Weekend Playlist: The Fifth of May

By |May 5th, 2012|Weekend Playlist|

cinco de mayoHappy Cinco de Mayo… Now before you strap on that sombrero, do you have any idea what Cinco de Mayo is all about?  No?  Hell, I don’t even know why we celebrate it.  I do know that I could live off of salsa and margaritas alone… but let’s pretend for a moment that there’s more to Cinco de Mayo than an excuse to drink Corona before noon:

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla).  The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War.  In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.  Contrary to widespread popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is actually celebrated on September 16.

Well then, seems that there is, in fact, quite a bit to celebrate… to which you will most definitely need something to shake your maracas to.

And if you find that the salt on the rim of your glass is not enough sustenance to get you through the fifth of May, you should go ahead and try whipping up these easy (and delicious) enchiladas.

besos,

The List Volume LXXII

By |May 4th, 2012|The List|

ichat puppiesThey say you’ve gotta take the good with the bad and I’d say that’s a pretty good rule of thumb.  After all, not everyone’s life can be candy coated kisses and sparkly sprinkles all the time… nor should it be a constant shit storm.  That’s where the intricate balancing act of life comes into play.  It’s not always easy, trust me, I know.  I’ve been a little negative lately.  Weird.  No, but seriously, I’ve been a real Sally Sad Sack and while I won’t completely deprive you of my weekly rant, I do fully intend on counterbalancing it with equal parts sunshine and kitty cats.

  1. The “gentleman” who sat next to me on my flight wearing a tank top (mank top?).  Fine, I get it.  I see I’m not gonna win the mank top battle, but please, for heaven’s sake, save it for the beach or the gym… or put on a cardigan??
  2. Coffee grounds at the bottom of your cup.  A perfectly good way to ruin a perfectly good cup o’ joe.
  3. Tanning beds… can I offer you a smoke as well? patricia krentcil
  4. Waking up with unidentified bruises… leaving me looking like I mighta had a rough night on the main stage.
  5. Living out of a suitcase.

  1. Living out of a suitcase.
  2. Having the best friends a girl could ask for.  Good enough to miss ’em when we’re apart and good enough that they still love me through my shit storms in hopes of the next rainbow.
  3. I’m late to the party, but this never gets old.
  4. A warm and freshly washed towel awaiting me after a shower.
  5. A bed full of dogs.

Seeing as it was easier to write the “good” than it was the “bad,” I think I’m well on the way to recovery… whatever that means.

Beauty Buzz: Best Kept Secret

By |May 3rd, 2012|Beauty Buzz|

kerastase cristallisteBack in March, I was fortunate enough to test out the new line from Kerastase called Cristalliste.  It’s been touted as the “best kept secret for long hair” and I’ve gotta say… they weren’t kidding.  That’s why I couldn’t possibly keep Cristalliste a secret for long.  While, I was open to sharing my latest haircare find, I do have some other secrets.  And don’t we all?

Kerastase Cristalliste is now available in salons and online but, I figured I’d give you pretty ladies a chance to divulge your best kept hair secrets for a chance to win some Cristalliste of your own.  But first, I will share my best kept hair secrets with you…  What kind of friend would I be otherwise?

Now that I’ve shown you mine, it’s time to show me yours.

The nitty gritty:  To enter, “like” Kerastase’s Facebook page and leave your best kept hair secret in the comments section of this blog post by Monday, May 14th 2012.  Please be sure to include your name and email address (so you can be notified).  Three winners will be chosen.  Sorry, contest is open to US residents only.

Time to show and tell!

Would You Wednesday: Sisterhood of the Traveling What?

By |May 2nd, 2012|Why Did or Why Don't?|

miss travelIt seems like there are dating sites for just about anything these days.  They have sites dedicated to everyone from Christians to Jews to those who are married.  If you’ve got a specific interest, there’s a site for it.  That is why it is no surprise at all that a new “dating site” called Miss Travel has popped up.  Basically, this site is for “attractive” women to get hooked up with “generous” travelers in search of travel companions.  Now, wealthy gentlemen looking for pretty young things is nothing new… hello, Millionaire Matchmaker??  And remember that whole “cash for class” college scheme?  I’m just wondering where exactly we draw the line?  There’s a very fine line between pay to play and possible prostitution.

I mean, I’m in need of a vacation pretty badly, but uh… I think I’ll keep saving my pennies til I can take myself.  So what do you think?  Would you try out Miss Travel?

Bon voyage!

Smart Is the New Pretty: Until Then

By |May 2nd, 2012|Smart Is the New Pretty|

taking a napSo sorry.  Took a little nap yesterday.  Okay, maybe just a drive down south to Boca.  Either way, it did inhibit my blogging capabilities.  The iPhone can do a lot of things, but posting on WordPress via my phone, is a bit tricky.  Luckily, I’m here to catch you up on the latest and greatest in what’s happening in the world outside of your cubicle.

Until next time.
