Friday Frocks: Tick Top You Don’t Stop

new years toastI both love and loathe New Years Eve.  I love it for the symbol of rebirth and chance to recreate yourself and your life, but more superficially, I also love it for the obvious reason: the chance to get completely decked out and dance the night away.  My qualms come in the form of the anticlimactic kisses, lack of cabs, and overcrowded clubs.  To be honest, the past two years I’ve spent December 31st with people who mean more to me than random drunk frat boys in cashmere vests over plaid button downs from J. Crew.  While my plans were less than star studded, that didn’t stop me from dressing up.  I typically shy away from anything too shiny, but these dresses have just enough shimmer to have you ringing in the New Year without being mistaken as the disco ball at that dirty nightclub.

Friday Frocks: Festive not Floozy

holiday red dressesNothing makes a statement like a red dress.  Just make sure the red dress you’re wearing is making the right statement.  You want your holiday frock to say “festive” not “floozy.”  No one wants to be the drunk girl falling out of her LRD (little red dress) post Santa-con Firieball shots complete with felt Santa hat.  Instead, embrace the colors or the season, bright crimson, deep green, and a touch of metallics to land yourself a spot right under the mistletoe.

Friday Frocks: Cheers To That

champagne toastThere’s lot to celebrate this time of year besides having just celebrated WhyDid.com’s sixth year of publishing as was made painfully clear this afternoon as our email chain grew longer and longer in an attempt to get all of our favorite girls together for a holiday party.  Every time we thought we’d locked down a day to congregate over cooking and cocktails, someone would pipe in with regrets over having obligations to another engagement.  We still haven’t quite nailed down a date for our holiday festivities, but in the meantime, I did nail down some festive frocks to get you through this season’s holiday party.  Cheers!

Friday Frocks: Sweater Weather

fall sweater dressBeing someone who typically favors skin grazing frocks and tops only slightly larger than sportsbras, it may come as quite a surprise that one of my favorite parts of cooler weather has absolutely nothing to do with pumpkin spice anything and a whole lot to do with slipping into a cozy, cuddly, oftentimes oversized sweater dress.

This is not the first time I’ve dedicated a Friday Frocks to sweater dressing and I can promise you, as it’s only mid-September, it won’t be the last.  Knit dresses are the perfect way to transition from chilly fall days to frosty winter evenings.  When the thermostat starts to head below 60, wear your knitwear with over the knee boots and toss on a leather jacket.  As the biting temperatures of winter arrive, layer your frock over patterned tights or a pair of complementary knit leggings (another really big trend for fall).  I may be the only one, but all I want to do is hug myself when wearing a soft cashmere sweater and fortunately, I’m quite flexible, so it’s entirely doable.  But seriously, if you see me in the street wearing a sweater dress, hugs are welcome.
