Weekend Playlist: Let’s Work It Out

By |July 26th, 2014|Weekend Playlist|

runner stretch vie sportForget Kanye, this is Kiki’s workout plan.

In conjunction with twice weekly Pilates at Flex Studios and as many times as I can get there yoga at Strala, I run.  I run as much as my little feet can handle.  That’s why they look like a spend my free time dancing on hot coals.  When I’m not running along the Westside Highway (due to inclement weather), I take it to the treadmill for interval training.  This started as a trainer’s written instructions and as it got too easy, I modified it to work for me (so, feel free to do so for yourself).

  • 5 minutes at 5.5
  • 1 minute 7.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.0
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.0
  • 1 minute 8.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 9.0
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 9.0
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.0
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.0
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 7.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 5 minutes 4.0

I do all of this on a 1% incline and I get through it only with the thought of thinner thighs and a good playlist.  I’ve created a few for you before (here, here, and here) and this is what I’m currently burning rubber to.

Weekend Playlist: Let It Burn

By |February 9th, 2014|Weekend Playlist|

running legsYou know the hardest part about going to the gym? Going to the gym. It’s amazing all the tiny tasks that I’ve neglected doing up until it’s time to make my way to the treadmill. Oh that stack of magazines I’ve yet to read? They must be sorted through before I could possibly go to the gym. All that paper has gotta be a fire hazard. I probably should clean out the fridge too.

However, once I’m actually at the gym or have just completed a thorough sweat session, I’m more than happy I went. Even happier when my pants aren’t sausage wrappers. It’s like my dad says, “What do exercise and hitting yourself in the head with a hammer have in common? They both feel good when you stop.” One great way to get you through the burn is a playlist that tricks you into believing you’re bumping elbows with Beyoncé, not the meathead bro-ing out with barbells. I’ve shared my running playlist before and Jenn was kind enough to bestow us with a few of her favorites, but much like your workout routine- it’s always good to switch things up. Here’s what I’m currently feeling the burn and burning the calories to:

Sweat looks good on you.

Weekend Playlist: 2013, We Out.

By |December 28th, 2013|Weekend Playlist|

miley cyrus destinys child nsync2013 was a very interesting (by interesting I mean coma inducing) year when it came to music in my humble opinion.  I am not, nor have I ever claimed to be a music expert, but if even I was bored, I can only imagine how audio afficianados must have felt.  All genres started to blend together just as the days of the week started to blend together for me.  Is it Tuesday night or Saturday morning?  Who cares?  A little Drake whining about his leftover Chinese food followed up with some Miley Cyrus soft porn will alleviate any confusion.  Just stick out your tongue, grab a leotard, and start twerking- you’ve got 2013 music covered.  It’s like Now That’s What I Call Music: 9 Billion.  Listen to this playlist til 2014, then let’s bury these songs like a time capsule not to be revisited until another decade has passed.

Werk, bitch.

Weekend Playlist: I’m Festive, Ok?

By |December 21st, 2013|Weekend Playlist|

dr seuss the grinchIt should not be news to you by now that I do not enjoy Christmas music.  I just don’t, alright?  You think that makes me a Scrooge?  Well, I also despise ugly Christmas sweater parties, Secret Santas, and candy canes.  I’m a horrible human being, I know.  Shock of all shocks, I have a hard time stomaching any and all things that have been universally commercialized.  I’m not completely heartless though.  I do like some of the things that surround Christmas, like spending time with your family and loved ones, festive cocktails, and mistltoe.  Big fan of mistletoe.

But because I know that many (okay, most) of you do love all things Christmas and are more likely than not in the midst of sucking down a candy cane embellished cup of eggnog wearing hideous holiday knitwear just itching to deck the halls to some Christmas carols, I’ve put together a mix of the poppiest Christmas songs on the planet.  Because if we’re going down this route, let’s go big, loud, and cheesy.  While some of you prefer the classics, nothing says holiday cheer like Silent Night sung by Boyz II Men.

Weekend Playlist: Soul Sisters

By |November 24th, 2013|Weekend Playlist|

90s hip hop rbTonight we’ll watch the American Music Awards (AMA’s) or at least I will so you can be briefed on the fashion f#ckery that graced the red carpet tomorrow morning while you sip your espresso.  I can only imagine what may happen on the mainstage this evening but am willing to bet there will be twerking, lip synching, and a lot of bad Miley Cyrus jokes.  If you’d prefer to listen to some quality music and leave the reporting to me, I’ve got exactly what the doctor ordered. Whether you are in the midst of some major relationship bullshit, or just want to end your weekend /start your week of with a bang, I’ve compiled some of the songs mentioned in my post yesterday that’ll have you feeling as bold as Beyonce.
