Would You Wednesday: Give Me a Ring

By |January 26th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

It’s no secret that Jennifer Love Hewitt is A) a little bit loopy and B) hasn’t had the best luck in the dating department.  So, it comes as no surprise that she created quite a bit of buzz in a recent interview.  When she appeared on the Ellen Degeneres Show, she revealed that she’s got three different rings at Tiffany’s all picked out for her future betrothed.

Now, in reality, most young ladies all have a certain ring in mind when they think about the “big question” being popped.  So, there is certainly a chance that we may have left subtle hints lying around or have pointed out a ring we like on someone else’s finger.  Some of us may have even delegated a close friend (with good taste) as the “go to” gal if your beau should have any questions or need guidance.  I think all of that is normal.

However, the way Ms. Hewitt approached the topic was totally tacky and what sparked all the buzz.  Picking her rings from Tiffany’s was her first rookie mistake in my humble opinion.  I mean, could you be any more predictable and dull?  Probs not.  The real issue lies within her comments about not wanting to be “disappointed” with her ring.  Did we not already cover this? Yo, Jen Love?   Perhaps if you spent more time picking out a stellar stud, you could spend less time worrying about a gemological dud.

So, is it wrong to make a finger bling wish list? Or is it just plain tacky?

well, good luck, JLove.

Would You Wednesday: Skeggings

By |January 26th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

I mean, first came leggings, then came jeggings, then majeggings, all leading up to the ingenious “pajama jeans.”  (To be clear: NONE of these are pants). Now there’s apparently a little somethin’ somethin’ from the fine folks at HUE being made available to you called “skeggings.” (Anyone else thinking the name could possibly have been derived from skank + leggings?).

I’m sort of torn on these “skeggings.”  While they are absolutely hideous (the way they are styled in this photo make me want to just end it) at least your vdot will be covered. I mean, it seems that some people will just never learn that leggings are not, nor will they ever be, pants. So, while these skirted leggings are sort of ridiculous, maybe they are doing more good than harm?

Why Did You Wear That: White Hot

By |January 25th, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

The weather outside is frightful (unless you live in Los Angeles), but there’s no need to stay curled up inside like a hermit or flip your shit like the abominable snowman.  Take a note from some very stylish celebs.  Wearing white after Labor Day is no longer a fashion faux pas.  Some of the sexiest starlets have been sporting winter white on all of the hottest red carpets.

So, before you reserve yourself to alpaca and shearling for the rest of the winter months, why not try out this winter’s most fiercely feminine color?  Be sure to pick something in a heavier (winter weight) fabric.  If you live somewhere especially frigid, look for long sleeves and pair your look with opaque or patterned tights.  For footwear? Add a dash of color or something shiny!

Top (L to R): Alexander Wang Ribbed Tank Dress, $545, Halston Heritage Short Dress, $490, Milly Sleeveless Jewel Neck Dress, $355, Reiss Nanette Zip Frill Dress, $310

Bottom (L to R): Indah Macrame Back Mini Dress, $154, Acne Dolphin Draped Silk Wrap Dress, $660, Lauren by Ralph Lauren Carrie Boatneck Dress, $129, Religion 3/4 Length Dress, $98

Frosty!

Monday Mashup: Oh me, Oh my, Oh Pumpkin Pie.

By |January 25th, 2011|Monday Mashup|

I can not lie.  I love to watch The Bachelor.  Something about watching fifteen crazy women compete for the love of one (somewhat crazy) man is a recipe for sheer entertainment.  Call me a sociologist, but I love watching human interaction… especially that of the cray cray kind.  I remember thinking that sweet, sweet Emily (a children’s hospital event planner- WTF??!! – from Charlotte, North Carolina) was a force to be reckoned with… until tonight.  I’m not sure what the hell is happening in that bachelorette (hen) house, but something bad happened.  Week by week, the girls get drunker, crazier, and somehow oranger.  Perhaps they should check the vents? Maybe even check where the closest power plant is located cause something ain’t right.  Maybe I need to fix the settings on my TV, but I think Brad may want to invest in some protective radioactive clothing.

It’s the final rose. Who should get it?

Ladies, if you did not receive a rose, please take a moment and say “goodbye.”

Why Did You Eat That: Pure Bliss

By |January 24th, 2011|Los Angeles, Why Did You Eat That?|

Yes, birthdays should last longer than just a day. I mean we’ve spent the last 364 building up to just one day?  Why not go ahead and spread one’s birthday out over a few days… a week perhaps?  Well, thanks to some super spoiling, that’s exactly what I did.  After spending the day getting royally pampered at bliss, I was whisked off to an “overnight adventure”- location TBA.

It was a beautiful night and we drove with the windows down until we reached Malibu where we turned into the Malibu Beach Inn.  Sheer bliss ensued (for the second time that day).

After checking in and settling in our cozy but well appointed room, we cranked up the fireplace and spent some time out on the balcony which overlooks the ocean.  I couldn’t believe that it was the middle of January, yet here I was at the beach.  I mean, I know I haven’t been 100% sold on Los Angeles just yet, but this weather certainly does make a strong argument.

Dinner was just downstairs at the hotel’s restaurant, Carbon Beach Club.  There is both indoor and outdoor seating, though I can’t really imagine who would want to sit inside when you could be dining almost literally on top of the ocean.  Call me crazy. Anyway, while the heaters and fire pit kept us warm, we began to order the spicy tuna tartar and caprese salad.  Both were very fresh and delicious. The spicy tuna tartar is a really different and original take on your run of the mill tartar.  For dinner we had the three cheese ravioli (um, you had me at ravioli) and the NY steak.  Again, both were insanely delicious and I had to stop myself from shoveling every last morsel of the ravioli into my mouth.  Clearly, I needed to leave room for dessert: cheesecake with fig and a lemon tart.  We left incredibly stuffed and happy. So stuffed that I conveniently slipped into a food coma while listening to the crashing waves.

I also awoke to the sound of crashing waves.  And then it was time for brunch.  Back downstairs we went.  Brunch was also a delight.  Huevos rancheros and prosciutto sandwiches are the best way to start your Sunday.  Oh- a delicious bloody Mary never hurt anyone either.  I really would have stayed there forever, but alas… it was time to depart and return to reality.  Goodbye Malibu Beach Inn… goodbye birthday week.

I will leave my bags packed until next time:

(L to R): Fluxus Nomad Scarf, $48, Bear Creek Weekender, $498, Madewell Mae Open Drape Jacket, $88, C & C Triblend Slim Jogger Pant, $26, Ray-Ban Metal Aviator, $129
