Would You Wednesday: Is White Alright?
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Poll,Would You Wednesday

Several brides have recently decked their wedding parties out in white (Kate, Kate, Kim). I’ve been a fan of this look for quite some time, but it seems to be shocking to some, however, this is nothing new in British culture. It is said that traditionally, the bridesmaids and other attendants wore white so as to “confuse” and ward off evil spirits. Alright, well, that’s a little ridiculous, but there’s no denying it– an all white wedding party looks incredibly fresh and chic. So what about your wedding guests?

When the first wedding photos from Kim’s wedding emerged, there was much buzz regarding Lindsay Lohan in a sexy white Jenny Packham gown. I thought to myself, “Go figure. It’s Lindsay Lohan.” Thankfully, it was soon released that said wedding had a “black and white” dress code, so Lindsay wasn’t being her typically sloppy self. Phew! There’s one thing Kim K and I can agree on. I love a good dress code. That’s all we’ve got though. Anyway, what I am really wondering about is whether or not you think wearing white to a wedding other than your own is a major fashion faux pas. Thoughts?

Here comes the bridesmaid!

Beauty Buzz: Big Bang Theory
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Beauty Buzz

The bangs this season are serious.  Designers like Twinkle by Wenlan (shown above) and Mulberry showed their collections styled with blunt bangs.  If you’re going to try out bangs, you’re going to need to commit.  They are thick, heavy, and blunt.  These bangs are not for the faint of heart.  In. It. To. Win. It. Think Anna Karina:

Bangs are a great way to change up your look without the permanence of color or full on cut.  Many a celeb has tested out this trend herself:

Maybe you’ll love them, maybe you’ll hate them, but they’ll grow out in a couple of months!  And luckily, side pinned bangs are another one of springs hottest trends.

You’re banging, baby.

Why Did You Wear That: I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Preen
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Why Did You Wear That?

So you have a hot date? A big event? You want something to make heads turn all the while looking effortlessly chic? Oh, this ol’ thing? Enter Preen by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi.

Started ten years ago by the design duo, Preen has collected quite the celeb following including Kate Moss, Chloe Sevigny, and Thandie Newton. It is easy to see why. Take a look at some of my favorite pieces from their Spring 2010 collection:

00010m

00160m

00240m

00250m

00280m

00310m
00340m

00390m

I remember when Henri Bendel first started carrying this line over two years ago (when they still carried apparel). It was so incredibly sexy and chic without being blatant or cheesy. It was the ultimate alternative for cool girls who were sick of the oversaturated Hever Leger bandage dress. I was immediately smitten.

10029174_120724_800Pleat Tulip Dress, $1,106

01234F108008_1_2One Shoulder Sheath Dress, $1,089

64452_in_lPower Knitted Lace Dress, $1,375

Friends often ask me for suggestions about what to wear when dressing to impress and I would say, if you want to look less Kim (Kardashian) and more Kate (Moss), go grab something Preen and wait for the boys to scream (had to).

Sigh… now if only I had a red carpet to walk…

Why Did You Wear That: High and Dry
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Why Did You Wear That?

Since it’s a miserable rainy day in New York today, I thought I’d dedicate this one to celebs and their rain boots.  Perhaps you don’t feel your chicest when strapping on your wellies, but after seeing some seriously stylish ladies parading around in theirs maybe you’ll change your mind. Hey, better than destroying your new suede OTK boots.

kate

I believe Kate Moss was the first to make rain boots chic. Because that’s what Kate Moss does.

Gwyneth Paltrow in some serious lace up rain boots.

EXCLUSIVE: Hilary Duff Loves Vancouver! (And her mom!)

Hilary Duff with mom in Burberry rain boots.

Sarah Michelle Gellar in Hunter boots.

Nicole Richie in Hunter boots.

Ashley Olsen in Jimmy Choo for Hunter rain boots. (Does she know it’s kind of an oxymoron to be wearing sunglasses at the same time as rainboots?)

Last spring I wrote a little ditty on the Do’s and Don’ts of rainboots. Please review and stay dry!

America’s Next Top Midget
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Uncategorized

index-midget-lg

Seriously, Tyra?  You’ve gone too far this time.  Cycle 13 of America’s Next Top Model (slated to premiere tonight) is dedicated to “models” who are 5’7 and under.  Yeah, that’s right.  Anyone over 5’7 who showed up to the auditions was turned away.

Basically, the show has given in to the fact that it’s a total joke.  While I have tuned in to several seasons from start to finish (it is good entertainment, after all) none of the winners or contestants have ever gone on to have legitimate modeling careers.  The only posing they are doing is on the banquettes of NY nightclubs.

Maybe producers decided that tall girls were no longer interesting.  After the casting fiasco for the shorty showdown, perhaps they are on to something.  Either that or maybe the tall girls realized this was not the way to go about getting signed to an agency and a kiss of death to their career.

Being a lofty 5’7, myself, I just find the whole concept silly.  I did the obligatory stint in modeling that most girls go through after arriving in Manhattan, but soon realized I was a good two inches too short and 5 years too late.  Granted Kate Moss is only 5’7, but she makes up for her lack of height in sheer badassness (not sure that’s a word, but we’re talking about Kate here). I would assume the real working models of the world think of this as a kind of insult? Either way, I will probably still tune in and watch Tyra talk about herself and teach the girls how to “smile with their eyes.”  Good reality TV is hard to find.
