Why Did You Wear That: Christina Aguilera

By |November 19th, 2010|Celebrity Style|

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love Christina Aguilera. I have loved that woman since the moment she popped out of her genie bottle back in 1999! I was Team Christina through and through. She could do no wrong in my book. Not even when she decided to get a bit “dirrty.”

So, it pains me more than you can imagine to have to ask, “What the HELL happened to her?” I know that Xtina has been going through some rough times in her personal life, but didn’t she get the memo? Looking GOOD is the best revenge. And while her love life may be sucking, her career is still on fi-yah. She is set to star in Burlesque and she just got her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Needless to say, that’s a lot of red carpet appearances. Well, lately, she looks like my dog has been styling her… with his tongue (although that’s an insult to my dog).

How can such a pretty girl let herself look like this? Did Jordan Bratman take all the mirrors with him in the split?

The premiere of Burlesque should have been her time to shine…. however, she looks like a big green head of lettuce. Sad lettuce. She would have been better off pulling from the costume department like Cher.

Ugh. Christina… COME ON! Pull. It. Together.

Let’s just take a stroll down memory lane…

Despite everything, you bet your ass I will be in line to see Burlesque on November 24th.

The List Volume XXVIII

By |November 19th, 2010|The List|

Seeing as Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I do spend quite a bit of time bitching about things sucking, I figured I would make a list of things that I am incredibly thankful for. Here are ten (in mostly no particular order) of the many things I have to be thankful for:

  1. This guy. I do not know how I would function every day without him.
  2. My incredibly wonderful and supportive family… though now I’ve noticed we are long overdue for a family portrait.
  3. Prosecco.
  4. Living in a country where I can say, do, or wear anything I want all while turning on a faucet for clean water.
  5. Having some of the world’s best friends (who don’t mind a theme).
  6. Having had the opportunity to live in one of the best cities in the world (NY, obvi). The experiences are irreplaceable.
  7. Love. Real, true, pure, magical love.
  8. Thongs. No, I’m serious. Can you imagine a lifetime of VPL (visible panty lines)?
  9. Technology: cell phones, computers, TV’s, the INTERNET! How else would you be able to keep up with WhyDid?
  10. Most importantly, everyone who is reading this. A bored at work hobby has turned into more than I ever could have imagined. Couldn’t do it without you.

Count your blessings!

Why Did You Date Him: Deal or No Deal?

By |November 19th, 2010|Why Did You Date Him?, WhyDid Wisdom|

Recently, a male friend was filling me in on the details of his current romantic situation and he mentioned that his lady love had dished up an ultimatum. Yikes! All had been going well- or so he thought- until she let him know that it was her way or the highway.

While he was a bit caught off guard by what she’d said, I knew precisely what she was up to. Women often like to throw out a good ol’ fashion ultimatum in hopes that it will scare the pants off her man and secure her role in the relationship.

I mean, I don’t want to play Captain Obvious here, but your dating life is not a gameshow, ladies.  Trying to pull trickery on your man isn’t going to get you any closer to the Showcase Showdown and I can pretty much guarantee it’s not going to land you a briefcase full of a million dollars

I have a bit of a flair for the dramatic, so, I, too am guilty of pulling this little move.  My mom warned me once to make very certain I MEANT what I was saying before saying it.  There’s no point to an empty threat. There’s a reason I had moving boxes stacked in my old apartment three months before actually moving out.

When giving an ultimatum, there are several possible outcomes. So, go ahead and brace yourself for one of the following:

  • Your mate will call your bluff.  This is when you better be ready to pony up and face the consequences of your words.
  • Your mate will no longer take you seriously. Ever hear of The Boy Who Cried Wolf? Overuse empty threats too often and eventually you will not be taken seriously. Your words are now watered down and have zero credibility.
  • It will work. Temporarily. When you have to “force” someone to do something it isn’t natural and will eventually implode . Yeah, sure, you got him to stay a few months longer because you threatened to kill yourself if he left, but really? He probably now a) thinks you’re bat shit crazy, and b) is plotting his exit strategy every time he looks at your crazy ass.

If you think threatening a man is going to get him to do what you want, you’re sorely mistaken. The fastest way to get a man to run for the hills is by trying to paint him into a corner. Feel free to go ahead and spin the wheel of love, but I can’t promise it won’t land on “bankrupt.”

Beauty Buzz: Zap that Zit

By |November 18th, 2010|Beauty Buzz|

Ugh. There is nothing more embarrassing than a huge red pulsating pimple on your pretty face. A nasty zit can ruin anybody’s day (unless, of course you’re Rudolph and no one will notice). The first thing you probably feel like doing is going after your blemish like Saddam Hussein hiding in that hole. However, you need to resist the urge. Squeezing and squishing can lead to even more swelling and redness, not to mention, if popped improperly, you can actually push the infection further back into your skin. Ick.

Here are five home remedy quick fixes for zapping a zit:

  1. Before bed and after washing your face apply a dab of toothpaste (paste, not gel) on the problem area. Wash off the next morning and notice the pimple’s diminished size.
  2. After getting the gunk off your face, apply lemon juice with a cotton ball as a “toner” and then wash off. For more concentrated use, dab lemon juice on the pimple and leave over night.
  3. Crush up aspirin in a bowl, add a few drops of warm water and aloe vera or honey to create a paste. Apply to face and leave on for fifteen minutes before washing off.
  4. Wrap an ice cube in a washcloth and apply to the pimple for 20-30 seconds at a time. Repeat every so often to reduce the swelling and redness of the pimple.
  5. Applying honey to the problem area will kill the bacteria and clear up the skin. Leave on over night.

Hopefully, one of these handy remedies will rid you of that nasty mess. Remember, do not touch your pimple. The less you touch it, the better. Believe it or not, your hands are dirty! If all else fails, pick up a great concealer, like Makeup Forever HD Invisible Cover Concealer, $28.

Love Don’t Cost a Thing

By |November 17th, 2010|Gift Guide, Why Did You Date Him?, WhyDid Wisdom|

Speaking of engagements…

Love is a beautiful thing, but man, is it expensive!   A lot of guys say that they aren’t able to “pull the trigger” because they can’t afford the ring.I want to go ahead and call bullshit… except, of course, if the girl has an expected ring in mind. (One of the three carat caliber). When girls set crazy parameters on the type of ring they’re hoping for, they’re really just shooting themselves in the foot. That puts a huge amount of pressure on a guy and also probably makes him wonder whether you love him or his checkbook. If you want to get a great diamond ring go to Iturralde Diamonds.

If you really want to be with someone for the rest of your life, a ring should never be the thing to hold you back, nor should it be the only reason you want to marry someone. When a man really wants to be with you, he will find a way to put a ring on it in whatever way he is capable of, and he would get himself at JewelersTradeShop.com and ensure that she gets nothing but the best- and you should be flattered by whatever it is that he pledges his love to you with. He should be able to propose to you with a Ring Pop and you’d say, “YES!”.  Our society has started to focus on merely the carat size rather than the commitment level and that probably has a lot to do with the over 50% divorce rate.  I’d pick a guy with a pure heart over a stone with perfect clarity.

With that being said, why not pick out a beautiful ring that is as affordable as it is unique?  Here are several modern options (all under $2,500!):

3/4 Carat Garland Diamond Ring, $2,300

1 Carat Solitaire Princess Diamond Engagement Ring, $1,999.99
Tiffany Garden Flower Ring, $1,500

2 1/5 Carat Sapphire and Diamond Engagement Ring, $899
Cartier Entrelaces Pink Gold Ring, $850

3 3/4 Carat Black and White Diamond Ring, $708.99

1/2 Carat Black and White Diamond Engagement Ring, $595

1/4 Carat Diamond Antique Replica Ring, $274.99

After all, are you marrying the man or the ring?
