Love Don’t Cost a Thing

By |November 17th, 2010|Gift Guide, Why Did You Date Him?, WhyDid Wisdom|

Speaking of engagements…

Love is a beautiful thing, but man, is it expensive!   A lot of guys say that they aren’t able to “pull the trigger” because they can’t afford the ring.I want to go ahead and call bullshit… except, of course, if the girl has an expected ring in mind. (One of the three carat caliber). When girls set crazy parameters on the type of ring they’re hoping for, they’re really just shooting themselves in the foot. That puts a huge amount of pressure on a guy and also probably makes him wonder whether you love him or his checkbook. If you want to get a great diamond ring go to Iturralde Diamonds.

If you really want to be with someone for the rest of your life, a ring should never be the thing to hold you back, nor should it be the only reason you want to marry someone. When a man really wants to be with you, he will find a way to put a ring on it in whatever way he is capable of, and he would get himself at JewelersTradeShop.com and ensure that she gets nothing but the best- and you should be flattered by whatever it is that he pledges his love to you with. He should be able to propose to you with a Ring Pop and you’d say, “YES!”.  Our society has started to focus on merely the carat size rather than the commitment level and that probably has a lot to do with the over 50% divorce rate.  I’d pick a guy with a pure heart over a stone with perfect clarity.

With that being said, why not pick out a beautiful ring that is as affordable as it is unique?  Here are several modern options (all under $2,500!):

3/4 Carat Garland Diamond Ring, $2,300

1 Carat Solitaire Princess Diamond Engagement Ring, $1,999.99
Tiffany Garden Flower Ring, $1,500

2 1/5 Carat Sapphire and Diamond Engagement Ring, $899
Cartier Entrelaces Pink Gold Ring, $850

3 3/4 Carat Black and White Diamond Ring, $708.99

1/2 Carat Black and White Diamond Engagement Ring, $595

1/4 Carat Diamond Antique Replica Ring, $274.99

After all, are you marrying the man or the ring?

Would You Wednesday: 1 + 1 = Ew?

By |November 17th, 2010|Why Did or Why Don't?|

It all looks fine from here, no? Pretty Leighton Meester. Pretty, pretty girl. Stepping out in Marchesa for the Court of Jewels Recreation launch at Harry Winston. What on earth could go wrong?

Oh… here’s what. How can two things I love so much go so wrong when put together? Leighton + Romper should = YAY!!! Instead Leighton + Romper = Ew. It appears that the lining for the romper is invisible. Hence, I can see lovely Leighton’s naughty knickers. I think i would love this if it were not, I don’t know… see through. What do you think?

Why Did You Eat That: Like a Ninja

By |November 15th, 2010|New York, Why Did You Eat That?|

We had company who’d never been to Los Angeles in town this weekend and wanted to take him somewhere “sceney” without delving into the depths of hell that is Katsuya Hollywood.  To get some great sushi while still catching a little bit of the LA glitz, we headed to West Hollywood’s Katana.

After taking the elevator upstairs to the restaurant, we were greeted by a beautiful hostess and taken through the crowded restaurant full of pretty people. It was a Friday night, so there were lots of single girls and guys as well as cozy couples out for date night. After being seated our waiter came by and suggested a great cold sake for the table. We perused the menu and cheers’ed to our friend’s first west coast visit.

We ordered an array of different things for the table and some of the stand outs were crab dynamite roll, aspara niu maki (filet mignon wrapped asparagus with soy mirlin sauce), tori gyuza (chicken pot stickers with cilantro ponzu, and, of course, the Katana roll.

We felt we did a job well done seeing as our visitor was happily stuffed, tipsy, and impressed with the Los Angeles scenery. So, the only thing left to do was roll out in our Bentley to Soho House.

Monday Mashup: The Newlyweds

By |November 15th, 2010|Monday Mashup|

So, last week Nick Lachey popped the question to long time love, Vanessa Minnillo right before they both celebrated their birthdays in Mexico. Ah… young love. The news spread quickly and focused mostly on the fact that Jessica Simpson was probably eating her weight in Hagen Daas while having a mental breakdown. Then lo and behold… We find out that now Ms. Simpson is also ENGAGED! Not even a week later, Jessica was seen sporting a ring from boyfriend of six months, Eric Johnson. Um, coincidence?

I’m not going to harp on their short courtship (cause these things do happen -wink, wink), but I’m actually more concerned with the far too obvious (might I add tacky) timing. I mean, what are the chances that both Nick and Eric had been planning tandem proposals? Slim to none. Methinks Ms. Simpson lost her shit and poor Eric feared for his life. The only way to tame the shrew? Put a ring on it. I feel halfway sorry for Eric while the other half feels like he’s a big pu$$y who knew he might be in jeopardy of losing his meal ticket (and we know Jessica never misses a meal). I smell foul play… or is that the smell of desperation?

So, who got the better bling? Eric popped the question to Jessica with a ruby ring flanked by diamonds from Neil Lane, while Vanessa was proposed to by Nick with an ascher cut diamond from jewelry designer  Bader and Garin.
