Setting the Mood: Greyscale

By |October 3rd, 2011|Setting the Mood|

It’s not true what they say.  It does rain in California.  Especially, Northern California.  Today it has rained all day.  I can’t lie though.  Rain is sometimes a welcome change.  The whole cheerful kingdom thing can get old and makes me long for a little grey weather.  A little reality.  I enjoy the rain so much that I actually waited to go for a run until it started raining.  A neighbor stopped me cause he was worried about my well being, but I let him know that I was enjoying the downpour.  I know.  How very emo/hipster of me.  There’s just something refreshing about it.  You don’t have to feel guilty about holing up for the day and indulging in a book or comfort food.  That said… let’s hope the sun comes out tomorrow.

Why Did You Eat That: This Little Piggy

By |October 3rd, 2011|San Francisco (The Bay), Why Did You Eat That?|

While traipsing around San Francisco, running errands and popping into open houses (what? it’s okay to look), we managed to work up a little appetite.  So, we stopped in for brunch at The Tipsy Pig to grab a quick bite.  I have to say the name drew me in, but the menu is what got me to agree to stay.

To me, this place was like a grown up sports bar.  There were plenty of other restaurants and bars nearby that were filled with loud SF fans… and I really can’t be bothered with that.  The Tipsy Pig still had all the games on their several scattered TV’s, but I didn’t have to worry about a drunk  jersey clad fool falling into my breakfast.

Speaking of booze, I don’t drink beer, but I could be persuaded with the way they named their sizes: Piglet (10oz), Pint (15oz), and Tipsy Pig (20oz).  How cute is that? Oh, and apparently, they have a pretty extensive selection of beers for those of you who are interested.  Instead I opted for a Mary Pig (bloody Mary) and my dining compadre tested out the root beer float (an adult beverage version).  Both were delicious.

For our midday snack, we ordered the Pig’s Almost Famous Smoked Bacon Mac and Cheese (it was good… but I’ve had better) and the Pulled Pork Sloppy Joe to share.  I was pleasantly surprised with the pulled pork and for a great recipe to try at home, click here.

So what would be a great outfit for a day of strolling and shopping?  An outfit that won’t get you thrown out of an open house, but will still be comfortable when you curl up in a booth with a bloody Mary?  I love colored skinny corduroys and a snuggly sweater.  Throw a big fringe bag over your shoulder and wedge booties (still the height without the pain) and you’re good to go.

1. Polo Ralph Lauren Aberdare Sweater, $725, 2. Blank Skinny Corduroy Pants, $86, 3. Ember Skye Tote, $468, 4. Charlotte Russe Multi Sized Metallic Bangles, $4, 5. Elizabeth and James Manor Wedge Booties, $375

Everybody’s gettin’ tipsy.

Look for Less: Leather Weather

By |October 2nd, 2011|Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

So maybe you’re not the “skin”tight leather dress kinda girl.  That’s okay, cause you can still incorporate leather into your life in a more casual, less Catwoman way.  From Paris to LA, celebrities have been seen sporting their second skins all over town.  While the look is undoubtedly sexy, it can be expensive.  You can check this out blog for the best leather history related blog.  That’s why there are some great faux leather (or “vegan” as we’re calling it now- tomato, tomato) options out there.  This is one time when it’s okay to fake the funk.

1. Rachel Zoe Bianca Sequin Top, $275, 2. Top Shop Faux Leather Skinny Trousers, $66, 3. MICHAEL Michael Kors Sloan Oversized Clutch, $248, 4. Blu Bijoux Gold Tear Drop Multi Strand Earrings, $46, 5. La Fenice Eden Suede Platform Booties, $175

1. J. Crew Burnout Linen T-Shirt, $35, 2. Express (Minus the) Leather Seamed Mini Skirt, $59.90, 3. Forever21 Oval Sunglasses, $5.80, 4. Top Shop Mixed Fabric Chain Bag, $56, 5. Ash Hidden Platform Leather Pump, $195

1. Vince Hi Lo Sweater, $159.99, 2. Karl Lagerfeld for Impulse Skinny Faux Leather Pants, $99, 3. Cara Leather and Metal Cuff, $31.90, 4. Kelsi Dagger Teya Studded Platform Pumps, $149

P.S. Might I point out that both pairs of  “leather” pants on here are not leggings.  Please do not go strutting around town in pleather leggings without a top long enough to cover your v-dot.

Weekend Playlist: Hit Me Baby One More Time

By |October 1st, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

This week, let’s take a little walk down memory lane, shall we?  Remember all the songs that we loved so much, but then forgot they ever existed (kind of like butterfly clips and pleather)?  Great as they were, sadly, they were only one hit wonders.  As I scrolled through these songs, It occurred to me that I still love a lot of these songs.  It also occurred to me that some of you young little sprites have probably never even heard of them.  Man, I’m getting old.

  2. Willa Ford – I Wanna Be Bad
  3. Chumbawumba – Tubthumper

The List Volume LIV

By |September 30th, 2011|The List|

You know… I should probably list my afternoon as part of the list.  Cause apparently, my phone dying equates to then taking a nap… which, of course, negates any plans of working out… So I spent my evening eating pasta, M&M’s, and Sour Patch Kids (and, of course, washing it all down with wine). I’m disgusting and should be ashamed of myself.  But I’m not.

  1. Apple martinis.
  2. Spiral staircases.  Good in theory.  Bad in practice.
  3. Re-runs of House Hunters International.  How is it possible that I’ve seen them all?  Oh that’s right…
  4. Fake handwashers.  Why even bother putting in the effort to pretend?  At that rate you coulda just actually washed your hands!
  5. Ants.
  6. Skank stripe highlights.  Are we still doing that?  Pretty sure subtle is in.
  7. Mean Girls 2.  Did this really need to happen?
  8. Cottonelle toilet paper covers.  Isn’t this a modified version of the knitted covers your granny used to have?  And whatever happened to putting your TP under the sink?
  9. A bad facial.  A bad massage.  Any bad spa service, as a matter  of fact.  There is nothing more unfulfilling.
  10. Chris Brown.
Alright, well, it’s time for another handful of M&M’s.
