Weekend Playlist: G’s Up, Hoe Down

By |October 22nd, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

Last week, I was reminded how perfect country music is for this time of year.  I mean, what goes better with hayrides, bonfires, and warm festive beverages?  Here’s a hint… it’s not hip hop.  For years, I tried to deny my love for the country crooning of my West Virginia roots, but I just can’t help it.  I like a little dose from time to time.  Also, might I point out how attractive these hillbilly hotties are?  Ever see Carrie Underwood in a skirt?  Yowza!

Yee-haw!

The List Volume LVII

By |October 21st, 2011|The List|

What used to be a holiday for good ol’ wholesome trick or treating has morphed into one big lingerie party full of lots more tricks than there are treats.  Sadly, it seems that girls think as long as you throw the word “sexy” in front of another word, you’ve got a great Halloween costume.  Exhibit A: the f*cking “sexy skunk” costume above.  Hate to point out the obvious, but skunks smell and well, there’s really nothing sexy about that (sorry, Pepe Le Pew).  While I do admit that a sexy skunk is pretty creative, I’m kind of sick of the usual slutty suspects (sexy nurse, sexy cop, sexy pirate, sexy sailor, sexy bee, sexy etc.).  Now, I’d be a big fat (sexy) liar if I told you I hadn’t fallen victim to the whole sexy Halloween costume schtick.  I’ve been everything from a sexy football player to a sexy Veronica Corningstone (Anchorman).  Hey, at least I was creative.  I guess that’s my point, if you are gonna go “sexy” this year (and who are we kidding, you know you are), at least be creative.  So I’ve compiled a list of ten very un-sexy things that I dare you Halloween hoochies to make slutty.

  1. Sexy pencil.
  2. Sexy refrigerator.
  3. Sexy rhinoceros.
  4. Sexy ceiling fan.
  5. Sexy Rosie O’Donnell.
  6. Sexy garbage person.
  7. Sexy sledgehammer.
  8. Sexy toilet.
  9. Sexy peanut butter.
  10. Sexy mulch.

Please, please, please (I beg of you) take photos if you do, in fact, use one of these ideas.

Friday Frocks: Witchy Woman

By |October 21st, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

It’s that time of year again.  It’s always some time of year again though.  Anyway, the time of year I’m talking about is Halloween.  And while some of you may be crotch deep in slutty costumes, some of us are a little tired of plopping down 50 bucks for a pre-packaged costume the size of a dinner napkin from Ricky’s only to exile said costume to the far corners of our closets the day after fright night.  Luckily, there are quite a few frocks that can do double duty.  Not only are they spot on for Fall, they’d also make for very good witchy, vampy costumes with the right makeup and props.  Now to be clear, vampires just really aren’t my thing, but I’m not here to judge.  I’m in front of my TV every Monday night for Gossip Girl… so…

Anyway, wearing a black lace or deep red velvet frock with some snagged stockings, smokey eyes, and maroon lips would make for a very sultry, very sexy (not slutty) Halloween costume.  Pop some vampire teeth and fake blood in your clutch for added effect and you’ll be utterly bewitching.

1. Camilla and Marc Courtesy Frock, $492, 2. Plastic Island Gatsby Lace Dress, $180, 3. Rebecca Minkoff Frida Lace Dress, $428, 4. The Battalion Marion Lace Maxi, $99, 5. Insight Rouched and Ready Dress, $66, 6. Free People Floral Lace Fit and Flare Dress, $128, 7. One Teaspoon Sweet Lace Mini Dress, $108,8. Theyskens’ Theory Knock Yara Sweater Dress, $395, 9. Forever 21 Lace Peplum Dress, $19.84, 10. Free People Bell Sleeve Lace Trim Tunic, $183.33

The best part about a freaky frock?   If you happened to have a slumber party with your very own Edward Cullen, you simply must wash your face to make the walk of shame home at the break of dawn.

Would You Wednesday: Color Me Beautiful

By |October 19th, 2011|Beauty Buzz, Why Did or Why Don't?|

Lately, A-List ladies have been trading in conventionally colored coifs for wild shades that you’d normally only see on Rainbow Brite and My Little Pony.  Two of the latest to try this trend on their tresses are Katy Perry (who has gone through several shades of pink) and Lauren Conrad (with a pale ombre peach).  While they’ve been making a splash with their colorful new ‘do’s, they aren’t the first to go  ROYGBIV on us.

Oh yes, it seems that celebrities have run the gamut on high impact hairdo’s.  But what I really want to know is whether or not this hairdo is actually a hairDON’T.  I’m all for self expression and trying out the newest in beauty… but looking like a Skittle probably isn’t in the cards for me.  I don’t think my hairbrush wants to taste the rainbow.  Call me a traditionalist, but I think I’ll stick to haircolors commonly occurring in nature.  What do you think?

Now I’m craving Starburst. Great.

Smart is the New Pretty: Let’s Socialize

By |October 19th, 2011|Smart Is the New Pretty|

As women, we are known to be very social creatures.  So, when the buzz word  “social media” started popping up everywhere (and is even now considered a “career”), we thought to ourselves, “Psssh!  We’ve been doing this for years.”  While there are plenty of folks out there who consider themselves to be gurus, experts and mavens in the venue of Marketing/PR 2.0, most of them haven’t a clue as to what they’re talking about.  So, if you’re looking to increase your social presence, it’s probably best not to leave it to the “experts” and start learning yourself!  Social Media is constantly changing so you better keep up!

Now go fire up your Tumblr, Twitter, and Flickr.  It’s time to get social… and while you’re at it, be sure to Tweet, FB, and YouTube with WhyDid.
