Weekend Playlist: Let’s Work It Out

By |July 26th, 2014|Weekend Playlist|

runner stretch vie sportForget Kanye, this is Kiki’s workout plan.

In conjunction with twice weekly Pilates at Flex Studios and as many times as I can get there yoga at Strala, I run.  I run as much as my little feet can handle.  That’s why they look like a spend my free time dancing on hot coals.  When I’m not running along the Westside Highway (due to inclement weather), I take it to the treadmill for interval training.  This started as a trainer’s written instructions and as it got too easy, I modified it to work for me (so, feel free to do so for yourself).

  • 5 minutes at 5.5
  • 1 minute 7.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.0
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.0
  • 1 minute 8.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 9.0
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 9.0
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.0
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 8.0
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 1 minute 7.5
  • 1 minute 5.5
  • 5 minutes 4.0

I do all of this on a 1% incline and I get through it only with the thought of thinner thighs and a good playlist.  I’ve created a few for you before (here, here, and here) and this is what I’m currently burning rubber to.

Weekend Playlist: Let It Burn

By |February 9th, 2014|Weekend Playlist|

running legsYou know the hardest part about going to the gym? Going to the gym. It’s amazing all the tiny tasks that I’ve neglected doing up until it’s time to make my way to the treadmill. Oh that stack of magazines I’ve yet to read? They must be sorted through before I could possibly go to the gym. All that paper has gotta be a fire hazard. I probably should clean out the fridge too.

However, once I’m actually at the gym or have just completed a thorough sweat session, I’m more than happy I went. Even happier when my pants aren’t sausage wrappers. It’s like my dad says, “What do exercise and hitting yourself in the head with a hammer have in common? They both feel good when you stop.” One great way to get you through the burn is a playlist that tricks you into believing you’re bumping elbows with Beyoncé, not the meathead bro-ing out with barbells. I’ve shared my running playlist before and Jenn was kind enough to bestow us with a few of her favorites, but much like your workout routine- it’s always good to switch things up. Here’s what I’m currently feeling the burn and burning the calories to:

The List: Fifth Year Recap

By |December 6th, 2013|The List|

kirsten smith street styleLooking back over this past year’s posts, I thought a couple of things: 1. I don’t post nearly enough, 2. I can’t believe all of that happened in one year.  While at times it feels as if I’m not moving forward at all, taking a minute to look back (which every inspirational quote on Instagram would tell you not to do- I’m a rebel), I can see that even though it may be at a snail’s pace, I have certainly been chugging along through this thing called life.  My self awareness will now beseech me to make some changes to how I’ve been handling a few things, but I must take a not so modest moment to grin with pride about what I have accomplished by revisiting a few of my favorite posts from this blog year.  I hope you enjoy… and what were some of your favorites?

  1. Why Did You Wear That: Little in the Middle
  2. WhyDid Wisdom: I Don’t.
  3. Setting the Mood: Goth Goes Glam
  4. Why Did You Wear That: Fall Overhaul
  5. WhyDid Wisdom: Standards, Get Some.
  6. Weekend Playlist: Guest DJ, Jenn Seracuse
  7. Friday Frocks: You’re My Babydoll
  8. Why Did You Wear That: The Witching Hour
  9. WhyDid Wisdom: When Your Fixer Upper Becomes a Human Wrecking Ball

Weekend Playlist: Guest DJ, Jenn Seracuse

Not to toot my own horn (but, beep beep), I get asked quite a bit about what my workout routine is.  No, kids, I can’t lie and just say I sit around eating whatever I want.  Past the age of 25, I actually had to become conscience of my body and only wish I’d started sooner.  I run three to four times a week, but my real secret weapon for long, lean, toned arms and legs and a flat stomach is Pilates.  Specifically, Flex Studios.  Very specifically, Jenn Seracuse.

I’d tried out a few different Pilates studios in New York after getting hooked when I lived in LA.  One class with Jenn at Flex and I needn’t look any further.  Jenn’s class is fun and upbeat without being annoyingly cheerleader peppy (I was a cheerleader, chill).  Beginner’s or first timers don’t fret.  Jenn must have eyes in the back of her head because she’s able to keep tabs on everyone in class providing gentle corrections to ensure you’re getting the most out of the session without breaking anything except a sweat.  One of the best parts of Jenn’s classes are her playlists.  As I’m sure anyone who works out can attest, music can make or break whether you struggle or stride through those last ten minutes.  So, this week, Jenn was kind enough to put together a playlist especially for WhyDid.com.  I, for one, can not wait to slip on my sneakers and feel the burn while listening.

To be honest, I was little nervous to share my secret because I may find myself on the waiting list for class more than I’d like, but come sweat with Jenn and me and be sure to follow her on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

Weekened Playlist: From the Safety of your Couch-ella

By |April 13th, 2013|Weekend Playlist|

So you couldn’t get tickets, you couldn’t make the trek, you just couldn’t be bothered fighting the crowds.  Whatever the case may be, you’re not at Coachella this weekend.  Wah, wah. Doesn’t mean you can’t listen to the same music that’s pumping through the desert.  And lucky for you, you can listen to it from the safety of your couch, bypassing the Port-o-potties and pot.  So, get out your glowsticks, flower crowns, and PBR ’cause I’ve compiled a playlist of some of my favorite artists hitting the stage.
