Weekend Playlist: You Are My Obsession
Written by: WhyDid | Weekend Playlist

dancing on the table

I’ve talked before about needing the right music on while I’m working.  I can not have a TV on or someone talking to me when I’m trying to write, so it’s a very delicate balance as to what I can listen to.  It also depends what I’m working on. For instance, when I’m going deep and dark, I need something more moody.  For some less intense (but equally entertaining) writing, I need my playlist to be a bit more upbeat, but not bubble gum pop.  Again… very delicate balance.  If it’s too good, I’m liable to get up and dance on the coffee table, yet I’d still like to sway in my seat.  I created this playlist specifically for such occasion, but have not stopped listening to it since.

Sorry for the wonky playlist screenshot, but I couldn’t get my Spotify “play button” to work and will update for your listening pleasure as soon as I do.

Weekend Playlist: Make a Run For It
Written by: WhyDid | Weekend Playlist

ipod running playlistAfter a truly bullshitty day, a head clearing, sweat inducing run is one of the only things (other than a cool glass of wine) that helps me to unwind.  And rather than lay day on the Dr.’s couch and spill all my problems, I run.  Running is my therapy.  While it may not be as medically effective, it’s a lot cheaper.  Plus, when did you ever lose weight laying on a couch?

My highschool gym teacher is scoffing somewhere.  I did, afterall, convince her that crunches were only making my stomach bigger.  So, the thought of me exerting myself voluntarily is probably mind boggling.  I am well aware that 90% of the population would probably rather push a burning boulder of poo up a hill both ways before running… on purpose.  The hardest part of running is putting on your sneakers and hitting the pavement (or treadmill).  I certainly can’t make that part any easier, but a booty shaking playlist will most certainly help (and that I can do).

And yes, there is a little Bieber in the mix.  If that’s wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

xx,

WhyDid

Weekend Playlist: The Fifth of May
Written by: WhyDid | Weekend Playlist

cinco de mayoHappy Cinco de Mayo… Now before you strap on that sombrero, do you have any idea what Cinco de Mayo is all about?  No?  Hell, I don’t even know why we celebrate it.  I do know that I could live off of salsa and margaritas alone… but let’s pretend for a moment that there’s more to Cinco de Mayo than an excuse to drink Corona before noon:

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla).  The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War.  In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.  Contrary to widespread popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is actually celebrated on September 16.

Well then, seems that there is, in fact, quite a bit to celebrate… to which you will most definitely need something to shake your maracas to.

And if you find that the salt on the rim of your glass is not enough sustenance to get you through the fifth of May, you should go ahead and try whipping up these easy (and delicious) enchiladas.

besos,

WhyDid

Weekend Playlist: Get Down Tonight
Written by: WhyDid | Weekend Playlist

roller disco partyHere’s a question:  What better way to celebrate a birthday than with a 70′s disco roller skating party?  Answer: There is no better way.  My favorite guest DJ and all around crafty lady, Katie (aka the best friend a girl could ask for), is celebrating her golden birthday this weekend.  No, Kim, that’s nothing even remotely close to a golden shower.  A golden birthday is when you turn your age, say 22, on the day, the 22nd.  Get it?

So, while we are combing out our afros and stretching out our leotards, we’ll be getting in the mood with this 70′s inspired playlist.  And probably drinking a little prosecco too.

Send Katie a little birthday love while you’re at it.
