Weekend Playlist: They Say It’s Your Birthday…

By |January 19th, 2013|Weekend Playlist|

newborn babyOkay, we’ve got the dress, the accessories, and the party plans… and no party is complete without a perfect playlist.  Good thing you know me.  ‘Cause it just so happens I have a pretty sweet birthday party playlist… right here:

And you you can bet money that this is what we are listening to at this very second in time while sipping on some Kirs and applying falsies.

Weekend Playlist: I Love the 90’s…ish

By |January 12th, 2013|Weekend Playlist|

justin timberlake britney spears tlc destinys childSure, sure, Timberlake stole the headlines this week after “hinting” at the release of new music, but as giddy as that made us, let’s not forget all the other excitement happening for children of the 90’s.  I mean, Destiny’s Child reuniting for the Superbowl?  Britney Spears recording a new album?  A TLC reunion tour complete with hologram?

This is almost too much for me to handle.  It’s like Christmas came late this year.  To celebrate the return of the 90’s (and early 2000’s), I have compiled some of  the best early songs from our re-emerging artists.  I threw in a little Christina (because I love her) and Jessica Simpson (I know…) for good measure.  Do you have ANY idea what used to happen when “Genie in a Bottle” came on while I was cruising in my red Volkswagen Cabriolet?  It’s probably better that you don’t.

We’re ready.

Weekend Playlist: Party Like It’s 2013

By |December 30th, 2012|Weekend Playlist|

new years eve confettiSo, it’s Sunday… meaning this is technically the last bit of the “weekend,” but let’s be serious.  The stretch between Christmas and New Year’s is like one extended booze fueled, stay in your pajamas til 2pm and mom’s cooking weekend (not that that’s what I’m doing or anything).  Tomorrow is a little something called “New Year’s Eve” and the only thing more important than securing a midnight kiss and not running out of champagne is crafting the most perfect playlist.  The trick to a playlist is covering all your bases.  You don’t want to play what could be listened to on your local Top 40 station, but including a few “club bangers” so that white girls will be heard world round squealing to misogynistic rap lyrics is clutch.  Then you’ve got to toss in a few of those ironic throwbacks for all the “bruhs” to fist bump to when they recognize the intro.  Sprinkle a couple of classics in there to make grandma happy and you, my friend, have the ultimate party playlist.

Cheers, y’all.

Weekend Playlist: Scrooge You

By |December 23rd, 2012|Weekend Playlist|

rocking around the christmas treeOh, here’s a fun fact:  I do not like Christmas music.  Like, really don’t like it.  The reason behind my distaste for Christmas carols may stem from the fact that my sweet mother used to wake us up by  blasting seasonal songs through the intercom system to wake us up for school… or it could just be that having jolly jingles on repeat starting in October begins to wear a little thin by, oh, let’s say November?

Though I know I’m not totally alone in this, I do realize I’m a very small percentage of the population and since I’m not a total Scrooge, I’ve compiled a playlist that doesn’t completely make me want to chuck up my gingerbread.

I’m wondering why more rappers haven’t capitalized on the “Ho, ho, ho,” ya’ll.

Weekend Playlist: You Are My Obsession

By |July 21st, 2012|Weekend Playlist|

dancing on the table

I’ve talked before about needing the right music on while I’m working.  I can not have a TV on or someone talking to me when I’m trying to write, so it’s a very delicate balance as to what I can listen to.  It also depends what I’m working on. For instance, when I’m going deep and dark, I need something more moody.  For some less intense (but equally entertaining) writing, I need my playlist to be a bit more upbeat, but not bubble gum pop.  Again… very delicate balance.  If it’s too good, I’m liable to get up and dance on the coffee table, yet I’d still like to sway in my seat.  I created this playlist specifically for such occasion, but have not stopped listening to it since.

Sorry for the wonky playlist screenshot, but I couldn’t get my Spotify “play button” to work and will update for your listening pleasure as soon as I do.
