Why Did or Why Don’t: Overall Overhaul

By |July 17th, 2013|Celebrity Style, Why Did or Why Don't?|

As you may recall, I wasn’t particularly pleased when the whole “overalls” trend popped up this past fall.  It just seemed like such an unflattering and unladylike look for about, oh… 98.9% of the population.  But then something funny happened.

Trendsetting celebrities and stylish city girls put a positive spin on the formerly dowdy denim dungarees.  For some reason, I find the short version far less offensive than its full leg counterpart.   Dare I even call it cute?  So, I guess you could say my cold heart has melted… or it could just be this miserable mid-July heatwave, but you be the judge.

Setting the Mood: Crashing Coachella

By |April 10th, 2013|Setting the Mood|

Every year, music fans flock to the desert to listen to their favorite bands and just cut loose.  This music filled phenomenon is called Coachella.  Now, for me, being subjected to large smelly, sweaty, intoxicated crowds is my worst nightmare realized.  I have a hard enough time navigating public transit.  However, there are some of you who live for these types of Woodstock wet dreams, so you’re going to need to dress the part.  Basically, this is your chance to live out your hippie boho dreams.

A few tips:

  • The dirtier/more careless you look, the better.  AKA: no shower, no problem.
  • Never use Paris Hilton as a style reference even though she continuously attends.
  • Pants are apparently optional.
  • Just please put on some shoes.

To be clear, not much has changed from last year.

Why Did You Wear That: Cat’s Out of the Bag

By |August 5th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

vanessa hudgens leopard shortsRemember last week, when some lovely ladies schooled us in how to do leopard right?  Well, seems Vanessa Hudgens isn’t reading WhyDid.  What?!?!  Had she caught up on her reading, she surely wouldn’t have left the house– let alone allowed the paparazzi to catch her– wearing this little get up.  Now, I’m not trying to be catty (yes, pun intended) and typically I think V Hudge is a total glamour puss, but this is just  cat-astrophic (I’ll be here all week).  The shorts aren’t the most flattering shape for her figure, the boots only shorten her stems, and that cape (?) is just unnecessary.  Her hair looks great though.

Here kitty, kitty…

Why Did You Wear That: Put Me In, Coach

By |April 10th, 2012|Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

celebrity coachella fashionWith the arrival of summer comes the arrival of outdoor music festivals.  The first of which to kick things off is Coachella.  Coachella is not only one of the bigger music festivals, it’s one of the most photographed.  Let’s just say it’s a sartorialist’s wet dream.  The look is usually a bit boho meets Beverly Hills, but some have taken the hippy dippy look to extremes.  I can’t say I’ve ever had the desire to camp out for three days with no working plumbing, but if you happen to be someone who favors the port-o-potty over pate, then perhaps you’re headed out that way this weekend.  If that’s the case, you may be thinking, “What to wear?  What to wear?”  Well, I’ve come up with three looks that are sure to have you looking like you’re with the band.  (Just please do me a favor and keep your shoes on).

Would You Wednesday: Rockin’ Bobbin’

By |December 14th, 2011|Beauty Buzz, Why Did or Why Don't?|

Recently Katy Perry chopped her locks and lightened her heinous pink hue.  In my opinion, this is the look she should have gone with in the first place.  While I’m not into the whole Strawberry Shortcake haircolor trend, I do think that IF you are… this is the way to go about it.  It’s fun.  It’s subtle.  It’s something only a platinum selling pop star could pull off.  She looks kinda fab, right?

The bob was first made popular in the 1920’s by actresses Colleen Moore and Louise Brooks.  The cut was considered a bold statement of “independence” as girls in the West had historically all had long, quite coiffed tresses.  It became more accepted as women’s long hair interfered with their work during the World War.  The popularity of the bob was reignited once again in the 1960’s by Vidal Sassoon.  The look has stuck around since then in modified versions.

Many a stylish celebrity has shorn her long locks for a bolder, more blunt bob. From Rihanna, to Kate Bosworth, to Victoria Beckham… and even more famously Anna Wintour, these ladies have highlighted their striking facial features with this sleek cut.  So, would you trade in your long locks for a brazen bob?
