The List Volume 2012

By |December 30th, 2011|The List|

As the years go by, they seem to pass faster and faster.  I really can’t believe how quickly this year went by.  A good way to revisit and remember 2011 was by going back through all of WhyDid’s posts and choosing my favorites.  I figured it would be pretty easy cause I couldn’t have possibly written more than 12 posts that were awesome… but it proved much more difficult than anticipated.

Throughout the year, we uncovered trends, divulged our dating secrets, re-vamped our closets and poked fun at silly celebrities.  We covered everything from ombre hair to top knots to matzo ball soup to Lana Del Rey.  It was a busy year, yet somehow, some way, I was able to pick out twelve of my favorite posts from this year to ring in 2012.

  1. Do you have a case of the ex?
  2. Don’t you dare grasp for straws.
  3. Can you teach an old dog new tricks?
  4. Remember when you were 18?
  5. Love will come when you least expect it.
  6. How come you don’t do what you love?
  7. Friends come, friends go. Are you my BFFN?
  8. Sex and the City isn’t real life.
  9. Never forget it’s the thought that counts.
  10. Unless, of course, that thought only lasts for the next 72 days.
  11. And of course, I partied in party pants.

What were your favorite posts from 2011?

Look for Less: Brace Yourself for the Fall

By |September 11th, 2011|Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

Some of our very favorite celebrity fashionistas hit the tents this week to take in the shows at Lincoln Center.  While some were wearing their summer best til the bitter end, others debuted their new fall favorites.  I love seeing the ladies bracing themselves for the cooler temperatures.  To me, fashion week is like “back to school” for the fashion elite.  Though it may seem confusing (we’re seeing spring shows in the fall- and vice versa), this is second nature to fashion week veterans.  Below are some of my favorite fall looks from our stylish celebs:

1. Rebecca Beeson Smoke Cotton Modal T-Shirt, $29.24, 2. Anthropologie Cuffed Tweed Crops, $118, 3. BCBG Max Azria Black Ponte Cropped Blazer, $143, 4. Kors by Michael Kors Divina Lace Up Bootie, $250

1. J. Crew Silk Lucinda Blouse, $98, 2. REISS Katiya Anthracite Sequin Short, $245, 3. Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent Arizona Faux Fur Vest, $249, 4. Rachel Zoe Suede Platform Sandal, $295, 5. Lodis Audrey Envelope Clutch, $78

1. Wyatt Navy Chiffon V-Neck Pleated Blouse, $88, 2.  Motel Ginger Casual Tailored Shorts, $76.84, 3. Rebecca Minkoff Woven Infinity Clutch, $350, 4. Madewell Bandelier Blazer, $178, 5. Islo Isabella Lorussa Boot, $275

Why Did You Wear That: Party Pants

By |August 16th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

This is one of my all time favorite outfits and these sequin shorts may seem silly, but I’ve found them to be awfully versatile. This particular pair of party pants has made its way from the Standard in New York to the Chateau Marmont in LA and had a blast all along the way.

Since moving up north, all my “fun” clothes have been doing nothing but collecting dust. Needless to say, my sequin shorts haven’t seen the light of day. Sorry, kids, unless you love to wear North Face, Patagonia and J. Crew when you’re feeling jazzy, Northern California is not for you.  But just because I’m suffering doesn’t mean you need to be.

Ready to turn your pants into a party? Thought so:

1. Kill City Good Country Muscle Tee, $52, 2. Chan Luu Sequined Track Shorts, $148, 3. Rachel Roy Cross Charm Bracelet, $65, 4. Anya Hindmarch Sea Snake Valerie Clutch, $650, 5. Dolce Vita Madison Platform Pump, $165

Are sequin shorts the new LBD? No, probably not, but they are certainly a fun addition to any girl’s wardrobe.

Why Did You Wear That: Is That a Mirror in Your Pants…?

By |June 15th, 2010|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

party-in-my-pants-costumeYou know I like nothing more than a party in my pants, so it should come as no surprise that I’m a big fan of shiny pants.  We used to associate sequins with tragic prom dresses and Liza Minelli, but now sequins can be worn “just because.”  Dress down your sequins with a casual tee and heels and dance the night away. Why shouldn’t you be the life of the party?

You may wonder why I have not included a sequin top in my picks… it’s because they actually give me heartburn. I’m all about sequins in an unexpected pop, not as a blaring disco ball across your chest. You can have too much of a good thing.
