Would You Wednesday: Rockin’ Bobbin’

By |December 14th, 2011|Beauty Buzz, Why Did or Why Don't?|

Recently Katy Perry chopped her locks and lightened her heinous pink hue.  In my opinion, this is the look she should have gone with in the first place.  While I’m not into the whole Strawberry Shortcake haircolor trend, I do think that IF you are… this is the way to go about it.  It’s fun.  It’s subtle.  It’s something only a platinum selling pop star could pull off.  She looks kinda fab, right?

The bob was first made popular in the 1920’s by actresses Colleen Moore and Louise Brooks.  The cut was considered a bold statement of “independence” as girls in the West had historically all had long, quite coiffed tresses.  It became more accepted as women’s long hair interfered with their work during the World War.  The popularity of the bob was reignited once again in the 1960’s by Vidal Sassoon.  The look has stuck around since then in modified versions.

Many a stylish celebrity has shorn her long locks for a bolder, more blunt bob. From Rihanna, to Kate Bosworth, to Victoria Beckham… and even more famously Anna Wintour, these ladies have highlighted their striking facial features with this sleek cut.  So, would you trade in your long locks for a brazen bob?

The List Volume 8 Billion

By |August 5th, 2011|The List|

Alright, it probably isn’t eight billion, but I’ve written so many lists, I’ve lost count, so just go with it.  It’s been a while, but I’ve returned to the original “list” format… and don’t worry, you’re not on it.

  1. People who talk to me on airplanes.  We’re seatmates, not friends.
  2. Runaway peacocks.
  3. Backhanded compliments.
  4. Bailey’s non-alcoholic creamer. What’s the point?
  5. Kelly Osbourne’s rant on Christina Aguilera and Kate Middelton.  Who decided this girl is relevant? Not only is she crass, but she’s completely out of touch with reality.
  6. Cheap disposable razors.  Probably better off shaving with shards of glass.
  7. Empty refrigerators.  If there’s not even enough to make a sandwich, it’s time to hit the supermarket.
  8. Kool-Aid colored hair.
  9. Wearing headphones while driving. Is that even legal?
  10. People who can’t park in the confines of a parking space. These are the same people who leave their carts in the parking lot.

Ah, now don’t you feel better?

Friday Frocks: Blue Jean Baby

By |August 5th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

There’s nothing more American than denim… and apple pie… and apparently Sienna Miller taming a tiger.  Perhaps you’re not the type of girl who likes to slip into skin tight jeans, but  you’d still like to try to show some patriotism by wearing this heavy duty fabric.  Today’s your lucky day!  By God, every day is your lucky day because you live in America!  Denim isn’t reserved strictly for your stems these days.  Just take a look at how these stylish celebs (and America’s favorite Brit) have been wearing their blue jeans.

Who knew denim could make for such fabulous frocks?  By wearing you blues in dress form, you are giving a casually playful look that is perfect for summer barbecues, running errands, and lunching with girlfriends.  Depending on shoes and and accessories, this look can be dressed up or dressed down.  Just like jeans, denim frocks are very versatile.

1. Burberry Brit Denim Blue Sleeveless Pintuck Dress, $207, 2. Sandro Respire Denim Effect Shirt Dress, $335, 3. Quicksilver Wind Swells Dress, $64.50, 4. Forever 21 Denim Wrap Dress, $27.80, 5. Current Elliot Dark Tin Belted Denim Dress, $470, 6. Top Shop Denim Jersey Pinafore Dress, $65, 7. Rebecca Taylor Quilted Denim Dress, $325, 8. COPE Snap Front Chambray Dress, $39.99, 9. Why Did You Wear That: Denim on Denim Crime

By |February 23rd, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

Another trend that was once a fashion faux pas is double denim.  While you are probably rolling your eyes and ready to click that cute little “x,” hear me out.  Kate Bosworth can clearly do no wrong and here she is as a shining example of how denim on denim can look totally chic.  Britney and JT, on the other hand, are exemplifying that it is possible to have too much of a good thing.

The trick when wearing “denim times two” is to make certain that the pieces are distinctly different shades.  Also, the silhouettes should also be contrasting proportions.  Don’t wear boyfriend jeans with a blousey shirt or vice versa (jeggings and a denim tube top). If you’re going to attempt this somewhat controversial trend, try a dark skinny pant with a loose chambray button down just like Kate.

don’t break my  heart…

The List Volume XXIII

By |October 15th, 2010|The List|

I mean, there aren’t enough hours in the day for the annoyances that have shown up on my doorstep this week…

  1. Los Angeles.
  2. This onslaught of hot young actresses in “mom” jeans.
  3. The Real Housewives of DC. I hope there is not a second season.
  4. Ashlee Simpson’s new ‘do. Though her baby’s awfully cute.ashlee-simpson-new-blonde-pixie-bob-hairstyle-240bes101310
  5. WordPress… no, I didn’t need that last draft. No, seriously… it’s fine.
  6. Cat vomit. Thanks, Fluff.
  7. People who blatantly copy WhyDid and people who steal my gays. I mean I can’t.
  8. Zoe Saldana’s Calvin Klein commercial. It makes me really uncomfortable.
  9. People who can not just be happy for others. I do not need your lecture. Just smack me five and let’s move on.
  10. Jessica Simpson… just for good measure.

Luckily, I’m blonde… otherwise you’d be giving me grey hair.
