Why Did You Wear That: Baby, You’re a Firework

By |July 4th, 2013|Personal Style|

This year’s Fourth of July couldn’t have fallen more perfectly on the calendar.  A four day weekend?  God bless, is right.  This, however, led many to stress out over where they’d spend such a fortuitous long weekend.  I couldn’t even begin to tell you where I was last year during the Fourth.  I’ve given it a bit of thought, and I have zero recollection.  Sadly, that has no correlation to the amount of fun that was had.  The year before, I watched fireworks alone on my rooftop, simply because it was less frightening to hear the fireworks if I could actually see them.  To be honest, fireworks scare me, but I also have an irrational fear of dragonflies, so it doesn’t hold much weight.  I do, however, love the ol’ US of A despite all its flaws.  I’ve never been one to wear a Christmas sweater or paint my face for a football game, but I do think it’s nice to give a patriotic nod to our great United States by adding a bit of red, white, and blue to your holiday ensemble– in a totally non-obvious manner, of course.

Why Did You Wear That: Toot It and Boot It

By |October 16th, 2012|Why Did You Wear That?|

women in boots

You know what I like almost as much as cashmere sweaters, puppies, and unicorns?  Boots!  A great pair of boots (or twenty) makes winter and the impending arctic ice storms (almost) bearable.  In addition to the standard short black bootie, knee high boots, and riding boots, there are four trend heavy boots I’ve picked up on for this fall…and you should too.  Toss one (or two, or three, or four) of these styles into your regularly scheduled program to kick things up a bit (had to).

Why Did You Wear That: Let’s Hear it for the Boys

By |February 19th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Look for Less, Somethin for the fellas, Why Did You Wear That?|

group of guysI realize that an awful lot of time is spent guiding the lovely ladies from fashion disasters to fashion dreams, but what about the men in our lives?  They need some help too, no?  While some of you may have tried (hopefully with some success), perhaps citing a credible source will help in your endeavors to dress up your man.  I mean, I’ve pointed out some of the negatives: sagging pants, terrible jeans, wearing chinos in the champagne room, and an entire “List” dedicated to a whole other mess of style violations.  This week I’ve dug up a few of Hollywood’s hottest hotties and what they’ve been wearing in their down time and when gallivanting around town.

Why Did You Eat That: South of the Border

By |September 20th, 2010|Los Angeles, Why Did You Eat That?|

Last week one of my besties came from New York to visit me here in sunny Los Angeles. After launching into a diatribe about the amount of fedoras she had seen with in her first five minutes of being here, she then made a very poignant statement. She said, “Call me crazy, but I feel like everyone here tries really, really hard.” She couldn’t be more right. So, rather than take her to the typical sh*t show restaurants of Hollywood, we opted to take her somewhere a bit more low key.

Since my pal was in dire need of cocktail and craving Mexican,  El Compadre seemed like the obvious choice. Modeled after a traditional Mexican hacienda with dim lighting and live entertainment from some muchachos with guitars, it is the perfect place to enjoy some delicious food and great company… not to mention it is home to the famous “Flaming Margarita.”

l-1I really love this restaurant because it is zero glitz and glamour, but serves up totally authentic (and yummy) Mexican (though it will never replace Benny’s Burrito). There’s a reason that El Compadre has been around for thirty plus years and it probably has quite a bit to do with their enchiladas. Most plates are fairly large and could probably be shared between two people (but no one will judge you if you don’t).

Why Did You Wear That: These Boots Were Made For…

By |July 29th, 2010|Why Did You Wear That?|

I’m really feeling for shit kicking boots right now. Maybe it’s because I just saw a man flip out and throw something at a pizza place and feel the need to toughen up my look. Whatever the case may be, I love them paired with denim shorts and an oversized v-neck or a flirty floral dress. Here are some of my favorites:
