Why Did You Wear That: Stay Fly

By |July 18th, 2012|Why Did You Wear That?|

flying paper airplaneThe worst part about traveling to me is the process (followed in close second by packing).  Getting through the airport is a simple form of hell.  Having to stand barefoot in security is bad enough, but the mere thought of my skin touching the seat freaks me out (FYI- I have the same problem with movie theaters).  The short answer to this problem would be to layer on as much protective layers as possible, but in case you missed the memo, it’s hot out.  So what does one wear when it’s 95 degrees and about 1000% humidity?  Here’s a hint:  It’s absolutely NOT a Juicy tracksuit.

airport attire1. Forever 21 Metallic Trapeze Tank, $15.80, 2. Urban Renewal Gauze Bell Bottom Pant, $39.00, 3. Sam Edelman Gigi T Strap Sandals, $70, 4. alice + olivia Phoebe Mid Length Slim Dress, $176, 5. Cooperative Applique Ballet Flat, $34, 6. KAIN Label Pocket Tank, $80, 7. Forever 21 Sheer Abstract Maxi Skirt, $13.50, 8. Ecote Soleil Thong Sandal, $29, 9. Gucci Round Frame Metal Sunglasses, $325, 10. Dorothy Perkins Black Flyaway Cardigan, $29, 11.  See by Chloe Ambre Big Tote, $550

Please remember that you can be comfortable without  wearing printed pajama pants to the airport.  Pull yourself together, sister… you never who might be in the next seat.

Stay fly.

Why Did You Wear That: We’re Doing Denim

By |July 11th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

celebrities in denim shirts

I realize that the mere mention of “denim shirt” may conjure up images of mullets, Canadian tuxedos, and probably a can of Miller Lite, but in the past few weeks, celebrities and style stars alike have proven that there are several very stylish ways to wear a denim shirt.  While Billy Ray is probably not your style icon, he’s notorious for sporting the style.  Take a deep breath and instead channel your inner Kate Bosworth, who showed us how to do denim on denim like a pro.  Not sure denim on denim is for you?  There’s a plethora of other stylish ways to pair your denim top.  Try one of these or mix and match:

Setting the Mood: There Will Be Fireworks

By |July 2nd, 2012|Setting the Mood|

fireworks flags happy 4thEver pick up the newspaper…. who am I kidding, who reads newspapers.  Ever look at your Twitter newsfeed and after scanning the headlines think to yourself, “Dang it, I’m pretty psyched to be an American.”?  Yeah, I think that sometimes too.  Other times, I’m ready to flee the country, but today isn’t going to be one of those days.  Today we are going to celebrate and channel all that is fabulous about the good ol’ U S of A… and find ways to wear it.  That’s right, we are doing all things stars, stripes, blue, red, and white.

celebrities wearing flagsBack around Memorial Day, the trend of sporting patriotic style made its debut and seems that since then, being proud to be an American only became that much more on trend.  Well, as it turns out, this week we commemorate our great country’s independence and I really can’t think of a better time to get your patriotism on.

Why Did You Wear That: Laundry Day

By |June 27th, 2012|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

There are so many things I love about living in Manhattan: grocery delivery, all night diners, cabs on every corner.  Things that make life so much more convenient that at times you begin to wonder how you ever lived without them.  However, there is one small thing that isn’t always such a cinch.  That dreaded thing happens to be laundry.  Granted, no one enjoys doing laundry, but in New York, if you aren’t fortunate enough to have an in apartment washer and dryer, you are left with one of two choices.  Send your laundry out and allow a stranger to manhandle your unmentionables (not to mention allowing said stranger to discern what does and does not belong in the dryer) or do your laundry yourself.  The latter would require you to sit and sweat while your socks hit the spin cycle.  It’s not like you could leave your beloved laundry in fear of someone stealing it… or dumping it out to access the dryer for themselves.  So, this past weekend, I chose the somewhat lesser of two evils (I needed my underwear STAT and Little J’s couldn’t launder me til Monday).  Making the best of things and not having anything left to wear, I played a little game of dress up and sported my very last pair of striped socks with a floral frock and floral sandals.  Hey, you never know what kind of cutie might be sudsing up his stuff in the next machine…

Why Did You Wear That: Jumping at the Chance

By |June 20th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

celebrity jumpsuits 2012Another one of my favorite “all in one” outfits is the jumpsuit; a very close cousin of the romper.  While you may equate the jumpsuit to the disco queens of the 70’s or the Angela Bowers of the 80’s, the jumpsuit is actually being made quite current by the A-list of the red carpet.  The jumpsuit started its reemergence last year, and I “jumped” right on that trend (couldn’t help it).  This look can be both casual (see my favorite American Apparel version here) and incredibly glamorous (remember when Rose Byrne first wore one to the SAG Awards?).  So, whether you choose to wear yours with flats for Sunday brunch or heels for Saturday night fever, this trend is sure to leave you looking anything but out of style.
