Why Did You Wear That: Double Up

By |June 21st, 2011|Why Did You Wear That?|

While shopping for my mom’s birthday present this past weekend (Happy Birthday, mom!) at Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, we stopped by a jewelry store (like mother, like daughter).  While there, I asked to have my earrings and ring cleaned.  The diamond decked woman took my precious stones and started shining them up.  When she returned, she informed me that she had found a loose stone in my ring and she would need to keep it to have the jeweler tighten it.  Initial feeling: Phew! Glad she found it!  Feeling of realization: Dang it! I’m going to have to go without my ring for a week.  What’s my little naked finger going to do?

To avoid any type of “tabloid scandal” or socially controversial questions as to the whereabouts of my ring (Okay, I know I’m no Bennifer, but whatevs), I decided to have a little fun and dress up my ring finger with not one, but two sparkly substitutes.  The first ring is a giant pink sapphire that I bought myself several years ago and the other is my grandmother’s ring (blue topaz) that she gave to my mom when she was my age.  It was a little different at first, but I got used to it and people really loved what I had going on.

Moral of the story?  Here’s a situation when two may actually be better than one.  Stack some cocktail rings on your fingers next time you’re heading out and want a little extra shimmer at the tips of your fingers.

Would You Wednesday: Give Me a Ring

By |January 26th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

It’s no secret that Jennifer Love Hewitt is A) a little bit loopy and B) hasn’t had the best luck in the dating department.  So, it comes as no surprise that she created quite a bit of buzz in a recent interview.  When she appeared on the Ellen Degeneres Show, she revealed that she’s got three different rings at Tiffany’s all picked out for her future betrothed.

Now, in reality, most young ladies all have a certain ring in mind when they think about the “big question” being popped.  So, there is certainly a chance that we may have left subtle hints lying around or have pointed out a ring we like on someone else’s finger.  Some of us may have even delegated a close friend (with good taste) as the “go to” gal if your beau should have any questions or need guidance.  I think all of that is normal.

However, the way Ms. Hewitt approached the topic was totally tacky and what sparked all the buzz.  Picking her rings from Tiffany’s was her first rookie mistake in my humble opinion.  I mean, could you be any more predictable and dull?  Probs not.  The real issue lies within her comments about not wanting to be “disappointed” with her ring.  Did we not already cover this? Yo, Jen Love?   Perhaps if you spent more time picking out a stellar stud, you could spend less time worrying about a gemological dud.

So, is it wrong to make a finger bling wish list? Or is it just plain tacky?

well, good luck, JLove.

Monday Mashup: The Newlyweds

By |November 15th, 2010|Monday Mashup|

So, last week Nick Lachey popped the question to long time love, Vanessa Minnillo right before they both celebrated their birthdays in Mexico. Ah… young love. The news spread quickly and focused mostly on the fact that Jessica Simpson was probably eating her weight in Hagen Daas while having a mental breakdown. Then lo and behold… We find out that now Ms. Simpson is also ENGAGED! Not even a week later, Jessica was seen sporting a ring from boyfriend of six months, Eric Johnson. Um, coincidence?

I’m not going to harp on their short courtship (cause these things do happen -wink, wink), but I’m actually more concerned with the far too obvious (might I add tacky) timing. I mean, what are the chances that both Nick and Eric had been planning tandem proposals? Slim to none. Methinks Ms. Simpson lost her shit and poor Eric feared for his life. The only way to tame the shrew? Put a ring on it. I feel halfway sorry for Eric while the other half feels like he’s a big pu$$y who knew he might be in jeopardy of losing his meal ticket (and we know Jessica never misses a meal). I smell foul play… or is that the smell of desperation?

So, who got the better bling? Eric popped the question to Jessica with a ruby ring flanked by diamonds from Neil Lane, while Vanessa was proposed to by Nick with an ascher cut diamond from jewelry designer  Bader and Garin.
