Weekend Playlist: Guest DJ

By |June 4th, 2011|Guest Blogger, Weekend Playlist|

Like most, I had a Tuesday for a Monday this week (due to Memorial Day).  I initially thought, “Yay, no way will the start of this week blow like the others do!” But I was dead wrong.  I arrived at work with double the usual amount of work and attempted to make it through my day with RedBull alone.  Half way through the day I started up my iPod on my fav song and decided to let Genius do the rest.  A minute and a half into Le Blorr’s “Oh Christopher” I was smiling ear to ear.  I’d like to share this great mix in hopes that it can have the same effect on you fine people.  If I was a Von Trapp these songs would def be things I’d sing about.

  1. Bastard LoveChild of Rock and Roll– Oh Christopher
  2. Phantograms– Mouthful of Diamonds
  3. Fleetwood Mac– Gypsy
  4. Jonsi– Go Do
  5. Billie Holliday– The Way You Look Tonight
  6. M83– We Own the Sky
  7. Warpaint– Stars
  8. Donora– I Think I Like You
  9. Telepopmusik– Breathe
  10. YACHT– Psychic City (voodoo city)
  11. Ghostland Observatory– Give Me the Beat

The List Volume XLVI

By |June 3rd, 2011|The List|

Let’s keep it short and bittersweet… kind of like the cocktail I had at 5 o’clock.

  1. Bacne.Take care of your craters before slipping into a halter. Thx.
  2. Burnt popcorn. (To be honest, I don’t like popcorn at all).
  3. Open toed shoes are a privilege.  If you insist on wearing them, please make sure your toes are presentable.
  4. San Francisco’s weather.
  5. Melodrama.
  6. The Real Housewives of New Jersey.  This is a grown up Jersey Shore and it’s gotta go. (Ya hear that, Bravo?)
  7. Dirty grout.
  8. The smell of laundry that’s been left in the washer too long.
  9. High waisted jeans. Everyone looks like an a-hole in them.  No one’s vajay and entire female reproductive system needs to be accentuated to that degree.
  10. People who will not, no matter how hard I stomp, huff, and/or puff get out of the middle of the sidewalk. MOVE.

Have an absolutely fantastic weekend.  It’s calling for rain here in SF. Mazel.

Friday Frocks: LWD

By |June 3rd, 2011|Friday Frocks|

Despite the fact that the whole “don’t wear white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day” stigma is really no longer relevant, many people still follow these strict guidelines.  Seeing as we are now in the “safe zone” of wearing white, I think it’s high time to trade in that trusty black cocktail dress for something a little lighter.  May I suggest white?  Nothing says summertime like golden skin against stark white hemlines.

By the way, how about a little history lesson on the rules of white between Memorial Day and Labor Day?:

Most of the folk-lore about wearing white seems to be rooted in the South (in other words, the part of the United States that is below the Mason Dixon Line).  For GRITS (girls raised in the south), wearing white before Easter or after Labor Day is simply a clear sign of bad manners and poor class.  Still today, many Southern ladies would never be seen wearing white in the winter or fall months, that is unless they were getting married.

There you have it, ladies.  Time to move into this century.  Ever heard of winter white? Anyway, why not slip into one of this white hot frocks this weekend?

1. BB Dakota Jessica Dress, $66, 2. Forever 21 Crochet Yoke Surplice Dress, $19.80, 3. Kimberly Ovitz Buren Dress, $585, 4. INC International Concepts Lace Sheath Dress, $99.50, 5. Style Stalker Trust Fund Dress, $119, 6. Mark & Badgley by Badgley Mischka Crepe Caftan, $295, 7. Isabel Marant Danel Zip Trimmed Crocheted Lace Mini, $825, 8. Torn by Ronny Kobo Sari Ruched Dress, $315, 9. Free People Off the Shoulder Dress, $168, 10. Marciano Mindi Pencil Dress, $188

Why Don’t You Take a Vacation?

By |June 2nd, 2011|Beauty Buzz|

I know that last weekend was Memorial Day, but come on.  The weather hasn’t gotten nearly nice enough here in the Bay to even sorta kinda feel like summer. Hell, I had on a sweater yesterday!  As I longingly look at snapshots on Facebook of friends by the beach and pan through emails from Gilt JetSetter, I mentally transport myself to a chaise lounge chair in Honolulu (sipping a mai tai, of course).  I can hear the waves, feel the sun, and even smell the suntan lotion on my sunkissed skin- can you feel it?  Then I hear that oh so familiar email “ding” and am brought right back to reality.  Oh, that’s right.  I’m in an office.  wearing glasses and not the sun protective type.

Well, until I get a little time to hop a flight to Hawaii, I’ve come up with a temporary mood boosting, mind tricking fix.  I’m going to smell like vacation.  That’s right.  Don’t underestimate the power of scent.  Slathering on a few of these products in the morning can transport you from even the dreariest climate to your dream destination.  Hey… it’s cheaper than a vacation.

1. St. Ives Naturally Indulgent Advanced Body Moisturizer, $5.49 2. Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Shampoo, $6.99, 3. Escada Taj Sunset Eau de Toilette, $55, 4. Beach Sexy Tan Enhancing Shimmer Lotion with Tint, $12, 5. Bliss Blood Orange + White Pepper Sugar Scrub, $36, 6. Philosophy Melon Daiquiri Lip Shine, $10

Bon voyage!

Would You Wednesday: Picture Phone Peekaboo

By |June 1st, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

As many of you have probably read, another young starlet has a “nude photo scandal.”  The lovely Blake Lively of Gossip Girl fame allegedly has some leaked naughty nude photos running rampant via the web.  Her reps were quick to deny they were Blake (shocker), but the resemblance is uncanny.

A couple of things: 1. If I was Blake, I’d claim that body.  Don’t care whose it is- Yowza! 2. If this is not, in fact, Blake, I trust that the fine folks over at Victoria’s Secret/Sports Illustrated, are on the hunt for the young lady who this bodacious bod belongs to.

Okay, so back to the real topic at hand.  When the hell are girls (especially those of the celebrity species) going to learn?  If you take naked pics and send them to your beau du jour, at some point in time an unintended audience will probably be fortunate enough to enjoy your nekkid body.  Now, (Dad- earmuffs), I have sent some racy photos to a significant other before… And while I do wish this fella was no longer in possession of said sexy photos, they weren’t something I’m morbidly ashamed of.  That said- I would NOT want the entire world to see them.  I take care of my body and would like to keep its splendor strictly reserved for my future hubs and my best gal pals (not modest, kids).  If I wanted the entire planet to see all my nooks and crannies, I’d just do a spread in Playboy.  At least I’d get paid…

So what do you think? Yay or nay to nudie photos?
