The List Volume LIX

By |November 18th, 2011|The List|

Let’s make it quick and painless, people.  Kinda like a one night stand. Wait, what?

      1. Occupy _______.  Seriously?  Why not try occupying your life?  Or a job?
      2. Christmas music.  Okay, yeah, I know.  You could call me the Grinch for that, but you’re wrong.  I love the holidays.  My real issue is that stores are already cranking out Frosty the Snowman, and I haven’t even thought about buying a turkey yet.
      3. A promotion without a raise.  That’s like a tequila shot without a lime.
      4. Debbie downers.  We only have so much time on this planet, so may as well make the best of it.  I realize it’s pretty ironic to include this on The List, seeing as the whole point is to bitch about annoying things.  But I’m just trying to make my remaining time on Earth less obnoxious by educating those who are less self aware.
      5. People who treat their airplane seats like La-Z Boys.  I know they recline, but if I wanted a lapdance, I’d just go to a strip club.  At least I can get a steak there.
      6. And while we’re at it, dangling your arms over the back of the seat.  I’m not sure what’s more awkward- that or your head in my crotch.
      7. Indecisive people.  Seriously, just pick something.  Anything.
      8. The entire family whose last name begins with K (and some with J).  When can we stop talking about them?
      9. Forever Lazy.  You’ve got to be f*&$ing kidding me?
      10. Lady Hoggers.  No, I’m lying.  I think it’s awesome.

Shut up.

Beauty Buzz: Sleeping Beauty

By |November 17th, 2011|Beauty Buzz|

Life’s hard.  After a long day at work, who has time (let alone energy) to spend hours on a beauty routine.  When life starts to wear on you, it also starts to show up on your face.  So waking up in the morning is not always such a beautiful thing.  Try Face Timing me at 8am.  Not pretty.  Rather than waking up looking more like a wild banshee than a fresh spring flower, try putting your beauty sleep to work for you.

  1. Not only should you be sleeping on your back– on more than one pillow (propped up), you should also be using a silk pillow case.  No, not because you’re a princess and only deserve the best (although, that’s true too).  Silk pillow cases are more gentle on both hair and skin.  Try this Spasilk Pillow, $14.99
  2. In case you have yet to jump on the Aquaphor bandwagon- It’s time.  I have a tube of this on my nightstand.  I use it for my lips as well as on my eyes.  Not only does it hydrate the very delicate skin around your eyes… I swear my eyelashes are fuller thanks to this heavy ointment.  Aquaphor, $5.99
  3. Your new silk pillowcase will help with bad hair days, but take it one step further by putting hair into a loose braid before resting your head at night.  Or try Christina’s ballerina bun.
  4. When life hands you a lemon… squeeze it into a glass of warm water and down it before bed.  A glass at night and another in the morning will have you looking fresh and svelte in no time.
  5. Just like your face, your body needs moisture too.  Bedtime is the best time to slather yourself with rich body lotion.  Do yourself a favor and try this Lavender Lotion from Bath & Body Works, $13

Smart is the New Pretty: When I Grow Up…

By |November 16th, 2011|Smart Is the New Pretty, WhyDid Wisdom|

Oh the million dollar question… What do you want to be when you grow up?  Now, I know, many of us are already college graduates with several years of job experience under our belts, but that doesn’t mean we are living out our greatest career fantasies.  So, really, what do you want to be when you grow up?

Hey, these bills aren’t gonna pay themselves.

Would You Wednesday: Field of Greens

By |November 16th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

The holidays are just around the corner.  I mean, obviously.  I can’t escape the already blaring Christmas carols and tinsel covered shelves at Target.  Since when did we start celebrating before the turkey was even tossed in the oven?  Ah, well, either way this means that many of you are already thinking about holiday dressing (and no, I don’t mean the kind on your table).

Recently, both Gwyneth Paltrow and Zoe Saldana were snapped wearing head to toe sequined green frocks at different events.  Both were by Elie Saab (someone’s having a green moment) and both prove that green is flattering on all skin tones and hair colors.  Green is a fresh new take on wearing color and I’m a fan of opting for green rather than reindeer red for holiday parties, but what do you think?

Go green.

Why Did You Wear That: Morning Glory

By |November 15th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

Ever have one of those days where you just don’t want to get out of bed?  You’d rather just stay in your jammies and spend the day watching garbage daytime TV and taking all your meals in bed?  Oh, that’s everyday?  Yeah, me too.  Sadly, mama’s gotta pay the bills… which, of course, would require one to actually pry herself from those 1200 thread count sheets and take part in normal human behavior and social activities.  Oh well… doesn’t mean you can’t be comfortable.  As a matter of fact, I’d like to encourage you to wear your nightgown from your bedroom right on downtown.

Slip a soft sweater over your silky nightie.  Accessorize with chunky gold accessories, a pop of bright eye makeup (so you don’t still look like you’re sleeping), and work appropriate oxfords.  While it may not be the day you dreamt of, at least you will look dreamy.

1. Anthropologie Mirabelle Chemise, $89.60, 2. Report Lance Oxford Platforms, $66.90, 3. Frenchi Off-Shoulder Oversived Sweater, $58, 4. Kenneth Cole Silver Iridescent Beaded Bracelet, $35, 5. Mango TOUCH Asymmetric Earrings, $34.90

Good morning.
