Would You Wednesday: Take One for the Team

By |May 25th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?, Why Did You Date Him?|

A certain ample bottomed celebrity who will remain nameless (we have a zero tolerance policy here at WhyDid) recently announced her engagement to a 26 year old NBA basketball player.  I hate to be a naysayer when it comes to love, but this marriage has about the same chance of surviving as a snow cone does in hell.  Now, now… I know what you’re thinking: give the kids a chance.  I would like to be proven wrong, but the cards are stacked against them.

I, myself, have dabbled in the “field” of professional athletes.  While it was nothing serious, and my  heart was left unscathed, I realize now how naive I had been back then.  Seeing as I’m not an avid sports fan, when I’d met the gentleman I had no idea who he was, let alone his occupation (as a matter of fact I think he told me he was a DJ).  All I knew was that he was good looking and I was 21 and single in the city.  We lived far apart, so we didn’t see each other much.  I’d be a fool to think there weren’t at least twenty more of me scattered around the states.  But, alas, a fool I was.  It was flattering and fun to tell my girlfriends, so I continued to play the game.  I will never forget waiting downstairs for him after a game with the rest of the “wives” thinking A). how underdressed I was and B). how ridiculous it all was.  After seeing the girls hanging around hotels and stadiums, and garnering nasty glares from girls when we were out, it made me realize that all of this was a lot less innocent than dating your average frat boy.

I’ve heard countless stories and seen with my own pretty eyes athletes behaving badly.  (Perhaps even one such story involving the newly affianced).  Ample amounts of money and cleavage make for a deadly combination.  The odds are stacked against these athletes with groupies, gold diggers, away games, and schedules that are just not conducive to a healthy relationship. With 60-80% of marriages ending in divorce, NFL players are well above the national average (this statistic holds true for comparable sports).  I’ll be the first to admit I’m crazy jealous, so I’m not sure how pro-athletes’ wives deal with all the temptation awaiting their handsome hubbies.  Are the trips and shoes and status enough to make up for it?

Many couples have tried, but not many have been successful.  Have you seen an episode of Basketball Wives?  So, would you be willing to place a wager on such a dating gamble?

He shoots. He scores!

Would You Wednesday: Well Red

By |May 11th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

For years, redheads weren’t always treated like the bombshells they are.  Coppertops, gingers, firecrotches… the list goes on and on.  It seems funny that redheads get such a bad rap when some of our very favorite leading ladies were blessed with rusty roots.  Who doesn’t love Molly Ringwald in Breakfast Club?  What little girl didn’t want to grow up and look like Julia Roberts?  And who can forget about cartoon bombshell Jessica Rabbit?

Recently, crimson coifs are stepping up and taking center stage. Young, hot Hollywood is trading in the standard sunny blonde and sultry brunette for fiery red.

Rihanna has been sporting a very cherry ‘do for quite some time and Scarlett Johansson was the most recent buxom blonde to start seeing red.  These ladies look lovely, but are you ready for red?

Some things you should know before getting all fired up:

  • Approximately 1-2% of the population have naturally occurring red hair and it is a recessive gene.
  • Red is the hardest color to fake due to the many shades available.  Most dye jobs will end up looking very unnatural.
  • Red hair is very difficult to maintain.  It fades faster than all other hair colors.  This can lead to some very strange hues between touch ups.
  • Skin color plays a huge role in red hair.  If you are fair, you can get away with almost any shade of red, but a light red will look most natural.  If you are darker skinned, go with a deep auburn or darker red.
  • Don’t forget: When you dye your hair, the eyebrows must also follow suit.

So, would you dare trade in your shade for red?

Would You Wednesday: Scissor Sisters

By |March 23rd, 2011|Beauty Buzz, Why Did or Why Don't?|

Today I did something that I really dread doing.  No, I didn’t go to the dentist.  Not the gyno either.  I went to get a haircut.  Ever since I moved to Los Angeles and my old hairdresser moved out of the states, I have not done a thing to my hair.  No color, no cutting, no nothing.  I have a hard time trusting just anyone with the care of my hair.  Finally, I gave in as I stared at my straggly strands.  It was high time to care of the straw I was calling “hair.”  I headed over to Neihule Salon, crossed my fingers, and hoped for the best.

Luckily, I was in good hands.  The woman in charge of the fate of my locks was Whitney Thomas.  I told her all about my follicle fears and she understood.  She showed me how much she was going to cut and made sure I was okay with it.  A wash, snip, and blow dry later, I left with shiny, bouncy, freshly trimmed hair.

I did my due diligence by coming home and inspecting every square inch of my head to make sure I loved it.  I did.  (So, if you’re scissor shy just like me, I’d head on over and give Whitney a visit).  I felt even better about my new ‘do when I saw these photos of Brooklyn Decker:

WTF?!  What made Brooklyn do such a thing to her hair?  Did she think looking like Meg Ryan would help her movie career in the Rom-Com arena? Perhaps she thought that this was the hairdo of marital bliss.  (I did see a few moms in my pilates class with the same style).  She spent an awful lot of time on set with Jennifer Anniston, so it’s also possible that she figured creating her own “Rachel” would land her a recurring role on a sitcom. Welp, at least her dress was cute.

BTW- she’s TWENTY THREE!  So… did BK get a little scissor happy?

snip, snip.

Would You Wednesday: Do You Have a Hall Pass?

By |March 16th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

I haven’t seen Hall Pass (nor do I plan on it) but it certainly got me thinking… would people really do this?  Basically, from what I can tell from the previews, the premise is that these married men receive a one week “hall pass” from their wives to do whatever they like (no rules) for one week.  Sounds like a fantastic idea.

Couple things: 1). if your hubsters even has an inkling of wanting to go frolick in greener pastures, you should probs just let him go. Forever. 2). If you’re dumb enough to agree to such, you need to go ahead and seek therapy STAT.

I feel similarly to bachelor/bachelorette parties, but we can get into that at another time.  Why on Earth would you go handing out a hall pass to your husband like naive substitute teacher?

Class is dismissed.

Would You Wednesday: Get In My Belly.

By |March 9th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

Sticking with the swimsuit theme…

Recently, the lovely Kate Hudson was photographed catching some rays in an itsy bitsy teeny bikini and a big ol’ baby bump.   She isn’t the first (Bethenny Frankel, Alicia Keys) and I’m fairly certain she won’t be the last.  I mean, I don’t really know what the alternative would be other than hiding under a tent and awning or timing your pregnancy so as to miss the hot summer months.  A one piece or a tankini would just make you look even larger.  So, I guess a teeny ‘kini is the only option. Pregnancy is a beautiful and natural thing, I’m just not sure I would want to bare my baby on board.

Is a baby bump + a bikini beautiful or bogus?
