Why Did You Wear That: Golden Girls

I stayed up putting this together until 4am last night… which led me to sleep in this morning, throwing off my entire schedule… and that’s why you’ve had to wait so long to hear what I’m sure you’ve been fidgeting in your seat hoping all day long to hear: my opinion.

And so below you’ll find my picks for the best, the worst, and the biggest trends that were seen on the red carpet from last night’s Golden Globes. It’s funny how different some of these dresses look in photographs as opposed to watching them live on TV. The colors look different, there’s no movement, and a little bit of the magic is sucked out of them. While gathering these snaps, I started to question my original picks, but then decided to go with the dresses that made me grin from the get go.

Last night’s show was all about the women of Hollywood and they certainly dressed the part. This is the first time in a long time where I actually had a hard time whittling down my choices and debating on how much to include in my recap. But enough about me, let’s get down to business.

The Best:

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors, Naomi Watts in Zac Posen, Julianne Moore in Tom Ford

The Worst:

Sienna Miller in Erderm, Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera, Halle Berry in Atelier Versace

And with every award show, there tends to be a trend or two that rules the red carpet. This year, without a doubt, it was the presence of black. At one point, I was left scratching my head wondering if this show was being held in Los Angeles or New York. Contrary to the belief that black is boring, the ladies found ways to wear this staple that were the least bit dull.

Sprinkled in with basic black were pops of tangerine, bits of blush, and lots of sparkle. Here are some trends that stood out and can probably expect to see more of during upcoming award shows.

Why Did You Wear That: Better Late Than Never

My computer clearly didn’t want my opinion on this year’s Emmy Awards Red Carpet, but I don’t believe for one minute that you guys didn’t. Afterall, my two cents is more like a million bucks. So, here we go. Above are my four favorites from the evening, while below, well…

So, some curtains, a banana, a gingerbread man, and a mermaid walk into a bar. Okay, I’ve got nothing, but wouldn’t that have made a great joke? If you’ve got one, please do share. While all of these ladies are quite lovely, their red carpet garb was anything but. I just can’t understand how Emmy nominated actresses can’t afford full length mirrors… or a competent stylist.

Red Carpet Recap: Childhood Favorites

If you weren’t watching The Bachelorette finale last night, it was obviously only because you were watching this year’s Teen Choice Awards. Known to be the more squeaky clean of award shows, Hollywood’s youngest stars came out in droves in hopes of collecting that shiny surfboard. Well, I don’t really care too much who wins what, I’m really just focused on who wore what. What came to my attention as I gathered images for this recap was that while some of Hollywood’s hottest looked downright adorable, perhaps others were taking that whole wholesome look to extremes. It would appear some of the ladies were channeling their favorite childhood characters. (To be fair, I had to Google 89% of these people. I guess that’s what happens when you are middle aged).

Friday Frocks: Fit for a Princess

Perhaps none of us will ever marry a “real” prince and become “real” life princesses like Kate, but there’s no reason we shouldn’t dress and feel like a princess. Would You Wednesday: Blushing Bride

On March 26, Reese Witherspoon walked down the aisle to wed Jim Toth, but she didn’t wear white. While Reese has been married once before (to Ryan Phillippe) she opted for something a little less traditional. Seeing as Reese has two children (Ava and Deacon) from her first marriage, some might say that it was only right for her to not wear white. Many traditionalists associate white wedding dresses with virginity. Well, a couple of things here: 1. There are very few brides who actually wed with virginity still in tact (It’s 2011. Let’s not be ridiculous), 2. White dresses actually have absolutely nothing to do with virginity.

The popularity of white dresses for weddings began back in 1840 when Queen Victoria wed Albert of Saxe-Coberg. Before then, it was common for women to wear dresses of any color to walk down the aisle except black (mourning) and red (prostitutes). Brides wishing to flaunt their virginity actually wore blue. White was a color associated with wealth because it was a dress that would not be easily worn again. When I was trying on wedding dresses, I noticed a lot of muted pastel tints to the dresses. I tried on an icy lavender, a beautiful blush, and a steely grey gown.
