Monday Mashup: A Case of Mistaken Identity

By |April 4th, 2011|Monday Mashup|

While in the checkout line the other day, my fiance asked me, “Babe, who is that?” while pointing at the cover of a glossy tabloid.  I looked over my shoulder quickly and answered, “Jessica Alba.”

I looked again at the headline and was baffled.  What wedding?  Only then did I notice that it was not, in fact, the lovely Jessica Alba.  I stared harder.

But, of course.  It was the tabloid queen, Kim Kardashian.  I had never thought that Kim and Jessica looked alike, however, this magazine cover was like looking at Jess’s twin sister.  This got me to thinking about a couple of things.  One being that Hollywood and the magazines who love it are spending far too much time in post production fixing up photos.  The other is the sad amount of cosmetic procedures taking place every single day.  Not only (but mainly) in La La Land, but all over the country.  Why is it that everyone is trying to look like some sort of predetermined perfect mold of a woman?  When did having a little bit of facial character become such a bad thing?  Isn’t there anything to be said for having your own “look”?  What’s the point of being famous if you’re being mistaken for someone else?

I think the moral of the story here, kids, is to love the way you look and emphasize your differences rather than try and hide them.

Why Did You Wear That: White Hot

By |January 25th, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

The weather outside is frightful (unless you live in Los Angeles), but there’s no need to stay curled up inside like a hermit or flip your shit like the abominable snowman.  Take a note from some very stylish celebs.  Wearing white after Labor Day is no longer a fashion faux pas.  Some of the sexiest starlets have been sporting winter white on all of the hottest red carpets.

So, before you reserve yourself to alpaca and shearling for the rest of the winter months, why not try out this winter’s most fiercely feminine color?  Be sure to pick something in a heavier (winter weight) fabric.  If you live somewhere especially frigid, look for long sleeves and pair your look with opaque or patterned tights.  For footwear? Add a dash of color or something shiny!

Top (L to R): Alexander Wang Ribbed Tank Dress, $545, Halston Heritage Short Dress, $490, Milly Sleeveless Jewel Neck Dress, $355, Reiss Nanette Zip Frill Dress, $310

Bottom (L to R): Indah Macrame Back Mini Dress, $154, Acne Dolphin Draped Silk Wrap Dress, $660, Lauren by Ralph Lauren Carrie Boatneck Dress, $129, Religion 3/4 Length Dress, $98

Frosty!

Would You Wednesday: Alba Edition

By |September 1st, 2010|Why Did or Why Don't?|

Jessica Alba is so, so pretty. Her dress, however, is quite a pity. Here she is attending a dinner hosted by Uomo Vogue  honoring Quentin Tarantino last night. What do you think?

Five Things To Do Online Rather Than Stalk Your Ex

By |July 21st, 2010|Why Did You Date Him?|

facebook-stalking

We all know that the internet is ruining our dating lives but are you spending your valuable time worrying about others’ web presence? I’ve spent my fair share of time internet stalking via Facebook and Twitter and good old fashion Google… but there’s only so many searches you can do online before you’ve become bored and run out of background checks to run. Below are some more useful ways to waste your time online.

  1. Look up something you didn’t know. Knowledge is power, my friends. I Google just about everything. I hate not knowing the answer to things and who doesn’t like to always win an argument? Nobody. Don’t try and argue with me.
  2. Read the news. Novel idea, I know, but some people are only up to date as to whether Jennifer Anniston is actually pregnant or not. Why not become worldly and have something more interesting than Jessica Alba’s new bob to talk about at dinner?
  3. Find out about your ancestry. I mean, this seems like a no brainer to me. Who doesn’t wanna find out that they’re actually related to the royal family of Paraguay?
  4. Shop. Another no brainer. I’m starting to think I may need to put “online shopping” as a “skill” on my resume. I really have a knack for it, but this is a skill that should be honed and can only be done so with hours of practice. Don’t have you size in store? Not a problem, pal. Just find it online and use the best coupon codes from websites like Raise while you’re at it.
  5. Manage your finances. I guess this is a pretty funny thing to mention after encouraging you to shop online, but having a handle on what you are spending is very important. You never want to be worried that your card will be declined when trying to purchase those new Louboutins, so getting your bills and banking set up online is key to keeping yourself in check.

So put down the mouse and stop worrying about what Tommy did last weekend. (Yes, we know you’re totes hotter than his new gf, but who cares?).

C’mon, Vogue.

By |February 25th, 2009|Uncategorized|

Setting all political affiliation aside, I am a little put off by the March Vogue cover.  Really? Michelle Obama?  I’m going to get shot for saying this (when has that ever stopped me?), but a) she is not much to look at (sorry, told you) and b) she is in no way shape or form a style icon.  Granted she is, I’m sure, a wonderful, smart, interesting woman, but she is not Vogue cover worthy, I’m sorry.  Save her inspirational, uplifting stories about how she is a great mother and rules the roost even though her hubby is president for Time. She is the first lady, not a covergirl.

Which leads me to my real point, since when did models stop gracing the covers of magazines?  Why have they been evicted from the supermodel throne by these sassy little starlets?  Call me crazy, but isn’t that what models do?  Now they are just stuck with the editorials, ad campaigns, runway shows, and (gasp) showroom appointments?  (more…)
