Why Did You Wear That: Are You Red-dy?

By |September 27th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

It seems that red is the color of the season.  Whether it be Emmy gowns or accessories, everyone is trying out this hot hue.  If you don’t have a gala to go to and merely painting your nails crimson isn’t doing the trick, why not incorporate red into your everyday wardrobe?  Now, my friends often laugh at me cause I never get rid of any of my clothes… but the joke’s on you this time, ladies.  When I went home to visit my mom, I found these lovely red trousers just hanging out (literally) in the closet.  See, what goes around comes around… or perhaps I was just ahead of my time.  Anyway, red pants are a wonderful way to bring fall’s hottest color to your world.  Now, I’ve seen some stylists suggest the safe route of pairing your pants with a neutral of just grey or black, but I think that’s kind of boring.  I prefer to have a little fun with it.  I mean, you’re already wearing red pants.  (Plus, this is a great way to try out that whole colorblocking thing).

If you’re ready to try this look be sure to keep tone in mind.  If the red is more orange red, opt for a warm tone.  Might I suggest pink?  If the red is a more blue red, go for a cool shade- perhaps purple.  Use your head… or a color wheel and ground your look with black accessories.

Look for Less: Fancy Pants

By |September 25th, 2011|Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

There are certain things that make getting dressed in the morning that much easier… and no, Rachel Zoe is not an option.  We’ve already addressed one wardrobe essential with the blouse, but what’s a girl to wear on the bottom?  If it’s too chilly for a skirt (or you’re just too lazy to take a razor to your gams), slip in to some sleek tailored trousers.  There are so many options for pants, that you really can’t go wrong once you’ve found the right fit for your figure.  Wide leg works great on most gals, flares are great for a curvy bottom half, and high rise for ladies looking to add some curves.  Check out these sexy celebs in their fancy pants and re-create the look for yourself:

Friday Frocks: Falling for You

By |September 23rd, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

It’s official.  It’s fall.  You’ve had your Pumpkin Spice latte.  You’ve put that damn wreath on your door (why did you do that?).  Now, it’s time to start dressing the part.  I love summer clothes, but I really adore a cozy fall wardrobe.  A great fall dress can transition you from the first falling leaf, the to first falling snowflake.  Early in the season, wear your fall frocks with boots/booties and a light jacket.  When the thermostat dips, layer tights, a scarf and a heavier jacket to keep you warm and stylish.

1. Sonia Rykiel Argyle Sweater Dress, $2,195, 2. Mini for Many Tin Knit Dress, $179.55, 3. MaxMara Oversized Sweater Dress, $350, 4. Torn by Ronny Kobo Mila Rouched Croc Dress, $338, 5. Why Did You Wear That: American Woman

By |September 20th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

During this magical time of year called fall, it becomes incredibly awkward when trying to dress yourself.  I know we are all beyond elated that Starbucks brought back the Pumpkin Spice Latte, but I’m not exactly psyched when I stare blankly into the depths of my closet trying to figure out what I can put on that will not look seasonally inappropriate (like a summer sundress hangover), but also doesn’t make me look like an overzealous fashion obsessed robot who can not wait to sport fall’s hottest trends.  This is the perfect time of year to merge some of your summer favorites with your soon to be fall staples.  Pairing a breezy chiffon dress with flat booties and a lightweight jacket is the perfect outfit that says, “Oh, what?  This ol’ thing?”

Polka dots, while a huge trend for fall, can sometimes look a little too whimsical and girly for daytime.  That’s why I like to mix things up by adding studded booties and this motorcycle jacket from American Living for jcpenney.  This very same dress can be worn with platform heels in a pop of color with a bouncy high ponytail and cherry red lips to achieve a very girly get up for cocktails with the girls (or a handsome beau).

1. American Living by jcepenney Motorcycle Jacket, $54, 2. Splendid Polka Dot Cami Dress, $108, 3. Max and Chloe Star Double Ring, $40, 4. ASOS Double Row Chain Necklace, $18.30, 5. Dolce Vita Bronco Boot, $65.97

Toughen up.

Why Did You Wear That: Emmy’s Ladies in Red

By |September 18th, 2011|Red Carpet Recap, Why Did You Wear That?|

Tonight at the 63rd Annual Emmy Awards, there was one trend that was made very, very apparent.  The color of the evening?  Red, red, red.  From Kathy Griffin to Lea Michele, Hollywood’s small screen starlets were sporting this award season’s hottest color.  From shiny satin to scattered sequins, red popped on all skin tones and hair colors.  Guess these beauties were reading WhyDid (wink, wink).  The red carpet has never looked so good.
