Look for Less: There’s A Blouse In The House

By |August 25th, 2011|Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

A piece that all women would be wise to incorporate into their wardrobe is a feminine button down blouse. I tend to be a little “bottom” heavy – aka lots of pants and bottoms and not a top to go with ’em. A beautiful blouse can be very versatile depending on how you style it. From a casual outing (Rachel Bilson) to a very important meeting (Duchess Kate) a blouse can be worn for almost any and all occasions. Once you come to terms with the fact that titty tops are no longer appropriate, you too will be embracing the ladylike blouse.

Why Did You Wear That: The Bride Wore White

By |August 20th, 2011|Why Did You Wear That?|

It should be clear by now that I’m not a huge fan of Kim Kardashian.  I am, however, a huge fan of Vera Wang.  In case you’ve been living under a rock (or you happen to spend your time bettering your mind by reading books rather than watching E! News), you are well aware that Kim will be donning Vera for her big day.  You would also know that a custom Vera Wang gown would set you back at least a cool $10K.  Luckily, when your wedding budget is a mere $29 million, ten grand is nothing!

But for the rest of us, a ten thousand dollar dress might hurt our wallets.  No need to worry though.  Earlier this year, Vera Wang partnered with David’s Bridal to create a more affordable option for blushing brides everywhere.  White by Vera Wang ranges from $600-$1400 and looks like it could sit on the rack right next to her luxury bridal line.  So, if you’re in the market for a beautiful bridal gown, or you just like to look, check out White by Vera Wang for David’s Bridal:

Congrats to the newlyweds.

Friday Frocks: Work It, Girl.

By |August 19th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

I know.  It’s Friday and the last thing you’d like to be doing is thinking about work.  However, it’s a reality that we all must face.  Having been lucky enough to work in fashion offices for most of my “career” I never really had to do the whole “work appropriate” attire thing.  You see, in many fashion offices skinny jeans are equivalent to trousers and even ripped boyfriend jeans will fly (pending we are selling them in store and they’re on trend).  That said, I know that many of you stylish sisters aren’t working in such lax office environments and must adhere to a certain “dress code.”  That in no way means that you must dress like a stuffy secretary.  Fortunately, there are plenty of fashionable frocks that won’t make your boss frown.

1. MICHAEL Michael Kors Sleeveless Zipper Dress, $99.99, 2. Calvin Klein Ruffle Front Sheath Dress, $118,  3. INC International Concepts Cowlneck Striped Dress, $69.50, 4. Black Halo Pattison Sheath Dress, $330, 5. XOXO Cap Sleeve Fitted Peplum Sheath, $39.98, 6. Single Belted Sheath Dress, $149, 7. DKNY Cherry Cap Sleeve Sheath Dress, $450, 8. Black Halo Keyhole Ruffle Sheath Dress, $349, 9. New York & Company Colorblock Dress, $64.95, 10. Calvin Klein Stretch Ruffle Sheath Dress, $89

Plop a blazer and sensible (but still chic) shoes on and you’re all set for the day.  When it’s time for happy hour, you’ll be able to transition smoothly from day to night.

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, right?

Why Did You Wear That: Party Pants

By |August 16th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

This is one of my all time favorite outfits and these sequin shorts may seem silly, but I’ve found them to be awfully versatile. This particular pair of party pants has made its way from the Standard in New York to the Chateau Marmont in LA and had a blast all along the way.

Since moving up north, all my “fun” clothes have been doing nothing but collecting dust. Needless to say, my sequin shorts haven’t seen the light of day. Sorry, kids, unless you love to wear North Face, Patagonia and J. Crew when you’re feeling jazzy, Northern California is not for you.  But just because I’m suffering doesn’t mean you need to be.

Ready to turn your pants into a party? Thought so:

1. Kill City Good Country Muscle Tee, $52, 2. Chan Luu Sequined Track Shorts, $148, 3. Rachel Roy Cross Charm Bracelet, $65, 4. Anya Hindmarch Sea Snake Valerie Clutch, $650, 5. Dolce Vita Madison Platform Pump, $165

Are sequin shorts the new LBD? No, probably not, but they are certainly a fun addition to any girl’s wardrobe.

Why Did You Wear That: Layering Up

By |August 14th, 2011|Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

Three of my favorite looks from this week all have something in common.  They are all great transitional outfits.  As much as I hate to say it, summer is in its final stretch and fall is fast approaching.  During this time of year, it’s always tricky trying to figure out what to put on– or take off.  The weather is as temperamental as a woman with PMS and no M&M’s.  The only way to get your look right during this time of year is by layering up.  From Olivia Wilde’s cozy and casual look to Emma Stone’s red carpet Chanel Couture, these lovely ladies have mastered the art of layering and you can too by following these easy to put together layered looks (if you need a layering refresher course, click here):

1. All Saints Departed Hoodie, $67.50, 2. Mossimo Jersey Knit Maxi Skirt, $17.99, 3. Kashmere Blue Double Floral Print Cashmere Scarf, $138, 4. Forever 21 Cay Eye Sunglasses, $5.80

1. BCBG Emma Button Down Silk Chiffon Blouse, $168, 2. GYPSY 05 Carmen Twist Skirt, $99, 3. MICHAEL by Michael Kors Jenna Wedge Sandals, $145, 4. Staring at Stars Embellished Eternity Scarf, $32, 5. Elliot Lucca Millana Camera Snake Embossed Crossbody Bag, $64.90, 6. Urban Outfitters Tortoise Trim Aviator Sunglasses, $16

1. Matty M Pearl Metallic Crocheted Sequin Top, $43.99, 2. American Apparel Chiffon Full Length Skirt, $46, 3. M. Flynn Chandelier Cluster Earrings, $88, 4. Diane von Furstenberg Harper Evening Flap Shoulder Bag, $450, 5. Stuart Weitzman Nude Patent Daisy Pumps, $140.25

Keep cool. Stay hot.
