Why Did You Wear That: You Can Ring My Biel

By |October 12th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

jessica biel fendiLet’s go ahead and start off by saying it takes a whole heck of a lot to make Jessica Biel look bad.  That face, that hair, that body.  She’s working with all the right equipment, so when I saw this picture of her traipsing all over Paris in this over the top get up, I had to hold an intervention.  Girl, why so much?  At first I just assumed this had to be a costume for some upcoming movie role about an 80’s hair band or something, but lo and behold, she was just shopping at Fendi.  Yikes.  To be fair, I’d actually like each of the pieces if worn individually, but the combination of the jacket, top, pants, and boots is just too much.  I like studs as much as the next gal, but this just seems to be a bit overkill.  Thoughts?

Why Did You Wear That: Did I Do That?

By |October 9th, 2012|Why Did You Wear That?|

steve urkelYou know you’re getting old when you start saying things like, “They don’t make ’em like they used to.”  Well, from time to time I wax poetic about “classic” TV and some of the shows I grew up with.  Yes, I love The Nanny, Full House, and Who’s the Boss?, but let us not forget the great Family Matters starring the obnoxiously lovable, Steve Urkel.  Sure, sure he spent the majority of his time chasing around Laura Winslow and in hot pursuit of cheese, but perhaps we sold this geek a bit short.  No, I don’t mean his alter ego, Stefan.  I’m talking about his studious style that could very well be translated into something quite cool for modern day.

dress like steve urkel

1. Cutler and Gross D-Frame Acetate Optical Glasses, $470, 2. J. Crew Holden Plaid Cotton Blend Shirt, $78, 3. Steven Banx Two Tone Oxfords, $129, 4. Forever 21 Hooded Varsity Cardigan, $22.80, 5. Forever 21 Suspenders, $8.90, 6. Rag & Bone Dash Slouchy Skinny Jeans, $198,

See? suddenly Steve is looking a little less geek and a bit more chic.  And if I told you I hadn’t sung late night karaoke somewhere in Koreatown with Urkel himself, that’d be a lie.

If all else fails, Halloween is just around the corner.  Did I do that?

Friday Frocks: I Can Love You Sweater.

By |October 5th, 2012|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

oversize sweaterBy now, it should be clear how I feel about knitwear.  Cardigans, pullovers, hats, and gloves.  My favorite piece of knitwear, however, is the sweater dress.  By far one of the most versatile pieces of the autumnal season, it can be worn alone with a great pair of boots, with tights when the brisk breeze turns to a crisp chill, and over leggings when the snow plows start to rumble through the streets.  A slouchy, soft sweaterdress is the equivalent of an oversized boyfriend shirt.  It’s comfortable, easy, and altogether chic.  It also has the overwhelming effect of making you look completely cuddly and I cannot be held responsible if handsome strangers have the overwhelming urge to hug you when wearing one.

sweater dresses1. Club Monaco Kaylee Sweater Dress, $170, 2. Forever 21 Essential Cable Knit Sweater Dress, $27.80, 3. MINKPINK Queens Sweater Dress, $99, 4. Lovers & Friends Forever Sweater Dress, $190, 5. McQ Alexander McQueen Knitted and Lace Sweater Dress, $405, 6. ONE by YMC Sweater Dress, $199, 7. by Zoe Esky Tunic Sweater Dress, $238, 8. Rag & Bone Lisbeth Embroidered Sweater Dress, $595, 9. MHL by Margaret Howell Ribbed Knit Wool Sweater Dress, $295, 10. Rebecca Minkoff Essef V Back Cashmere Dress, $368

Ain’t nothin’ better than a dress that’s also a sweater.

Why Did You Wear That: Holy Moly!

fall trend 2012 cross jewelry

I don’t know what you did this past weekend (and it’s really none of my business), but maybe you’re feeling the need for a little repentance.  Fortunately for you, one of fall’s big jewelry trends may help ward off any unwelcome evil.  That’s right, the return of the rosary (or the cross) was shown on many of the runways. Paired perfectly with this fall’s luxurious leathers, velvets, crimsons, and blacks, the addition of this simplistic accessory is the perfect companion for a truly rocker ready look.  Opt for a long singular pendant, layer on in different lengths, or wrap around your wrists.  I’m not saying it’s going to replace praying in a pew, but it certainly can’t hurt.

rosary jewelery1. Bing Bang Vivienne Cross Earrings, $40, 2. Lynn Ban Diamond Cross Ring, $850, 3. Gorjana Cross Over Cuff, $80,  4. Jennifer Zeuner Horizontal Cross Necklace, $143, 5. Tarina Tarantino Gothic Lucite Skull Rosary Necklace, $99, 6. Ettika Cross Wrap Rosary Bracelet, $75, 7. Wildfox Black Crystal Cross Bracelet, $55.99, 8. Low Luv x Erin Wasson Cage Cross Necklace, $105, 9. House of Harlow 1960 Cross Pendant Necklace, $70

See you in church.

Why Did You Wear That: Better Late Than Never

By |September 28th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Red Carpet Recap, Why Did You Wear That?|

emmys 2012 red carpetMy computer clearly didn’t want my opinion on this year’s Emmy Awards Red Carpet, but I don’t believe for one minute that you guys didn’t.  Afterall, my two cents is more like a million bucks.  So, here we go.  Above are my four favorites from the evening, while below, well…

emmys red carpet 2012So, some curtains, a banana, a gingerbread man, and a mermaid walk into a bar.  Okay, I’ve got nothing, but wouldn’t that have made a great joke?  If you’ve got one, please do share.  While all of these ladies are quite lovely, their red carpet garb was anything but.  I just can’t understand how Emmy nominated actresses can’t afford full length mirrors… or a competent stylist.

And the winner is…
