Friday Frocks: Playing Dress Up

By |October 26th, 2012|Friday Frocks|

candy ghost halloweenOkay, so for any of you other ladies who are doing the ultimate stall on selecting a Halloween costume, I have some quick, easy, and not so slutty ideas for you.  If you’ve opted out of the “costume in a bag” but you don’t want to be a total wet blanket, here are five ideas using the frocks you may already own.  I think these are all so brilliant, I may very well wear one of them myself (okay, I’ve already done the mime thing).

And here are last year’s suggestions too (also genius)!

Why Did You Wear That: Pants Off, Dance Off

By |October 21st, 2012|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

erin heatherton bergdorfWelp, I guess we’re not wearing pants anymore.  Here’s the lovely Erin Heatherton at Bergdorf’s 111th Anniversary party… wearing (or not wearing) a Jason Wu creation (he’s pictured here with her).

Earlier this week, I posted this photo of Lea Michele on WhyDid’s Facebook page.  Also not wearing pants.  And earlier this year, the beautiful Beyonce was also seen wearing a pantless wonder at the Met Gala.  So, is this a thing now?  If so, I’ll dust off my leotards right now.  I’ve been looking for a good reason for a bikini wax.  You think Lady Gaga is laughing somewhere?  I mean, she started it.

Keep your pants on.

Why Did or Why Don’t?: An Overall Bad Idea

By |October 17th, 2012|Why Did or Why Don't?, Why Did You Wear That?|

celebrities in overallsThey were bad the first go ’round, and yet, here they are again trying to make a comeback (if we can even call it that).  Just like the eighties (as a decade), it seems we’re always trying to “bring back” some of the worst trends.  Didn’t we learn our lesson the first time?  It’s like needing to touch the stove just to make sure it’s hot.

Which trend is being rehashed this time?  Overalls or bibs or dungarees or hogwashers.  Call them what you will, but they can only be categorized under, “Bad.” While they made appearances on runways from Altuzarra, Phillip Lim, and Rebecca Minkoff, I don’t think even designers can make this outdated style seem fresh, let alone chic.

overalls trend

Some famous wearers of overalls circa 1990: T-Boz, ‘Nsync, Old MacDonald.  And where are they now?  Let’s learn from our mistakes, ladies, and leave the overalls to the farmer in the dell.

Ya’ll don’t come back now, ya hear?

Why Did You Wear That: Toot It and Boot It

By |October 16th, 2012|Why Did You Wear That?|

women in boots

You know what I like almost as much as cashmere sweaters, puppies, and unicorns?  Boots!  A great pair of boots (or twenty) makes winter and the impending arctic ice storms (almost) bearable.  In addition to the standard short black bootie, knee high boots, and riding boots, there are four trend heavy boots I’ve picked up on for this fall…and you should too.  Toss one (or two, or three, or four) of these styles into your regularly scheduled program to kick things up a bit (had to).

boot trends fall 20121.  MICHAEL Michael Kors Rosalyn Booties, $139.50,  2. Gucci Lace Up Leater Ankle Boots, $760, 3. Sam Edelman Lace Up Platform Booties, $225, 4. Seychelles Suede Lac Up Ankle Boot, $130, 5. Ash Nevada Ankle Boot, $295, 6. Alexander McQueen Studded Leather Ankle Boots, $1,185, 7. Frye Jenna Disc Short Booties, $348, 8. Deena & Ozzy Stud Moto Boot, $89,  9. Sam Edelman Keegan Tassel Booties, $225, 10. Christian Louboutin Pouliche 70 Fringed Suede Boots, $2,195, 11. 7 for All Mankind Mirage Fringe Ankle Boot, $325, 12. Carlos by Carlos Santana Ringo Boot, $149.95, 13. KORS Michael Kors Wayland Bootie, $325, 14. Isabel Marant Dicker Suede Ankle Boots, $565, 15. Dolce Vita JuJu Suede Ankle Boot, $119, 16. Madewell The Barnwood Booties, $198

Monday Mashup: Miley Takes Manhattan

By |October 15th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Monday Mashup, Why Did You Wear That?|

miley cyrus new york skirtOh, Miley.  You can take the girl out of the country… and put her in a cityscape printed skirt, I suppose.  Listen, I think it’s clear how much I love New York, but I don’t even own, dare I say, an I <3 NY t-shirt.  I appreciate her adoration of Gotham, but from what I can deduce from her outfit, she’s a big fan of Batman.  I mean, look at her bustier.  Tell me it doesn’t resemble the Batmobile.  Is she a walking diorama?  Is she acting out her own Batman sequel wherein she swoops in and saves our fair city?  And what would Lady Liberty say?  Bitch stole my look?

So is Miley’s skyline one you’d like to see?
