Weekend Playlist: Turtle Dance Party

By |July 9th, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

Yes, this playlist is called Turtle Dance Party.  Yes, that is also how it is saved in my iTunes.  No, we won’t get into that nickname today.  All you need to know is that this playlist will make even the slowest of turtles wanna come out of his shell.

For the last several weeks this is all I have listened to on the train, during my workouts, painting my nails…. cause my USB cords just keep magically disappearing preventing me from creating anything new… Who am I kidding?  I love this mix.

Weekend Playlist: Happy Fourth of July

By |July 3rd, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

I know what you’re thinking, “Um… It’s SUNDAY! How is this the weekend playlist?”  Perhaps you forgot, my fine friends, that today is actually like Saturday because tomorrow we celebrate the great country that we live in.  The good ol’ US of A.  A country where you can vote, speak freely, and watch as much shitty reality TV as humanly possible.  God bless America!

That said, it’s time to crack open a cold one, prop your feet up by the pool, and crank up the tunes.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a zebra pool float to attend to.  God bless.

Weekend Playlist: Guest DJ

By |June 4th, 2011|Guest Blogger, Weekend Playlist|

Like most, I had a Tuesday for a Monday this week (due to Memorial Day).  I initially thought, “Yay, no way will the start of this week blow like the others do!” But I was dead wrong.  I arrived at work with double the usual amount of work and attempted to make it through my day with RedBull alone.  Half way through the day I started up my iPod on my fav song and decided to let Genius do the rest.  A minute and a half into Le Blorr’s “Oh Christopher” I was smiling ear to ear.  I’d like to share this great mix in hopes that it can have the same effect on you fine people.  If I was a Von Trapp these songs would def be things I’d sing about.

  1. Bastard LoveChild of Rock and Roll– Oh Christopher
  2. Phantograms– Mouthful of Diamonds
  3. Fleetwood Mac– Gypsy
  4. Jonsi– Go Do
  5. Billie Holliday– The Way You Look Tonight
  6. M83– We Own the Sky
  7. Warpaint– Stars
  8. Donora– I Think I Like You
  9. Telepopmusik– Breathe
  10. YACHT– Psychic City (voodoo city)
  11. Ghostland Observatory– Give Me the Beat

Weekend Playlist: Game On

By |May 21st, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

Let’s play a game.  As you may (or may not) know, I love games.  As a matter of fact, after dinner I have every intention of setting up a game of Scrabble on our patio table and lighting up the old fire pit.  This week’s playlist?  The first ten songs that come up on my shuffle.  (You call it lazy… I call it a game).  Ready? Go!

  1. Jay-Z – Empire State of Mind
  2. N.E.R.D. – Truth or Dare
  3. ACDC – Stiff Upper Lip
  4. Fabolous – Baby Don’t Go
  5. Norah Jones – Turn Me On
  6. Prince – 1999
  7. M.I.A. – 10 Dollar
  8. Usher – Bad Girl
  9. Awolnation – Sail
  10. Soft Cell – Tainted Love

I win! Nobody likes a sore loser.

Weekend Playlist: Moody Blues

By |May 15th, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

Sundays for me are meant for relaxing and doing some work to get a head start on the week.  On Sunday evenings, I often sit and write and just let my brain wander.  Sometimes when I write I need to get in the mood.  Usually that requires me to get a little big moody and emotional.  When I look around at our cute little house, pretty garden, and furry animals, it’s hard to feel dark and brooding.  So, I put on some music that stirs up emotion and at times takes me back to painful memories or makes me think about what they’re singing and how that would feel.  Depressing, right?  Well, I’ve found it to be incredibly helpful in the creative process. (And, no, I don’t typically write in full hair and makeup).

  1. Fiona Apple – Criminal
  2. Mary J. Blige – I’m Going Down
  3. Brian McKnight – Anytime
  4. Christina Aguilera – You Lost Me
  5. The Pretty Reckless – Nothing Left to Lose
  6. Lenny Kravitz – Can’t Get You Off Of My Mind
  7. NIN – Hurt
  8. Adele – Someone Like You
  9. Eddie Vedder – Longing to Belong
  10. Portishead – Sour Times
