Weekend Playlist: Hit Me Baby One More Time

By |October 1st, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

This week, let’s take a little walk down memory lane, shall we?  Remember all the songs that we loved so much, but then forgot they ever existed (kind of like butterfly clips and pleather)?  Great as they were, sadly, they were only one hit wonders.  As I scrolled through these songs, It occurred to me that I still love a lot of these songs.  It also occurred to me that some of you young little sprites have probably never even heard of them.  Man, I’m getting old.

  1. Right Said Fred – I’m Too Sexy
  2. Willa Ford – I Wanna Be Bad
  3. Chumbawumba – Tubthumper
  4. Hanson – MMMBop
  5. Dee Lite – Groove Is in the Heart
  6. Vanilla Ice – Ice Ice Baby
  7. Los Del Rio – Macarena
  8. Sir Mix-a-lot – Baby Got Back
  9. Billy Ray Cyrus – Achy Breaky Heart
  10. Wreckx-n Effect – Rump Shaker
  11. 4 Non Blondes – What’s Up
  12. Tag Team – Whoomp There It Is
  13. Skee -Lo – I Wish
  14. The Cardigans – Lovefool
  15. K.P. & Envyi – Swing My Way
  16. SoulDecision – Faded
  17. t.A.T.u. – All the Things She Said
  18. Lumidee – Never Leave You
  19. Eamon – Fuck It
  20. Snow – Informer
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go have a private dance party.

Weekend Playlist: Rapped in Luxury

By |September 24th, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

For as long as I can remember, rap music and fashion have gone hand in hand.  Now, some of you may just be thinking about the obvious mentions of “Air Force Ones” or “Apple Bottom Jeans” but these sneaky little lyrical poets have expensive (and high end) taste.  Some of the nods to top designers may fall on the average listener’s deaf ears– but they aren’t lost on me!  How else do you think they get white girls to dance and squeal?  Mention Prada!!

  1. T-Pain – Rap Song, “…Balenciaga bags cost a couple bucks (hot) is all shawty ever been, Blow a couple racks in Barney’s on that Phillip Lim.”
  2. Kanye West – Throw Some D’s, “Walking down Melrose spot where they sell clothes.  That chick know she’s bad. Can tell by the Chloe bag.  She ain’t no hoodrat.  She ain’t gotta prove that.  I peeped the McCartney’s.  Stella got her groove back.”
  3. LL Cool J – Loungin’, “I heard about your man he like to lace you wit cream.  Dolce Gabbana, Moschino, wit Donna jeans…”
  4. Fabolous – You Be Killin’ Em, “Louboutin shoes, she got too much pride.  Her feet are killin’ her.  I call it shoe-icide.”
  5. Notorious B.I.G. – Hypnotize, “I put hoes in NY onto DKNY.  Miami, DC prefer Versace.  All Philly hoes dough and Moschino.  Every cutie wit a booty bought a Coogi.”
  6. Drake – Fancy, “Say, go Cinderella. Go Cinderella.  Orgasm blush, lipstick, and concealer.”
  7. Lil Kim – No Time, “Yeah, I mama, Miss Ivana.  Usually rock the Prada, sometimes Gabbana.”
  8. Kanye West ft. Nicki Minaj – Monster, “monster Giuseppe heel, that’s the monster shoe.”
  9. Jay-Z – Empire State of Mind, “Caught up in the in crowd.  Now you’re in style.  Anna Wintour gets cold.  In Vogue with your skin out.”
  10. Clipse – When the Last Time, “When they say, “Last call” that don’t mean the night’s ova.  That means it’s time for her to show ya how quick she can hop out those Gucci loafers…”
Who knew rappers have been reading up on their designers?

Weekend Playlist: Labor of Love

By |September 3rd, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

I was going to go ahead and continue the West Virginia theme for this weekend’s playlist, but realized that a Labor Day playlist might be much more suited.  We all work very hard, so it’s great to finally take a moment and just relax.  So enjoy that extended weekend cause you probably won’t catch another day off til Thanksgiving.

  1. The Beatles – Hard Days Night
  2. Donna Summers – She Works Hard For the Money
  3. Todd Rundgren – Bang the Drum All Day
  4. Ludacris – Moneymaker
  5. Barrett Strong – Money (That’s What I Want)
  6. Bruno Mars – Lazy Song
  7. The Offspring – Why Don’t You Get a Job
  8. Calloway – I Wanna Be Rich
  9. AC/DC – What Do You Do For Money Honey
  10. Notorious B.I.G. – Mo Money Mo Problems

I would tell you to go ahead and put your feet up… but it’s time to dance!

Weekend Playlist: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

By |August 20th, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

Every girl loves an official “girls night out” but my very favorite part of these nights is what happens before you even step stillettoed foot out the front door.  The best part of a girls night out is primping in the mirror, sipping on cocktails, and possibly a good bit of girl talk.  Perhaps I’m showing my age, but I almost enjoy a “girls night in” more than out… Either way, having a perfect playlist to kick off the night is crucial.

Cheers!

Weekend Playlist: Mixtape Memories

By |July 16th, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

Since this weekend is clearly all about LOVE, I went ahead and channeled my 6th grade self by making a love song “mixtape.”  Come on, tell me you don’t remember making “tapes” for your crush.  No?  CD’s? Man I’m old…

Anyway, allow yourself to get into the mood with these sweet, sweet love songs.

Gotta go. My pager’s blowing up.
