If yesterday’s cold spell didn’t confirm that it’s officially fall, then I’m not sure what does. Oh, right, the return of pumpkin spiced lattes at Starbucks. The impending frost bite is most certainly on its merry little way and it’s high time you update your autumn wardrobe with this fall’s favored color. Some call it burgundy. Some call it oxblood. I’d like to keep things simple and just stick to calling it wine. Why shouldn’t my closet reflect my favorite beverage? (I drink it for the antioxidants, people). The look can be achieved from head to toe tonal or simply incorporated with a well placed resveratrol rich accessory.

Setting the Mood: The End Is Near

It’s happening. That subtle cooling of the summer air. When I went to take Smitty out to stretch his morning legs the other day, there was a distinct difference in the breeze. Gone was the suffocating stuffiness. Instead I was greeted with a slightly chilled end of summer climate. This only means one thing: fall is fast approaching. So enjoy the last few weeks of strappy sundresses, easy espadrilles, and nearly nonexistent shorts, because very soon, we’ll be bundled up and longing for those steamy summer afternoons.

Setting the Mood: Baby, There’s a Shark in the Water

So apparently it’s everyone’s (except for me) favorite week. What week is that you may ask? Oh, just Shark Week. Why sharks are so intriguing to the general population, I will never completely understand. I don’t see why we don’t have something like “Koala Bear Week” instead. Full disclosure: I have no interest in sharks. They scare me and you aren’t going to find me in a shark cage anytime this century. I’m not even going to lie- just looking up these pictures of sharks made me nervous. But, I aim to please so strap on your scuba tank, churn up the chum, and keep your eyes peeled for Jaws… ’cause I’m getting involved in Shark Week the only way I know how: with some “shark-cessories.” (I just made that up).

Setting the Mood: Keep On Rockin’ Me

I’ve said before that I actually might have been a rockstar in a past life. Maybe I even missed my calling… except for the fact that I’m tone deaf and lacking any and all musical talent. So, scratch that. Doesn’t mean I can’t channel my inner rock goddess in the form of fashion. I mean, we all know that fashion and music go hand in hand (leather and lace). Being a rockstar doesn’t necessarily mean decking yourself out in head to toe leather- though I’m not opposed to such… shall we talk about my sophomore year of highschool homecoming dress? Adding an edgier item to any ensemble can take you from Miley Cyrus to Pat Benatar.

Rock and roll may have died with Nirvana, but the style lives on.

Setting the Mood: Such a Beach.

With temperatures upwards of ninety, It’s been nearly impossible to keep hair frizz free, let alone poker straight. The mere thought of standing in a tiny bathroom with a blowdryer fighting against my natural curl pattern is enough to have me contemplating pulling a Demi a la GI Jane. Seeing as I do not have the bone structure to pull off a buzz cut, I have to deal with my tempestuous tresses in another fashion. I’d like to go ahead and thank the Olsens for making crazy, messy, hair en vogue. I’d then like to give myself a little pat on the back for keeping the messy hair momentum going. Summer is the perfect time to let your hair go wild, much like your weekends. Should you not be freshly emerging from the sea like a golden goddess, there are luckily a few tools that will give you the look of sea salted, windblown mermaid hair.
