Friday Frocks: Go Long

girl superbowl

I had to double check that the Super Bowl had not, in fact, already happened.  (It will happen on February 3rd- I Googled it).  That said, my pun stands.  Anyway, in the cold winter months, dressing can become a bit of a bore.  How many different ways can we wear jeans?  And since some of you can’t get it through your pretty little skulls that leggings are not pants, I have come up with yet another option for comfort without sacrificing style.  The maxi dress is often associated with balmy summer nights and backyard barbecues, but I have found the knit long sleeve, slinky maxi dress to be one of my new favorite winter time staples.  There are endless ways to style this look be it a fur (faux) vest over top, layered in gauzy scarves, with flat motorcycle boots or sky high ankle booties.  The maxi dress is as versatile as it is comfortable.

Friday Frocks: Something’s Off… White

By |March 30th, 2012|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

girl on a bikeRemember the silly little antiquated rule about not wearing white before Memorial Day?  Well, I’m fairly certain once that pesky groundhog gives the go ahead, it’s fair game.  Still not sure if it’s too soon?  Okay, fine.  So you haven’t headed out to the Hamptons yet and the rose has yet to be put on ice and your skin may or may not still resemble a reel of paper.  Got it.  Until then, why not muster up the courage in a shade slightly less stark than pure white?  Slipping into something cream, eggshell, bone, whatever you want to call it, is a great way to transition into summer without looking totally overzealous.  Plus, to be quite honest, it’s much more flattering on 90% of all skin tones.

Why Did You Wear That: Let’s Hear it for the Boys

By |February 19th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Look for Less, Somethin for the fellas, Why Did You Wear That?|

group of guysI realize that an awful lot of time is spent guiding the lovely ladies from fashion disasters to fashion dreams, but what about the men in our lives?  They need some help too, no?  While some of you may have tried (hopefully with some success), perhaps citing a credible source will help in your endeavors to dress up your man.  I mean, I’ve pointed out some of the negatives: sagging pants, terrible jeans, wearing chinos in the champagne room, and an entire “List” dedicated to a whole other mess of style violations.  This week I’ve dug up a few of Hollywood’s hottest hotties and what they’ve been wearing in their down time and when gallivanting around town.

WhyDid Wisdom: Dressing for the Sexes

By |June 11th, 2009|Why Did You Wear That?, WhyDid Wisdom|

This is going to be half fashion advice, half love advice. Brace yourself, I’m not sure you’re going to love what I have to say, but sometimes, the truth hurts.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of eating at the new Hamptons eatery, Georgica. While the food was AMAZING (basically everything on the menu had truffles involved somehow), the crowd wasn’t exactly my speed.  If you’re a woman in her mid twenties to mid thirties, this is probably not the place for you. If you are a guy in your late twenties to early forties, this is your dream come true.  Seated directly to our right, was a table full of girls in their early twenties (if legal at all).  While the guys at our table (my bf included) were pretty happy about this, the women at the table weren’t as enthusiastic. A couple of the girls at their table had on some ridiculous outfits that only a 20 year old could wear (this included a skirt more like a tutu).  There was one that stood out from the group.  She was wearing something very, very simple, but very effective (in catching a male’s attention).  She had on a “Herve-like” black skirt, tight white tank top, and high heels. Someone (female) at the table asked, “Why would you wear that?”  She received a response (male) of, “Because she can.”

This is a classic example of what I have talked about before in regards to males’ and females’ perspective on what makes a good outfit. While we, as women, think that having on the latest and greatest trend makes us stand out, it’s lost on a man.  Women tend to dress for other women, which is totally fine, but don’t get upset when your boyfriend/husband checks out the woman who is dressing for men.  This is going to sound totally sexist, but if you don’t want your man eyeing the other goods, be the hottest one there.  Granted, if your man has a ridiculous wandering eye, you may want to re-evaluate your situation altogether.  I’m just saying that a “typical” male will notice another beautiful woman from time to time (don’t act like you haven’t winked a cute bartender before). I know some women who hate on the ladies who are playing up their assets yet they aren’t playing up their own. Just because you are taken, doesn’t mean you can get lazy. Keep your man on his toes and deck yourself out from time to time. Trust me on this one.
