It’s always so relaxing to go home.  There are no worries, no pressure, nothing to do, and I gain about ten pounds.  Turns out, the fine folks here are not particularly interested in juicing, Pilates, or whether or not hunting gear should be worn to dinner at Applebee’s.  That said, I am looking forward to heading home (to New York), starting a cleanse, and hitting the treadmill– hard.  In the meantime, I played a little game of dress up in a sweater dress of my mother’s that I’ve been eying for several years.  It hung in my closet in New York for a bit, but never got any play because I couldn’t quite figure out when and where I wanted to wear it, so I returned it during my West Coast intermission.  Now seems like the perfect time for this knit confection to make its way back to my closet once again.  Let’s give it another go.  Whaddya say?

Much like fabrics go in and out of vogue (corduroy, velvet, flannel), so do precious metals.  There was a time when one might shudder to see someone wearing yellow gold and then roles reversed and sterling silver was anything but chic.  However, there is another shade of shimmer that is most flattering on all skin tones.  Yellow gold can be too warm while silver and platinum can be too cool, yet rose gold is the perfect in between shade for skin tones of plaster porcelain to dark chocolate.  I’m not sure jewelry could be more feminine than when crafted from rose gold.  I’ve even said that I’d like my next (yes, next) engagement ring to be rose gold.  Hey, nothing wrong with planning ahead (sometimes referred to as “wishful thinking”).  But until my perfect prince charming shows up on his perfect pony with a perfect piece of jewelry for my perfectly manicured ring finger, these rose gold accessories will just have to hold me over (and you too!).

Okay, let’s be serious, I’ve never been accused of being the type of beauty who could stop traffic, but it was fun to pretend.  And sometimes, a pair of fabulous shoes and leather shorts are all it really takes to get the brakes pumping.   I love the contrast of pairing rocker like leather shorts with a clean tailored white blouse.  The contradictions continue with the styling of hair in a tousled top knot and strapping on studded sandals.  You may not stop traffic, per se, but you’re sure to turn a few heads.

Second to the clean crisp contrast of black and white, pastels are my favorite shades in the rainbow.  I think it’s because they remind me of the sky right before sunset (you know, when the sky looks like a big bowl of sherbet).  There’s nothing I love more than a good sunset… well, almost nothing.  And just like clockwork, pastels are making a huge comeback for spring.  From soft mint, to sweet lavender and blushy pinks, all the colors of the evening sky are showing up on everything from denim to handbags.  I love the look of monochromatic head to toe pastels, but if you want to add just a touch to your look, try incorporating accessories or just simply nail polish to remain on trend without feeling like an easter egg.
