Smart Is the New Pretty: Socially Acceptable

By |April 18th, 2012|Smart Is the New Pretty, WhyDid Wisdom|

social media rubiks cubeIt’s funny, one of the first things I do in the morning (other than open my eyes) is look at my phone.  I mean, I need to see what I missed during those seven to eight hours of sleep.  Is the internet still there?  Are you still out there, world??

Would You Wednesday: It’s So Clear

By |April 18th, 2012|Why Did or Why Don't?|

clear plastic heelsWhen putting together the perfect head to toe look, shoes have often been one of my greatest frustrations.  Don’t get me wrong, I love shoes, but why do I never have the right ones?  Not owning the right footwear to put the finishing touches on an otherwise impeccable ensemble, can leave me writhing on my closet floor and contemplating whether I should even bother leaving the house today.  I mean, who needs Wednesday anyway?

Even if you have all the “staple” shoes in your shoe rack, there are still times, when none of them will do.  It’s almost as if you’d be better off going barefoot and trying to call it a “Cinderella.”  What if there was such a thing as an invisible shoe?  Something that would give you those extra five inches of Gisele?  Something that no one would really notice.  Oh, right… there are such shoes…

No, but seriously… do you remember those?  Prom, homecoming?  Anyone?  You’re all a bunch of liars.  I owned not one, but two pairs of clear heels during my time in highschool.  They accompanied me to several formal dances and assisted me in gracing the dancefloor with my sweet, sweet moves.  I’m not exactly sure how shoes most often associated with strippers and working the pole became au courant, but it would appear that they are, yet again, making another attempt at popularity.  Kinda like that head cheerleader who always stole your seat in precalculus.  So, whattya say?  Would you wear these abominations to footwear?

Why Did You Wear That: Oh Hey, Crochet!!

By |April 17th, 2012|Why Did You Wear That?|

crochet poncho tunicWhile crochet is often associated with granola loving tree huggers or the back of your granny’s couch in doily form, it appears to be making quite the comeback and doing so quite stylishly.  So, you can go ahead and put down the Kashi and prunes.  Sure, sure, you could take it up as a new hobby.  There are enough books out there to teach yourself how to craft up your very own crochet creation… but who really has time for that?  Besides, there are plenty or pretty options already available and you won’t have to risk chipping a nail.  Crochet makes for great accessories or a sexy (knotty?) beach coverup.  The open weave gives you just enough skin showing and I mean, talk about ventilation.

Setting the Mood: Strange Stew

By |April 16th, 2012|Setting the Mood|

an eclectic mixEver have one of those days, weeks, months where nothing really seems quite right?  Try as you might to make some sort of sense of things, it’s just not happening.  So, maybe you drank too much wine or stayed out too late or just did anything you could to distract yourself.  At least for a little while.  But like all good things, these distractions can’t last forever and whatever problems were initially there will still be there in the morning… along with a splitting headache.  While fixating on what’s wrong or what’s not working may also not be the answer, you gotta start somewhere.  That’s why collecting a bunch of things and throwing them together like a sort of stew can be a whole lot better than just stewing.  I get the feeling some of the best recipes in the world may have started off as experiments.

Weekend Playlist: Ticket to Ride

By |April 14th, 2012|Weekend Playlist|

Couldn’t make it to Coachella this weekend?  Or maybe large crowds just give you anxiety.  No worries, I’ve gone ahead and taken the liberty of putting together a nice little playlist of some of the artists that will be taking the stage and rocking out.  You get the best of both worlds: you can enjoy the sounds safely in the comfort of your own home without having to even put on your best Coachella outfit!  Sure, it’s not quite the same, but hey, the bathroom line is a whole lot shorter.
