Why Did You Wear That: We’re Doing Denim

By |July 11th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

I realize that the mere mention of “denim shirt” may conjure up images of mullets, Canadian tuxedos, and probably a can of Miller Lite, but in the past few weeks, celebrities and style stars alike have proven that there are several very stylish ways to wear a denim shirt.  While Billy Ray is probably not your style icon, he’s notorious for sporting the style.  Take a deep breath and instead channel your inner Kate Bosworth, who showed us how to do denim on denim like a pro.  Not sure denim on denim is for you?  There’s a plethora of other stylish ways to pair your denim top.  Try one of these or mix and match:

Why Did You Wear That: Tell Me the Truth

By |July 10th, 2012|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?, WhyDid Wisdom|

kirsten smith not photoshoppedThe rampant use of Photoshop has stirred up quite a bit of controversy in the fashion and advertising worlds.  While it may come in handy in some instances, there is a huge difference between removing a blemish or brightening up a photo and giving a woman a total digital diet.  Seeing advertisements, magazine covers, and commercials showing already beautiful women Photoshopped to within an inch of their lives is disheartening to say the least.  Uh, that Adele Vogue cover?  At times, I can’t even tell who this month’s covergirl is.  Is that Kim K or Jessica Alba?  It frustrates me to hear friends talk about their children or nephews/nieces already dealing with body image issues due to the unrealistic pressures that society has put on them to be “perfect.”

That said, when Feel More Better asked me if I’d like to join 50 other influential bloggers to promote the Truth in Advertising message with their “Not Photoshopped” Story Tees, I was more than happy to be a part of it.

For a chance to win a black “Not Photoshopped” Story Tee (like the one I’m wearing), Tweet me using the hashtag #FeelMoreBetter and tell me what you think makes a woman most beautiful.  I will pick one winner next week.  P.S. If you don’t win, you should still head on over and buy one yourself.  For each purchase made, a book will be given to an underprivileged girl!

Setting the Mood: Such a Beach.

By |July 9th, 2012|Setting the Mood|

beachy hairWith temperatures upwards of ninety, It’s been nearly impossible to keep hair frizz free, let alone poker straight.  The mere thought of standing in a tiny bathroom with a blowdryer fighting against my natural curl pattern is enough to have me contemplating pulling a Demi a la GI Jane.  Seeing as I do not have the bone structure to pull off a buzz cut, I have to deal with my tempestuous tresses in another fashion.  I’d like to go ahead and thank the Olsens for making crazy, messy, hair en vogue.  I’d then like to give myself a little pat on the back for keeping the messy hair momentum going.  Summer is the perfect time to let your hair go wild, much like your weekends.  Should you not be freshly emerging from the sea like a golden goddess, there are luckily a few tools that will give you the look of sea salted, windblown mermaid hair.

The List Volume LXXIX

By |July 6th, 2012|The List|

my friend told me i was delusionalAlright, so, I do think these e-cards have gotten a bit (by “a bit” I mean “completely”) excessive, but when I saw this one the other day, I couldn’t help but laugh… and then realize it could have been tailor made for me.  If only I had a unicorn…

sad unicorn

  1. Leaving my ID in the copier at FedEx.  Score for the 19 year old 5’7 blonde who found it.  Enjoy the Amaretto sours.
  2. The insane heatwave that’s happening here in New York.  Every day I wake up thinking there is NO WAY it could be hotter.  Spoiler alert: it is.
  3. Hair in the drain.  I mean, I know it’s mine, but…
  4. The last few times I have gone to Starbucks I merely ordered iced coffee.  They forgot it.  They did not, however, forget the gentleman behind me’s iced skim double shot hold the water two pumps of vanilla I’ve stopped listening ’cause you’re too high maintenance frappuccino.
  5. Delusional people.

whydid unicorn

  1. Having the most ridiculous dreams for yourself and actually saying them out loud (try it).
  2. Black diamond studs.
  3. The Sultra Bombshell.  My girlfriends have been raving and now I see why.
  4. Fun fact: sometimes I walk around the city with no actual destination and listen to my iPod pretending it’s my personal movie soundtrack.
  5. Delusional people.

May your weekend be full of glitter, unicorns, and giggles.  Now, if you don’t mind, my unicorn is thirsty.  It’s hot out here.

Why Did You Wear That: Stop Traffic

By |July 5th, 2012|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

kirsten smith nycOkay, let’s be serious, I’ve never been accused of being the type of beauty who could stop traffic, but it was fun to pretend.  And sometimes, a pair of fabulous shoes and leather shorts are all it really takes to get the brakes pumping.   I love the contrast of pairing rocker like leather shorts with a clean tailored white blouse.  The contradictions continue with the styling of hair in a tousled top knot and strapping on studded sandals.  You may not stop traffic, per se, but you’re sure to turn a few heads.
