Setting the Mood: Baby, There’s a Shark in the Water

By |August 13th, 2012|Setting the Mood|

skarksSo apparently it’s everyone’s (except for me) favorite week.  What week is that you may ask?  Oh, just Shark Week.  Why sharks are so intriguing to the general population, I will never completely understand.  I don’t see why we don’t have something like “Koala Bear Week” instead.  Full disclosure:  I have no interest in sharks.  They scare me  and you aren’t going to find me in a shark cage anytime this century.  I’m not even going to lie- just looking up these pictures of sharks made me nervous.  But, I aim to please so strap on your scuba tank, churn up the chum, and keep your eyes peeled for Jaws… ’cause I’m getting involved in Shark Week the only way I know how: with some “shark-cessories.”  (I just made that up).

Why Did You Wear That: Not Your Grandma’s Lace

By |August 12th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

doilyToo often, crochet is associated with that of the decorative little doilies on the back of grandma’s couch.  And while that may be the case for some of us, let’s hope it’s the exception rather than the rule.  This summer, there is no knit more noteworthy than that of crochet as demonstrated by these three darlings.  Whether you are an uptown girl, downtown diva, or just happen to be hanging around, there is a look for you.

Would You Wednesday: Collar ID

By |August 8th, 2012|Why Did or Why Don't?, Why Did You Wear That?|

caller idThere are a lot of trends that come and go that I have zero interest in participating in.  One such is the emergence of “collar necklaces.”  These are exactly what you think they are:  necklaces posing as collars.  This is one of those trends that has only just begun, yet I’m already annoyed with it… kind of like neon was for summer.  So anyway, I’m pretty sure the only people who should be wearing fake collars are priests… or on the other side of that coin people who’re into some Christian Grey freaky stuff… but what do you think?

collar necklaces

1. Alexa’s Mesh Collar Necklace, $24.99, 2. Marc by Marc Jacobs Collars and Cuffs Silver-Tone Necklace, $330, 3. RJ Graziano Pearl Glass Collar Necklace, $52.50, 4. BP Chain and Rhinestone Collar Necklace, $205. Forever 21 Metallic Paisley Collar Necklace, $10.80

And much like a blocked call, this is a trend that I will just ignore.

Why Did You Wear That: Black and White and Anything but Boring

By |August 6th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

black and white rachel bilson emmy rossum sophia bushI have collected quite a bit of clothing during my time on this planet, and while I do have pops of pink and pretty patterns, I always seem to be drawn back to the basics of black or white.  Safe?  Maybe.  I prefer to call it classic, contemporary, even minimalistic.  Pairing black and white might seem obvious or boring, but if done with well tailored interesting pieces, it is anything but your average cater waiter uniform.  Incorporating different textures like lace, leather, satin, or chiffon, will take your look from flat to fully dimensional.  Trust me, no one will mistake you for the hostess at your local Olive Garden.

When you invest in quality pieces, you can mix and match them for all new looks that are anything but boring.

Why Did You Wear That: Cat’s Out of the Bag

By |August 5th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

vanessa hudgens leopard shortsRemember last week, when some lovely ladies schooled us in how to do leopard right?  Well, seems Vanessa Hudgens isn’t reading WhyDid.  What?!?!  Had she caught up on her reading, she surely wouldn’t have left the house– let alone allowed the paparazzi to catch her– wearing this little get up.  Now, I’m not trying to be catty (yes, pun intended) and typically I think V Hudge is a total glamour puss, but this is just  cat-astrophic (I’ll be here all week).  The shorts aren’t the most flattering shape for her figure, the boots only shorten her stems, and that cape (?) is just unnecessary.  Her hair looks great though.

Here kitty, kitty…
