Would You Wednesday: I’m Slipping, I’m Falling, I Can’t Get Up.

By |August 1st, 2012|Why Did or Why Don't?, Why Did You Wear That?|

bunny slippersWhile there’s nothing quite like strapping on the strappiest of stilettos for an evening out on the town, a wise woman knows that there are certain times, she’s just got to be sensible.  In New York, this time is usually the commute from home base to final destination.  Do you have any idea what subway grates will do to your Jimmy Choos?  And while in most other cities, your high heels need only make it from front door to front seat of your car, there are still times when you must  give your poor tired toes a break.

Sure, in the summer there are flat sandals, and we’ve been offered the option of ballet flats for fall, but what if those aren’t really your style?  Ballet flats aren’t for everyone, afterall.  So, grab your silk smoking jacket and a pipe, because this year, the smoking shoe or “house slipper” has made a comeback and you don’t have to be Hugh Hefner to pull it off.  From Christian Louboutin to Forever 21, you can pick up the look in a variety of styles and plethora of prices.

So, would you trade in your Tory Burch for smoking slippers?

Why Did or Why Don’t: Cross Country

By |July 25th, 2012|Why Did or Why Don't?|

uhaul moving vanTwo years ago (almost to the day), I followed my heart across the country from New York to Los Angeles.  Turns out I’d actually left my heart in Manhattan without even knowing it.  So, here I go again… moving my life (in 38 boxes) back to the Big Apple.  Next time I fall in love, I’ll keep it local.

Would you relocate for love?

Would You Wednesday: Purple Pooch?

By |July 11th, 2012|Why Did or Why Don't?|

whydid alessandra ambrosio ombre dogSo, here’s a photo of Alessandra Ambrosio strolling around town with her precious pooch… posing as her personal My Little Pony.  Pretty sure the last lunatic I documented doing this was Aubrey O’Day.  You want to be in the same boat with Ms. O’Day, Alessandra?  No?  Me neither.  I know I want a unicorn and all, but I’m not about to get a horn surgically implanted on Smitty‘s head.  Okay, fine, I might have clipped in some rainbow hair extensions once…

smitty gets rainbow hair extensionsbut the alternative would have been me chalking his hair like mine.  Since I didn’t want PETA calling, I’m fairly certain the alternative (clip in extensions) was the right move.  A few Pupparonis and all was forgiven.  He wasn’t left to walk around being the butt of all the bitches’ jokes at the dog park.  The same probably can’t be said for Alessandra’s poor pooch.  So what do we think, people?  Okay to color your pet to suit your mood?

Would You Wednesday: Need a Lift?

ash wedge cool sneakersAsh Cool Wedge Sneakers, $235 (the black and white seem to be sold out everywhere)

Remember when I blogged about the ever growing trend of celebrities sporting sneakers?  Well, I went ahead and took my own advice and got myself some kick ass kicks.  I mean, it’s very rare that we, ladies, win out.  Something that is in style as well as comfortable?  Yes, please!  I like the look of super casual sneakers with an ultra feminine frock or short shorts.  (I love contradictions, remember?).

So, I got a pair of these Ash wedge sneakers, but have yet to take them on their maiden voyage .  I can’t decide if I love them or loathe them.  From the front, I adore them… but then I turn to the side… ash cool wedge sneakersand I kind of abhor them.

The wedge makes me feel like I’m wearing lifts in my shoes… kinda like Tom Cruise.  I’m just wondering: does the wedge make a shoe that should be so nonchalant look altogether fussy?  Shall we just stick to good ol’ fashion flat sneakers, like my Reebok Dibellos?  They have been cool for the past 125 years, afterall.  To me, putting a wedge in an athletic shoe is kind of like pretending Drake never played Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi.  But that’s just me.  Thoughts?

Play ball!

Would You Wednesday: Ugh. UGG.

By |May 30th, 2012|Why Did or Why Don't?|

ugg bridalA lot of laughter with mom and a little too much wine left me a bit hungover the other day.  Just about the time I started to feel better, you know around 5pm when the whole day has been a wash, my dear friend sent me this link.  All the feelings of nausea returned.  Plus,  I got the shakes.  WHAT?!  It would appear that UGG is capitalizing on the billion dollar bridal market by designing their own offering in wedding day footwear.  When is this going to stop?

bridal shoesIt started off innocently enough with brides choosing comfort over couture by wearing tasteful flats and delicately adorned sandals.  Not my cup of tea, but understandable.  Then all hell broke loose and any and all rules went out the window.  Brides started wearing Converse, cowboy boots, and TOMS under their gorgeous gowns.  The days of elegance, glamor, and femininity are long gone.  Modern brides seem to be trying to come up with new and clever ways to make their mothers (not to mention grandmothers) grimace.  What’s wrong with a classic pump or bejeweled heel?

What’s next?  Crocs?  Oh wait…

groomsmen in crocsCan you still get that annulled?  Well, I guess you guys’ve thought of everything, haven’t you?  I remember feeling bummed that I might have to wear flats on my own wedding day, so I can’t even begin to fathom wanting to wear anything less than five inches and fabulous on my stroll down the aisle towards eternal bliss.  So, my question is:  Are we doing this?
