Why Did You Wear That: Are belts men’s handbags?

By |December 2nd, 2008|Somethin for the fellas, Why Did You Wear That?|

Last night we went to Malini Murjani’s (www.malinim.com) trunkshow at Norwood. She designs really beautiful exotic handbags as well as exquisite belts.

One of my very dear guy friends had his heart set on a really fantastic leather belt with one of a kind buckle and amazing metal details. The belt was a little too short for him, but he was really desperate for this belt.

I started to wonder… since guys really don’t have the opportunity to accessorize like girls, are belts their equivalent?

A pretty much standard outfit for a stylish man in New York City consists of jeans (ideally dark and straight leg), button down, blazer, and nice shoes. This really doesn’t leave them a lot of room to express themselves. My handsome (and single, ladies) friend was essentially wearing just that. God love him, he was wearing distressed True Religions though, which he explained was because he was trying to add a little something different to his otherwise standard outfit. (I then made him promise that we would burn these jeans this weekend, which he agreed to).

So that’s when I realized, belts are men’s handbags.

Moschino, $175

King Baby Studio, $175

Or you can purchase individual belt buckles at belts.com

Why Did You Wear That: Somethin’ for the fellas.

By |December 2nd, 2008|Somethin for the fellas, Why Did You Wear That?|

There is basically only one thing that enrages me more than leggings worn as pants.  TRUE RELIGION JEANS on a man. Here is a story regarding these heinous pants:

Once upon a time, a young Princess met a very handsome, charming, smart, funny man. He was basically everything she had ever hoped for in her Prince. However, things were almost over before they even began.

She was so excited for her first “real date” with this lad. She was sure this was it. But lo and behold, he showed up wearing…. dun dun dunnnn… True Religion Jeans! The princess was devastated. Now what? Her Prince would NEVER wear True Religions!!

Luckily, her Prince Charming was smart enough to realize when it comes to fashion, the Princess knows best. Therefore, he allowed her into his closet and she banished all of his True Religion jeans from the kingdom. Then they lived happily ever after.

THE END.

**This is a true story. Names have been changed (okay, omitted) to protect those involved.

See, I’m not the only one. Do yourself a favor, guys. Just get rid of your True Religions now. You don’t want to scare away your dates. I know, they were $300. Consider this your punishment for buying them in the first place. Look on the bright side, at least you’ll get a second date.

So not sexy.

You’ve been warned.

Why Did You Wear That: Baby, it’s cold outside.

By |December 2nd, 2008|Why Did You Wear That?|

An ode to all my New York City and Northern honeys. I woke up to 27 degrees this morning. I was half tempted to call in sick so that I didn’t have to leave my cozy heated apartment (and cuddly puppy dog). But then again… I’m half tempted to do that every day… Anyway…

It may be cold, but you can still look hot (it was too easy). Bring out the inner snow bunny in you. Below some picks for stylish and functional cold weather accessories.

Eugenia Kim hat, $117. (Now this will keep you warm!)

MARC by Marc Jacobs beret, $159

Alright, who am I kidding? This isn’t going to keep you particularly warm, but you will look absolutely darling wearing it. (more…)

Why Did You Wear That: Give me… Givenchy!

By |December 2nd, 2008|Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

Givenchy’s Fall 2008 runway show was enough to make the biggest wallflower want to get up on a table and break a guitar. It was chocked full of leather, chains, lace, and edge.  The overall theme was rocker chic. Below are three of my favorite looks and how you can get them.

A look from Givenchy’s Fall 2008 runway show. This look is sexy yet tough.

Blouse from Forever21, $22.80

Blank shiny PANT at Urban Outfitters, $68

(My favorite part about these is that they are actual PANTS- with pockets and fly!)

Steve Madden, Clubbin Bootie, $129.95

Girl Crush: Lily Love

By |December 2nd, 2008|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

It would be easy to lump model Lily Donaldson in with the rest of the blondes out there with her Goldilocks looks, but she brings a little spice with her sugar…

She mixes her feminine polished looks with the edge of rocker chic. The mixture of the hard and soft really makes her stand out and gives her a unique style. It is sexy and sweet all in one.
