Why Did You Wear That: Black and White and Anything but Boring

By |August 6th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

black and white rachel bilson emmy rossum sophia bushI have collected quite a bit of clothing during my time on this planet, and while I do have pops of pink and pretty patterns, I always seem to be drawn back to the basics of black or white.  Safe?  Maybe.  I prefer to call it classic, contemporary, even minimalistic.  Pairing black and white might seem obvious or boring, but if done with well tailored interesting pieces, it is anything but your average cater waiter uniform.  Incorporating different textures like lace, leather, satin, or chiffon, will take your look from flat to fully dimensional.  Trust me, no one will mistake you for the hostess at your local Olive Garden.

When you invest in quality pieces, you can mix and match them for all new looks that are anything but boring.

Why Did You Wear That: Cat’s Out of the Bag

By |August 5th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

vanessa hudgens leopard shortsRemember last week, when some lovely ladies schooled us in how to do leopard right?  Well, seems Vanessa Hudgens isn’t reading WhyDid.  What?!?!  Had she caught up on her reading, she surely wouldn’t have left the house– let alone allowed the paparazzi to catch her– wearing this little get up.  Now, I’m not trying to be catty (yes, pun intended) and typically I think V Hudge is a total glamour puss, but this is just  cat-astrophic (I’ll be here all week).  The shorts aren’t the most flattering shape for her figure, the boots only shorten her stems, and that cape (?) is just unnecessary.  Her hair looks great though.

Here kitty, kitty…

Why Did You Wear That: Call of the Wild

By |July 29th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

You know, leopard print tends to get a bit of a bad rap… and I guess I can see why.  When used in excess, it can leave a lady looking more like a tramp.  However, leopard doesn’t have to be all hookers and Housewives.  It also doesn’t need to be condoned to only the evening prowl.  Leopard is kind of a new neutral and when paired with the right pieces, it can actually look down right feminine.  Don’t believe me?  Here are three different ladies showing us three different ways to get a little catty in the right way:

Why Did You Wear That: Who Wears Short Shorts?

When you think of shorts, you probably automatically envision a casual day running errands or just hanging out in the backyard (ha, backyard).  Rarely, would you think of shorts as formal, but as of late, shorts have taken a turn towards formal.  Celebrities have opted for shorts on the red carpet and have dressed up even their casual cut offs with feminine blouses.  So, next time you’re staring into the depths of your closet trying to figure out what exactly to wear, don’t forget about your abbreviated pants (also known as shorts).  Dressed up with heels and a sexy blouse, you have another option for a warm weather evening look that is anything but expected.

Fugly Friday: Pants Optional

lady gaga no pants

We get it.  You’re Lady Gaga, but what say you we put on some pants?  A leotard on stage or at aerobics class is one thing (I mean, ask Beyonce- girl can work a leotard).  I get that these post Jazzercise get ups that Gaga has been donning as of late are vast improvements from the days of the hair dress and pearl body paint, but come on, put your pants on, Lady!

To say I have never worn a leotard out somewhere other than dance class would be a complete and utter lie, but I wear them with … pants.  And you can bet your ass I’m wearing a leotard as I type this.  It’s something I’m trying out.  It’s called “method writing.”  I’m just hoping that one of these days, Ms. Gaga will consider joining the rest of us in the good ol’ fashion tradition of wearing pants.

What do you think about Lady G’s pantless party?
