Gift Guide: Techsessories, Gifts for the Tech Obsessed

I bet you’re reading this from your phone… or tablet… or laptop. We are a society that is totally tech obsessed and while many of us could and should do a digital detox, the chances of that happening are less likely than me retiring my crop tops any time before I turn forty. I, myself, basically work from my phone, iPad, or MacBook and most of the time I’ve got at least two of these items with me. Fortunately and unfortunately, I can work from just about anywhere there’s wifi and this seems to be an ever growing trend. When I’m taking pictures of my perfect bowl of ramen at Momfuku, I’m working. When I’m switching between ten Instagram accounts, I’m clocking those hours. Even posting on Facebook adds to my paycheck. Having said that, I’ve become a bit of an expert on all things that make working on the fly a little bit easier and a lot more stylish.

Gift Guide: Hostess Gifts, Thanks for Coming.

Ugly sweater party season is upon us. I am fortunate enough to have wonderful friends who know better than to invite me to such a terrifying event. They also know a lot of other things, like how to throw great parties. One of the most gracious gifts friends can give us during the holidays is opening up their homes (whether a massive mansion or teeny studio) to host a festive get together. In a city like New York, friends fast become second families and there’s a reason things like “Friendsgiving” exist. Something my mother taught me from the time I was invited to slumber parties was to never arrive empty handed. I diligently practice this form of social etiquette to this day and always arrive bearing gifts, whether they be basic bottles of wine or a bags full of glowsticks. Gift Guide: Who’s Your Daddy?

We spend an awful lot of time shopping for ourselves and perusing available goods online- something I like to refer to as “market research.” We know exactly when the next Kenzo collection drops down to the date and we can recite each color by name that the Balenciaga Velo is available in. And while most dads are just thankful to be thought of (mom’s the one who always gets all the credit, afterall), remember to choose wisely because he knows exactly how much you spent on those engraved beer steins and he thinks it’s absolutely ridiculous. And no, he doesn’t want another f&^#ing tie.

Not only is Father’s Day a great day to indulge dad in something that he’s been eyeing at Home Depot, it’s also an opportune time to replace his ratty socks, holey undershirts (which I take for myself), and embarrassing choices in footwear. I may very well be purchasing the polar bear trunks from Vilebrequin for Dick, seeing as I have a childhood memory of his Speedo always going missing and my mom not having the slightest clue where it might have gone. Must be like disappearing socks in the dryer. Whether pops is sporty, handy, or a classic Don Draper, now’s the time to show your appreciation for those braces and his breadwinning.

With Mother’s Day being this Sunday, it’s probably time to online shop for someone other than yourself. While breakfast in bed and a card with the outline of your hand drawn in crayon may have passed as an angsty pre-teen, it’s time to step your game up. Basically, it boils down to buying mom something you know she probably wants, but wouldn’t dare ask for because that’s what moms do. One of the best parts about being in a relationship other than having someone to keep your feet warm is the level of intimacy that can be reached. I’m not sure all guys understand that the longer you’re with a woman and the more she trusts you, the hotter things can (and will) get. While I’m a firm believer that things should be steamy year round, even in the chilly winter months, it’s nice to have a day especially dedicated to pure romance.
