Why Did You Wear That: Fall in Line

By |September 1st, 2009|Why Did You Wear That?|

It seems that fall has decided to pop in a little early this year.  The temperatures have dropped and there’s that familiar chill in the air.  Luckily, I get cold when I travel so I happen to have one of my favorite Bendel’s cashmere cardis with me. Otherwise, I would be freezing and unable to leave the house.

So,this first chilly fall day has got me  compiling my fall shopping list.  I’m no Anna Wintour, but here’s my September issue.

Over the Knee Boots– whether you go for a flat or a high heeled version, they will add a sexy edge to jeans and flirty dresses.

flat otk

Pour La Victoire Malorie boot, $375

co op boot

Barney’s Co-op Over the Knee Buckle Boot, $740

Leather Jacket– if you didn’t  grab up a leather jacket for early spring, now’s the time to do so.  For fall they are a little more rocker chic and I would stick to black or perhaps a luggage color.

 joie

Joie Ailey Leather Moto Jacket, $689

Something Plaid– whether it’s a plaid shirt  or just an accessory, plaid is making a come back. Just don’t go plaid crazy. One plaid at a time.

 plaid

Forever21 Snap Button Plaid Shirt, $11.50

Leggings- Oh, leggings. You aren’t going anywhere are you?  Luckily, this season they are available in a multitude of styles.  Two stand outs are denim leggings and leather leggings.  Just PLEASE remember to cover your hoo- ha no matter what style you choose. Leggings still are NOT pants.

dvf

Diane Von Furstenberg Leggy Leather Leggings, $565

juicy

Juicy Couture Denim Legging, $88

Boyfriend Blazer– Cute alternative to a jacket on a brisk day.  Pair it with skinny pants and a pretty blouse.

aqua

Aqua Boyfriend Blazer, $88

The New LBD– the little black dress will never go out of style, but look for new details this fall. Whether it be asymmetrical details or a mesh inset this season’s LBD’s have a little more edge. Dress it up with heels, dress it down with your leather jacket and boots.

bebe

Bebe One Shoulder Mesh Dress, $48

Destroyed Denim– while I think the boyfriend jean will fade out as the temperatures drop, skinny destroyed denim will continue to remain strong.  They will look great with a sexy T and booties.

siwy

Siwy Hannah Slim Crop Jeans, $198

It may be getting cooler, but you’ll still look hot with a few of these items in your arsenal.

Just Checking In…

By |August 31st, 2009|Uncategorized|

Oh, how I miss New York.  While the air here smells better and things are a little more relaxed, there are times when I miss smog and angry commuters.  So, I decided I would check in on my fair city… just to see what it was up to…

Here is where I’d like to go ahead and throw out the, “Illegal Use of Shorts Card.”  There comes a time in a woman’s life where she must come to terms with the fact that short shorts are no longer her “thing.”  Moving right along, her shirt seems to be falling off or perhaps she didn’t realize that the shoulder part goes on her actual shoulders. While side boob is the new cleavage, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.  As far as the earrings, ya hear me knockin’? Well, let me in!

wdywt2

You’ve got your jazz hands up, don’t you?  I do.  I can’t tell if she’s a snazzy flight attendant for a new trendy airline or if she snuck into my collection of dance recital costumes from childhood.  Either way…

wdywt

No, Donna Martin isn’t making promotional appearances. However, it does seem that someone is in the wrong zipcode… as well as decade.

wdywt4

I’m not sure what’s going on here. I wish we could have gotten a frontal view of this little getup.  All I know is that she’s not smiling and neither am I.

wdywt5

I don’t care whether this young lady is a go-go dancer or not. Her outfit is completely WRONG.   I can’t tell if she was going for naughty school girl or table cloth. I’m leaning towards the latter because she has rolls in a couple of places that you normally should not. Pass the butter, please.

wdywt6

Houston, we have a problem.  I don’t know if she’s in the army, navy, or girlscouts, but in any case, I’m hoping her outfit goes AWOL.

wdywt7

The original GPS.  Garmin, what?

wdywt8

She took high waisted jeans to a whole new level.  Did she learn nothing from that unfortunate Jessica Simpson incident?

wdywt9

I am without words… and well, that never happens.

wdywt10

Psst! I can see your bra! Oh? That was intentional? Well, you also forgot your pants. Oh? That’s a dress?

Oy, I think I’ll stay a little longer in WV.

WhyDid Wisdom: A Few Things…

By |August 27th, 2009|WhyDid Wisdom|

So clearly, I have had a bit of extra time on my hands these days.  This has gven me the opportunity to conjure up some deep thoughts…

JessicaSimpson623371

  • Did I NOT get the memo that cowboy boots are making a comeback?  I remember hussing around Manhattan in tiny short shorts and cowboy boots circa 2005, but that was courtesy of the Dukes of Hazard remake (you have NO idea how much it hurts me to give Jessica Simpson credit for anything). Anyway, I’ve seen more than a couple young ladies strutting the streets wearing cowboy boots recently.  Now that summer finally arrived and temperatures are nearing the 90’s, there’s nothing I’m less interested in sticking my foot in than a bulky leather boot. P-U.  For the record, the original Daisy (Catherine Bach) didn’t even wear cowboy boots.

Now that’s how short shorts are done!

  • I keep seeing this commercial for Maybelline’s SuperStay 24 Hour Makeup. Um, really?  I personally do not wear foundation because I don’t like it, but for the life of me I can not understand why anyone needs to have their makeup stay on their face for 24 CONSECUTIVE HOURS!!! Ever heard of letting your skin breathe?  Facewash? Acne?

  • Dear Carrie Bradshaw- I just rewatched the Sex and the City movie with my mom last night (don’t judge me) and I have a bone to pick with you.  Other than the fact that you all overacted your characters, you also gave girls across the country “false hope.” Remember when your sweet sweet assistant Louise (from St. Louis) reminded you to go grab your $450 Manolo’s from the apartment before they changed the locks? And you corrected her that they were $525?  Um, well… girls around the globe probably saved up their funds in hopes of slipping on these shoes and finding their own Mr. Big… until they got to the store and the shoes were actually $945!!!

Whew! I feel better.

WhyDid Wisdom: Getting Back to my Roots

By |August 25th, 2009|WhyDid Wisdom|

west-virginia

I have again gone missing. Apologies.  However, I think I have a pretty good reason this time.  Perhaps, something even you can relate to.

Friends, I am suffering from my very own “quarter life crisis.”  When I told my father about this, he thought I had made it up.  After sending him article after article chronicling this ever growing epidemic, he started to understand.

After becoming part of the 10% back in May, I enjoyed my summer vacation.  However, now that people are heading back to school and Hamptons shares are winding down, I couldn’t help but feel like I should be heading back to something as well. Add to that a rough patch in my fairytale romance and I needed to head somewhere warm and I don’t mean South Beach.  I needed some good old fashioned TLC.  I needed to remember what normal looks like.

New York is an amazing place to live, but can really get to you if you don’t take a break every once in a while (St. Tropez does not count).  I am lucky to have an amazing family that has kept me grounded and kept me from forgetting my morals and losing track of my priorities.

So this is why I decided I needed to get back to my roots (and no, I’m not talking about my haircolor- though my grandmother did so sweetly point out that my hair is “darker” than normal).  I am enjoying front porches, lazy days, old friends, and fresh air.

I’ll be back to the city soon, recharged and refocused, but in the meantime, there are a lot of  fashion faux pas to go around.  Hey, I said it was normal here, not fashionable!

Tan Towel:

Fight the white with tan towel. Each individually wrapped towelette is saturated with a self-tan formula guaranteed to leave a streak free beautiful glow.  Easy application puts even the most novice applicator at ease. I recommend a second application 4 hours following your initial application for prime color.

Pasty is not tasty, so let your bronze goddess out.
