Friday Frocks: Frock Optional

By |June 8th, 2012|Friday Frocks|

baby rompersThis shouldn’t be news to you, but I love rompers.  If there’s a romper on the rack, most likely it’s going to end up in my closet.  Sure they’re really annoying when you have to use the ladies’ room and not the best choice when going in for a Brazilian, but they are one step dressing (Why do you think babies like them so much?).  Which leads me to my point… Frocks have been getting all the attention.  Rompers are all like, “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.”  Well, fact is, rompers are my Marcia.  And this week, they will be yours as well.

Would You Wednesday: Ugh. UGG.

By |May 30th, 2012|Why Did or Why Don't?|

ugg bridalA lot of laughter with mom and a little too much wine left me a bit hungover the other day.  Just about the time I started to feel better, you know around 5pm when the whole day has been a wash, my dear friend sent me this link.  All the feelings of nausea returned.  Plus,  I got the shakes.  WHAT?!  It would appear that UGG is capitalizing on the billion dollar bridal market by designing their own offering in wedding day footwear.  When is this going to stop?

bridal shoesIt started off innocently enough with brides choosing comfort over couture by wearing tasteful flats and delicately adorned sandals.  Not my cup of tea, but understandable.  Then all hell broke loose and any and all rules went out the window.  Brides started wearing Converse, cowboy boots, and TOMS under their gorgeous gowns.  The days of elegance, glamor, and femininity are long gone.  Modern brides seem to be trying to come up with new and clever ways to make their mothers (not to mention grandmothers) grimace.  What’s wrong with a classic pump or bejeweled heel?

What’s next?  Crocs?  Oh wait…

groomsmen in crocsCan you still get that annulled?  Well, I guess you guys’ve thought of everything, haven’t you?  I remember feeling bummed that I might have to wear flats on my own wedding day, so I can’t even begin to fathom wanting to wear anything less than five inches and fabulous on my stroll down the aisle towards eternal bliss.  So, my question is:  Are we doing this?

The List Volume LXXV

By |May 25th, 2012|The List|

what goes upFor every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

  1. Airlines deciding to just “cancel” your flight.  Can they do that?  Wait.  I know the answer.
  2. Unsubscribing from emails only to receive another email to confirm that you’ve unsubscribed.
  3. Facebook’s new “star” feature where you can be updated of your favorite people’s activity… because once I was through “starring” people and only had TEN marked, I realized that I shouldn’t really have Facebook at all.
  4. Angry drunk dials.  Let’s be serious, all drunk dials are bad, but angry ones are the worst.
  5. Gaining five pounds being home with mom.

  1. Having to feign sadness when a friend cancels plans… cause you’re already in PJ’s and half a carton into Ben and Jerry’s Chunky Monkey.
  2. Receiving an email so good that you are left laughing like a lunatic.  Alone.
  3. Having ten people in my life that I care enough about to want to know every move they make, every second of every day.
  4. Drunk showers.
  5. Being home with mom and realizing that your relationship has gone from simply mother/daughter to mother/daughter/best of friends.

That concludes today’s lesson.

Friday Frocks: Ray of White

By |May 25th, 2012|Friday Frocks|

girl in white dress beachAlong with the official kick off of summer, Memorial Day is also the day that white dresses get the “go ahead” green light (according to some).  While white dresses are most often associated with weddings, christenings, and clam bakes, in my book, a Tuesday is as good a day as any to wear a stark white dress.  There is just something so fresh, so innocent and dare I say virginal about slipping into a snow toned frock?  We’ve already worked up the courage with off white and now it’s go time, ladies.  Get out your Tide To Go pens, self tanner, and biggest and brightest smile.  Summer’s here and the living is easy.

white summer dresses1. Forever 21 Matelasse Cap Sleeve Dress, $10.50, 2. Nightcap Clothing Sunset Strapless Dress, $143, 3. T by Alexander Wang Cutout Crepe and Jersey Dress, $115, 4. Beauty Buzz: Prime Time

By |May 24th, 2012|Beauty Buzz|

smeared makeupA crucial step you may be missing (as was I for the majority of my makeup wearing life) is something that happens before the rouge, before the mascara, and even before your foundation.  This very imperative, but often neglected step is the application of a little something called primer.  Primer should be applied the moment you are done moisturizing so as to “lock” in your moisturizer and create the smoothest “canvas” possible.  I know, I know.  It’s starting to get steamy outside, so the last thing you feel like doing is adding another layer to your fabulous face.  You’ve worked awfully hard getting that face painted to perfection, so applying a primer to prevent your face from melting off seems like a worthy cause, no?  And here’s the best part: many primers have added benefits like built in SPF or anti-aging ingredients.

best makeup primers1. Cover FX Skinprep FX Nourishing Foundation Primer & Anti-Aging Serum, 2.Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, 3. NARS Pro-Prime Multi Protect Primer, SPF 30, 4. Amazing Cosmetics Anti Aging Face Primer, 5. Murad Hybrids Skin Perfecting Primer Matte Finish

You’re in your prime, lady.
