Setting the Mood: Love and Hip Hop

By |November 18th, 2013|Setting the Mood|

90s hip hop r&b fashionWhile the 90’s grunge look has its modern day resurgence, let us not forget that during that very same time, there was another musically inspired fashion movement happening simultaneously.  On the other end of the spectrum of looking halfway homeless and heroin chic, hip hop and R&B stars were living the luxurious life in leathers, furs, and overall excess.  Always designer driven, street style is still just as in love with labels today as it was twenty some odd years ago.  For added interest this go round, grunge and hip hop glamour can be cleverly combined to create the ultimate 90’s throwback.

Weekend Playlist: I Love the 90’s…ish

By |January 12th, 2013|Weekend Playlist|

justin timberlake britney spears tlc destinys childSure, sure, Timberlake stole the headlines this week after “hinting” at the release of new music, but as giddy as that made us, let’s not forget all the other excitement happening for children of the 90’s.  I mean, Destiny’s Child reuniting for the Superbowl?  Britney Spears recording a new album?  A TLC reunion tour complete with hologram?

This is almost too much for me to handle.  It’s like Christmas came late this year.  To celebrate the return of the 90’s (and early 2000’s), I have compiled some of  the best early songs from our re-emerging artists.  I threw in a little Christina (because I love her) and Jessica Simpson (I know…) for good measure.  Do you have ANY idea what used to happen when “Genie in a Bottle” came on while I was cruising in my red Volkswagen Cabriolet?  It’s probably better that you don’t.

We’re ready.

Weekend Playlist: The Anti-Valentine

By |February 4th, 2012|Weekend Playlist|

anti valentines daySo, let’s say you’re not into the love fest that is Valentine’s Day.  Nothing wrong with that (and you are not alone, my friend).  Some of my most fun Valentine’s Days were not spent lamenting love, but cutting loose with friends instead.  Whether that included cupcakes and sappy rom-com’s at home or dancing on tables at Cipriani, a playlist was needed.  I found it much easier than expected to compile a list of songs that will have love as the furthest thing from your mind.
