Smart Is the New Pretty: Pitch In

Summer weekends are meant for bikinis, barbecues, and making new friends. Last weekend while we all chipped in to chop vegetables, pureé rotting mangoes, and grill up scallops (in our bikinis), I smiled to myself thinking how much fun I was having and how thankful I was to be surrounded by a group of lovely humans who were not only unafraid to get their hands dirty, but were also smart, funny, and interesting. (I was also thankful we actually made it safely out east after our non-teen driver texted away). Ugh. Who wants to be the pouty girl in the corner who doesn’t dare lift a finger so as to not chip her manicure? Not you. So, if you aren’t that awesome in the kitchen, volunteer to craft up a clever cocktail (have you heard of the “Phrostie”?) and be sure to have something worthwhile to talk about.

Why Did You Wear That: Weekend Warrior

As summer and steamy weather welcomes its way into our lives, so do summer Fridays and weekends away. A girlfriend and I chatted away while she packed for an exotic trip to Morocco and we laughed about how we were responsible packers and every man’s dream as we weren’t likely to pack every pair of shoes we own to match the six extra outfits that we brought “just in case.” Well, except for that one trip I took last summer wherein my entire bag broke due to sheer weight and I was berated for the rest of the week about it. view more for travel related information. That was not only irresponsible packing, but irresponsible dating. And as Hemingway once stated, “Never go on trips with anyone you do not love.” But that is neither here nor there because more likely than not we will all be escaping the city at some point and we must have the proper bag to pack along with some travel accessories to keep our jewelry and cosmetics in check.

Setting the Mood: Ready, Set, Summer.

The unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day, is upon us (the official start of summer is June 21) wherein I realize I have been like the grasshoppers rather than ants all spring. Meaning, while everyone packs up their cars, boards the Luxury Liner or (shudder) the LIRR, I’m left waving goodbye and cursing myself for not having thought ahead to make plans or get a boyfriend. It’s not all a loss though, I won’t suffer through the hell that is Hamptons traffic and there is a pool two blocks away that will be potentially slightly less crowded. And just because I may be catching my Vitamin D all by my lonesome doesn’t mean I have to look like it. Perhaps I could even fool myself into believing that I’m on my own very exclusive private island called Manhattan.

Setting the Mood: Getaway From Me

Memorial Day is fast approaching… so fast, in fact, that I didn’t even realize it was this weekend. Guess who doesn’t have plans (yet)? Who wants to pack me in his/her carry-on? Anyone?
