Why Did You Eat That: Not Just Another Meatball

By |July 19th, 2010|Los Angeles, Why Did You Eat That?|

C_LA2-2_1While in Los Angeles, I have been lucky enough to dine as some of best places the city has to offer. Last Thursday night, we went to Cecconi’s in West Hollywood. My girlfriends had been telling me this was one of their favorite places to eat in LA and upon arrival, I could see why. We passed through the terrace into the bar and main dining area. The room was aesthetically pleasing both with the decor as well as the clientele. I shouldn’t have been surprised seeing as Cecconi’s comes to you from the same folks as Soho House.

We started with the goat cheese and summer truffle pizza and when I tell you it’s to die for, you’re lucky I’m here to type this. This was no dainty pizza either. It could have easily fed four, but we went ahead and left room for our entrees. By far one of the most delicious white pizzas I have ever had.

C_LA6-2

For entrees, we ordered tuna tartare, which they bring to the table so that you can instruct them as to how you’d like it prepared. Also ordered was the halibut with lemon and chili rainbow chard. It isn’t often that a side is even better than the main, but this was one of those instances. I could have eaten an entire bowl of that chard.  The crab ravioli with saffron sauce did not disappoint either. I love any type of ravioli, but this one was especially good. The pasta was homemade and the crab was so moist that there was not even need for sauce.

We didn’t stick around for dessert, but I hear that the wood oven baked pear gratin with cinnamon ice cream is worth saving room for.

I can certainly say that this will be somewhere I return. Perhaps I will throw a little dinner party in the private Butterfly room. It’s not a cheap night out, but would certainly impress a date and is worth the splurge if you are looking an incredibly delicious meal.

Why Did You Wear That: Put Some Spring in Your Step

By |March 23rd, 2010|Why Did You Wear That?|

Finally the clouds have parted and Mother Nature is giving us a big sunshine filled kiss called spring. So what’s a girl to wear? We wondered the same thing as we attempted to get dressed for brunch this past weekend. We’ve stashed our winter coats and snow boots, but what shall we replace them with? Breaking down some of the big trends on the Spring 2010 runways:

Forward March– Looks like the military jacket will stick around another season. Swap one into your spring rotation for your updated warm weather outerwear.

Mixed Bag– A fun trend on this season is the bold mixing and matching of prints. Done head to toe in one pattern or mixing complimentary patterns will give you a head turning look.

Everything’s Coming Up Roses– Floral patterns were running rampant on the runways.  Whether Laura Ashley’esque or Painterly prints, it’s time to water your girly seed and sport some florals for spring.

Tit for Tat– Finally, something I’ve been doing for years is being validated on the runway. Sheer and sexy, models showed their underpinnings as much as their outerwear.

In the Nude– Neutrals were big on the runway. One in particular was nude. Get naked.

Peekaboo!– Another one of my favorite trends from the runways was the amount of cut out dresses being shown. They are very, very sexy in an unconventional way.

Ruffle Your Feathers– A fun and flirty alternative to fur? Feathers. Just don’t go overkill and end up looking like Big Bird. One feathered piece at a time.

A Shine of the Times– Recession? What recession? Shine and shimmer were all over the runways giving the luxe look. Shine isn’t just for evening. Dress up your everyday look with something shiny.

Speaking of shiny, get out your AmEx cards, girls. Adding a few key pieces can re-vamp what’s already going on in your closet.

Why Did You Wear That: All Aboard The Ugly Express. Choo! Choo!

Dear Juicy Track Suit Wearer,

2001 called, they’d like their velour leisure suit back.

xx,

All of us

Seriously, if I see one more chick in the airport… or just in general… wearing a “track suit” as appropriate casual wear, I’m gonna flip. Like Carrie Underwood I just found out my man’s cheating kind of flip. I understand that we all want to be comfy when traveling (especially since not all of us are flying first class and sometimes get stuck in a middle seat sandwiched between two big’uns). Being comfortable does NOT mean that you need to look like you crawled out of a Pound Puppy factory.  Your warm and fuzzy jumpsuit isn’t giving anyone besides you the “warm and fuzzies.” And besides, do you really want the word “Juicy” written across your ass? Nothing about that sounds flattering.

Catching my drift? Remember when Paris Hilton used to live in these things? Do you want to have anything in common with P. Hil (besides her checking account)? Didn’t think so. So, to avoid any second hand embarrassment on my part, let’s get you into something comfortable AND stylish.

Now is one of those times where leggings (not worn as pants) might come in handy.  Layer some leggings with a long tunic and/or yummy cashmere sweater (it gets chilly on those planes). Put on some flat boots (They don’t have to be flat, mind you, I’m just going for comfort. Bravo to you if you want to wear heels) and you’re good to go. Here’s a visual:

(sans lace gloves, obvi. Chanel bag optional).

A few more options if this is still not clear for you:

She’s even making “jeggings” look cool.

The trick is layering. It gives you versatility and you can take on or off depending on temperature and comfort. This is an extreme example, but you get the point (I hope).

I’m about to make this REALLY easy for you…
