Setting the Mood: Fifty Shades of White

By |December 3rd, 2012|Setting the Mood|

winter inspiration board It is upon us. The bone chilling, dark at 3pm, hibernation inducing months of winter. And while the delicately falling snowflakes sure do make for a beautiful backdrop (until the garbage trucks and foot traffic destroy the pristine piles of snow turning them into straight slush), it can be easy to want to just wrap yourself up in the all black uniform of winter. However, in the past couple of years and this one most noticeably, the once faux pas after Labor Day white accessories have become the “it” girl’s go to for breaking up a mostly dark ensemble. Do winter white from head to toe, or just accent your head and toes with white accessories. But remember, we’re channeling a soft snowflake, not the abominable snowman.

Friday Frocks: Garden Party

By |March 9th, 2012|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

alice in wonderland tea party

I don’t care what that little groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, said.  It feels like spring outside and I’m ready to throw one heck of a garden party.  Should your teacup be full of tea or champagne… it doesn’t really matter.  Find your most floral frock and accessorize with the most gigantic hat your pretty little head can hold up and a pair of chunky heels (so as to avoid sinking into the sod).  Grab your girlfriends for a day of gabbing and grubbing… just don’t fall down the rabbit hole.

Friday Frocks: Born To Be Wild

By |January 27th, 2012|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

leopardI look forward to Friday for oh so many reasons and I get the feeling I’m not alone.  One of those reasons is the prospect of letting my hair down, slipping out of something standard, and perhaps getting a little bit wild.  What better way to let people know you are serious about having fun than sporting a little something borrowed from our friends in the animal kingdom?

In case you haven’t noticed, leopard and animal prints aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.  In my opinion, leopard print is a new neutral.  If you tire of the standard “as seen in nature” prints, opt for a recolored print.

1. Torn by Ronny Kobo Jill Lace Leopard Combo Dress, $232, 2. Vix Mali Snake Print Jersey Mini Dress, $125, 3. Rachel Pally Peg Dress, $109.99, 4. French Connection Animal Magic Dress, $198, 5. Parker Open Shoulder Dress, $253, 6. Parker Strapless Pleated Leopard Dress, $253, 7. Express Leopard Burnout Elastic Waist Dress, $108, 8. Alloy Cara Leopard Dress, $29.99, 9. Milly Stephanie Ruffled Dress, $335, 10. Diane von Furstenberg Krystle Maxi Dress, $265

Grrr… baby, very grrr.

Friday Frocks: Life’s a Beach

By |January 13th, 2012|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

Can you pass me the SPF, please?  Oh… right.  It’s snowing here.  That means a couple of things.  1. It’s time for me to go home (to California).  2. It’s also time to transport myself (mentally) to a place with warm breezes, cool cocktails, and soft white sand.  How does one do that you ask?  Well, first of all, whip yourself up a strawberry daiquiri, put on some Bob Marley, and then peruse these vacation worthy frocks.  After you’ve convinced yourself you’re somewhere warm, head over to Jet Setter and start booking your next exotic getaway.

1. Sass & Bide Pick N’ Mix Embroidered Strapless Dress, $795, 2. Zimmermann Contrast Halter Dress, $277.20, 3. Issa Short Kimono Dress, $595, 4. Elizabeth and James Paloma Dress, $345, 5. Mara Hoffman King Tut Maxi Dress, $238, 6. M by Missoni Black and Magenta Multicolor Sleeveless Dress, $665, 7. Milly Gustavia Dip Dyed Maxi Dress, $595, 8. Naven Bombshell Dress with Shirring, $345, 9. Halston Heritage Halter Gown, $645, 10. French Connection Multi Jag Stripe Dress, $128

Bon voyage.
