Why Did You Wear That: Who Wears Short Shorts?

nair commercial

When you think of shorts, you probably automatically envision a casual day running errands or just hanging out in the backyard (ha, backyard).  Rarely, would you think of shorts as formal, but as of late, shorts have taken a turn towards formal.  Celebrities have opted for shorts on the red carpet and have dressed up even their casual cut offs with feminine blouses.  So, next time you’re staring into the depths of your closet trying to figure out what exactly to wear, don’t forget about your abbreviated pants (also known as shorts).  Dressed up with heels and a sexy blouse, you have another option for a warm weather evening look that is anything but expected.

Beauty Buzz: Yes… They’re Real
Written by: WhyDid | Beauty Buzz

Now I remember why I don’t turn on the TV before I’ve done all my writing, editing, and all around important things.  Lifetime Movies.  How is one supposed to get anything done when 15 and Pregnant (starring a youthful Kirsten Dunst) is on?  It’s like a black hole.  You just get sucked in and then there’s no stopping it.  One twisted movie after the next.  Before you know it, it’s 5pm and you’re still in your jammies and they’re may be an entire bag of tortilla chips missing.  Well, as you know (or maybe you don’t… in which case you’re missing out), a good Lifetime Movie will get even the staunchest soul working those tear ducts.  So, you’re going to need some expensive mascara to cry off.  That’s where my latest beauty find comes in.

Remember when I tried out Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Flared Mascara?  Yeah, not so good.  Well, I may have stumbled upon the Holy Grail of mascaras… maybe.  I had heard a few people going on and on about  Benefit They’re Real Mascara.  Now, we all know how deep my love runs for Benefit Benetint… if I can expand on this love fest, game on.  Below, check out my trial of  Benefit They’re Real Mascara.

Now, when I tested out Benefit They’re Real Mascara the first time, I wasn’t sold.  The texture isn’t so good the first couple of applications.  I also didn’t realize it was making such a big difference until I tried it up against a fan favorite, Christian Dior Diorshow Extase (I’m wearing Benefit They’re Real on the left and Diorshow on the right).  Whoa!  This mascara is no joke.  You may not be able to tell in these photos, but the difference is substantial.

Final verdict?  Basically, this mascara is telling false eyelashes to suck it.  You will not need them once you get the hang of this high impact, super sexy mascara.

Oh… but we’re not done here.  Today’s a twofer.  Because this mascara is so dramtic, you’re going to need a good makeup remover to get it off.  Nope, not even a Lifetime Movie marathon or your average cleanser is going to get rid of this stuff.  Behold NARS Makeup Cleansing Oil.  This magic potion will not only banish your mascara, it will get rid of any and all traces of makeup.  I have very sensitive eyeballs, and this doesn’t hurt or irritate my peepers a bit.  It also won’t leave you shiny or greasy.  Might I add the crowning glory?  Looks great on your vanity.  I call that a win, win, win… and who doesn’t like to win?  Not me.

Now back to She Woke Up Pregnant.

Guest Post: Look to the Stars
Written by: WhyDid | Guest Blogger

Celebrities are always a step ahead of the game when it comes to hairstyles and fashion, thanks to free “samples” from designers, so it makes sense to look to those in the spotlight for up and coming trends.  Whether you’re looking for the perfect outfit for New Year’s Eve or just adding a few items to your wardrobe, take a look at these five trends celebs have been seen sporting lately.

1. Jewel Tones

Rich, vibrant, saturated colors have been seen on everything lately – from eyelids  to clothing, and even nail polish.  Need a little inspiration?  Browse through your grandma’s jewelry collection and draw ideas from your favorite pieces.  Does the richness of the ruby catch your attention?  Or perhaps the deep, dark shine of the sapphire?  Find the color that speaks to you and make a bold statement by incorporating it into your apparel.

Jewel-toned eye makeup is making a major comeback as well.  The bold look adds drama to the eye, with a smoky application of the rich, pigmented colors.  Emerald green specifically, has been touted as the season’s “it” eye accent color.  Pair it with a dark crimson lip color and you’ll be the hit of your next holiday party.

2. Animal Prints

Though animal print may be considered “tacky” to some, it’s back with a vengeance.  Leopard print is particularly hot and can be found on anything from apparel, to tights, and even shoes. Celebrities have recently been seen wearing the stylish prints on the red carpet, at parties, and even in their casual everyday wear.  Adding a pop of animal print does wonders for an otherwise drab outfit. Just make sure to use animal print responsibly – overdoing it can take you from fashionista to fashion disaster very quickly.

3. Autumnal Tones

Earthy colors are on the rise this season, inspired by the warm, spicy palette of fall.  Mustard yellow is a current favorite, and celebrities are particularly loving cardigans and other knits in the vintage hue.  Adding a scarf or handbag in the color will instantly put you at the top of the trends.  Embrace the retro vibe the deep shade of yellow brings by trying pin curls on your hair or wearing red lipstick on your pout.  Spicy shades of red, sunset orange, cinnamon, and yellow-greens are all excellent choices.

4. Faux Fur

That’s right, fur is back, but not in the head-to-toe, Cruella DeVille sort of way.  Instead, it’s appearing on vests, coat collars, gloves, and hats.  Fur adds an air of cold-weather charm, while keeping the iconic look of wealth.  Pair a furry accessory with jeans and a simple tee to create an appealing mixture of retro and glam.

5. Fair Isle

This traditional knit stems from a small island north of Scotland.  Once again the trend is nothing new, but rather a resurgence of an age old fashion. We’ve been seeing this type of sweater in ski shops and woodsy towns for years, but only recently did it make its way mainstream. Try layering the rustic sweater over a collared dress shirt. The juxtaposition of contrasting styles works together to create a high-fashion ensemble.  The look works for males, females, children, and even the occasional pooch. Wear this Scandinavian-style sweater with some lace-up snow boots to complete the look.

Follow this five simple trends and you’ll be looking like a star in no time.

Lisa

Look for Less: Leather and Legs

A way to bring a little edge to any outfit is by adding a bit of leather.  If a leather jacket feels too predictable and leather pants just really aren’t going to happen, a leather skirt may be a great way to incorporate this trend.  Whether you winterize your look with a cozy sweater and opaque tights or sport a bare leg and sky high heels, be sure to mix in a more modest top.  You don’t want to look like a lady who belongs on a corner of Hollywood Boulevard.  Check out these three leather looks worn by some fresh faced celebrities:

1. Juicy Couture Candy Pink Cotton Lace Top, $110, 2. Andrew Marc Tristina Leather Skirt, $350, 3. Emitations Flora’s Sterling Silver Heart Charm Bracelet, $75, 4. Report Stamos Patent Pumps, $56.99

1.  By Malene Birger Luvina Lace Blouse, $224, 2. Naven Biker Skirt, $154, 3. Urban Outfitters Sheer Tights, $12, 4. White House Black Market Rosette Clutch, $34, 5. TopShop Galleria Patent Mary Janes, $92

1. Qi Cashmere Long Time Ruched Turtleneck, $147, 2. Schumacher Faux Leather Skirt, $319, 3. Tarte LipSurgence in Charmed, $24, 4. Mod Cloth Tights for Every Occasion, $14.99, 5. Frye Harlow Oxford Bootie, $197.95

Monday Mashup: MET Madness

The gorgeous and well groomed came out to strut their stuff down the red carpet for the MET Ball this evening.  Where most red carpets are a bit of a bore, the Costume Gala always proves to be  more interesting seeing as it is thrown by the fashion elite (you don’t see Anna Wintour at the Grammy’s).  Each year, the gala is themed and this year was “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.”  Talk about one hell of a week for McQueen creative director, Sarah Burton.  A royal wedding followed by the year’s biggest fashion fete.

Above Tory Burch and Taylor Swift (in J. Mendel) slipped into their red carpet best and while both look absolutely beautiful (thanks for ditching that side swept ‘do, Taylor!) they look uncomfortably similar.  These dresses look like they could have been cut from the same cloth (oh yes, pun intended).

Tory and Taylor weren’t the only lookalikes this evening.  Quite a few starlets, and style icons were seen wearing similar get ups.

Ginnifer Goodwin in custom Top Shop, Barbara Walters

Too easy.

Rosie Huntington Whiteley in Burberry, Brooklyn Decker in Michael Kors

Two blonde supermodels, one color. I love Rosie Huntington Whitely.  She’s absolutely beautiful and I do love Brooklyn’s dress.  I just wish they could have swapped outfits.

Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney, Jessica Alba in Ralph Lauren Collection

No, this is not season 4 of Teen Mom Goes to Prom.  These are just two very pregnant actresses dressed in prom gowns for the gala.

Dakota Fanning in Valentino, Fergie in Marchesa

Speaking of teens… why is Fergie dressed in the same outfit as seventeen year old Dakota Fanning (who is very much age appropriately dressed)?

Sarah Jessica Parker in Alexander McQueen, Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera, Gwyneth Paltrow in Stella McCartney

Seems that slinky metallics were all the rage for the over 40 set.  I can’t help but think these dresses look awfully similar to Anne Hathaway at the Golden Globes

Freida Pinto in Chanel, Janelle Monae, Anna Dello Russo in Alexander McQueen and egg hat

Three perfect examples of why women should stick to womenswear and stay away from menswear.

Chrissy Teigen in Chris March, Beyonce in Emilio Pucci, Lucy Liu in Vionnet, Christina Hendricks in Carolina Herrera, Demi Moore in Prabal Gurung, Kirsten Dunst in Chanel

These six sexy black widows actually all ended up on my worst dressed list… just mere coincidence that they’re all in black.  Preparing for their fashion funeral perhaps?

Gisele Bunchden in Alexander McQueen, Dianna Agron in Michael Kors, Saorise Ronan in Rodarte, Kristen Stewart in Proenza Schouler, Emily Browning in Marc Jacobs

I’ve organized these ladies in red from “red hot” to “red not even kind of a little bit. uh uh.”

Diane Kruger in Jason Wu, Christina Ricci in Zac Posen, Bar Rafaeli, Ashley Greene in Donna Karan, Lily Aldridge in Ralph Lauren Collection, Leelee Sobieski in Vionnet

These six stunners got their red carpet looks right.  They are each wearing one of the above trends or themes that were so popular at this year’s MET, but they got it right rather than oh so wrong. These beauties were able to separate themselves from the savages.
