Why Did You Wear That: Sheer Genius

By |April 12th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

This spring it’s okay to let it all hang out.  What I mean is that the amount of sheer fabrics on the runway was enough to make Madonna blush.  Couple that with the whole “underwear as outerwear” trend and you’re in for a serious game of peek-a-boo –and I’m not talking the version you play with your niece.

While this trend may seem a bit risque and a little overwhelming, it doesn’t have to be.  Adding a little sheer fabric to your outfit is a great way to show skin in an unexpected manner.  It’s sexy without being totally obvious.  Just make sure to apply this trend in small doses.  And NEVER wear a sheer bottom unless, of course, you’re frolicking on the beaches of St. Tropez.  (I know that seems self explanatory, but one can never be too careful).

I’ve recreated one of my favorite outfits almost to a T (the shirt is a different color, multiply my A&A bangles by about 5 and add 1) for an easy and appropriate option – and so you can look just like me:

1. Patterson J. Kincaid Harlow Long Sleeve Blouse, $98, 2. Free People Lace Trim Bandeau, $28, 3. 7 For All Mankind Gwenevere Super Skinny in Double Knit, $169, 4. Alex and Ani Love Charm Bracelet Set, $78.50, 5. Jimmy Choo Madame Metallic Leather Sandals, $725

This outfit is also great for a “day to night” transition.  Layer a scarf and either a waterfall cardigan or boyfriend blazer for day and then remove scarf and outerwear to party all night.  Don’t forget to revisit my sheer “Do’s and Don’ts.”

Peek-a-boo!

Why Did You Wear That: Put Some Spring in Your Step

By |April 5th, 2011|Why Did You Wear That?|

Speaking of putting your foot in your mouth… what’s better than salivating over strappy spring footwear?  While the warm weather is great… blah, blah, blah… the best part of spring is investing in fabulous new shoes and heading in for an intensive pedicure (two of my greatest pleasures in life).  I always buy a couple pairs of shoes that I wear the crap out of all spring/summer long.  Why not take a gander at these beauties and start thinking about what shoes you will fill your closet with:

1. Emilio Pucci Suede Multi-Strap Platform Sandals, $890, 2. Alexandre Birman Ankle-Wrap Canvas Sandals, $475, 3. Theodora and Callum Biarritz Printed Linen Wedge Sandals, $395,  4. Miu Miu Canvas Platform Mules, $445, 5. Christopher Kane Two Tone Leather Platform Sandals, $650, 6. Jimmy Choo Vivienne Mixed Media Platform Sandals, $1,695, 7. Yves Saint Laurent Venice Leather Sculpted Wedge Sandals, $1,195, 8. Miu Miu Wooden Block Heel Sandals, $450, 9. Miu Miu Suede Multi-Strap Sandals, $595, 10. Brian Atwood Claudette Studded Suede Sandals, $775

Toodles, toots.

Girl Crush: Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

By |March 23rd, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

My what big eyes you have… I’ve loved Amanda Seyfried since she played the dopey Karen Smith in Mean Girls alongside Lady Lohan, herself.  So what a perfect choice she was for the storybook turned mega movie, Red Riding Hood, released earlier this month.  With classic fairytale features, they couldn’t have cast a better beauty for little Ms. Hood.

It doesn’t take much for Amanda to look lovely.  With gigantic green eyes, perfectly porcelain skin, and hair that dreams were made of, it would really be hard for this stunning starlet to look bad.  Her red carpet style is simple, understated, and very sexy.  She knows her legs are her best feature and she isn’t afraid to show them off (smart girl).  During her downtime, Ms. Seyfried can be spotted around town with dog, Finn and her signature sunglasses.  Her style is always effortlessly chic.

1. American Apparel The Wool Cape, $170, 2. Ray-Ban XL Wayfarer, $145, 3. DOMA Detachable Hood Leather Jacket, $598, 4. Brian Atwood Lana Patent Peep Toe Pumps, $525, 5. Frederic Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream, $32, 6. Banana Republic Coy Combat Boot, $119.99, 7. Ralph Lauren Collection Ruffle Washed Linen Dress, $1,498, 8. Lanvin Plisse Dress, $1,975, 9. Benefit Dandelion, $28

…The better to see you with, my dear.

Why Did You Wear That: This Week’s Top 5 Looks

By |December 4th, 2010|Celebrity Style|

I struggled a bit this week trying to round up the best of the best in Hollywood. Probably has a lot to do with the overwhelming trend of black lace LBD’s. Everyone from Taylor Swift to Kylie Minogue was spotted in one. So, I finally found five lovely ladies deserving of this week’s best dressed list.

  1. Carrie Underwood in Jenny Packham for the CMA Artists of the Year Celebration. I wasn’t surprised I liked this look as soon as I saw it was Jenny Packham.
  2. Blake Lively at Footwear News Achievement Awards wearing Prabal Gurung and Christian Louboutin shoes (of course). Does she ever look bad?
  3. Reese Witherspoon in a Dolce & Gabbana dress and Jimmy Choo shoes while revealing her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Looking as American as apple pie.
  4. Fergie wearing a hot pink D&G blazer and Helmut Lang leather pants at the launch of Avon Voices.  Hey, at least her outfit is better behaved than her husband…
  5. Most improved award goes to Katy Perry wearing Georges Chakra with Brian Atwood heels at the Grammy Nominations Concert.  Yay! Katie is wearing her grown up outfit!
