Why Did You Wear That: Drab to Fab

By |December 9th, 2011|Why Did You Wear That?|

Believe it or not some people don’t like to wear sequin covered disco ball-esque dresses.  I know.  I could hardly wrap my head around it either.  I’m somewhat of a magpie and I will use any and all excuses to deck myself, my home, my dog out in anything shiny.  Whether it be a shimmering chandelier or sparkly mini, I’m on it.  However, in the off chance that you don’t love a sparkly get up as much as me (or the rest of the world), there are some other options to bring a little bling to your standard LBD.  It can be as subtle as a glittery manicure or as bold as bejeweled headband.  Adding just a hint of shine will take you from wet blanket to woohoo!

1.  Eugenia Kim Serena Headband, $74.99, 2. Bobbi Brown Metallic Long-Wear Cream Shadow, $22, 3. Black Halo Donna Halter Mini Dress, $330, 4. Fragments for Neiman Marcus Multi Crystal Bracelet, $275, 5. J. Crew Classic Pave Link Bracelet, $118, 6. Essie Nail Polish (Set in Stones), $8, 7. Deborah Lippmann Glitter Nail Polish (Boom Boom Pow), $20, 8. Jimmy Choo Glitter Cap Toe Ballerina Flats, $345, 9. J. Crew Darby Glitter Loafers, $175, 10. Loeffler Randall Zuri Pumps, $359.99, 11. B Brian Atwood Liese Metallic Peep Toe Ankle Boots, $350, 12.  Kenneth Jay Lane Large Crystal Ring, $88, 13. Kate Spade All Wrapped Up Pave Ring, $148, 14. See by Chloe Cherry Feather Mini Cross Body Bag, $495, 15. Top Shop Gold Sequin Animal Cross Body Bag, $50, 16.  Erickson Beamon Smoke and Mirrors Earrings, $315, 17. Oscar de la Renta Beaded Tassel Earrings, $440

And because I must:  I do not condone wearing more than… let’s see three of these items at once.  Let’s have fun without shooting anyone’s eye out.

Gift Guide: Le Geek C’est Chic

By |November 30th, 2011|Gift Guide|

If you can’t beat em… join em.  Since, we’re clearly overly socialized and technology is only going to get more intense from here, might as well look good while we’re surfing the web/catching up on reading/chatting with friends/etc.  You know how I know tech is a big deal?  Go to one of your favorite fashion shopping sites… I’m willing to bet they now have a tab under accessories that says, “Tech Accessories.”  I would, however, like to point out that there are few and far between (if any) accessories for the Blackberry.  Coincidence?  … Anyway, a gift that is certain to delight even your most tech savvy friends is something to outfit her favorite electronic device.  Since it will probably spend more time on the table than hidden in the depths of her bag, it’s going to need to look good too.

1. Jagger Edge The Montana Studded iPhone Case, $99, 2. Jimmy Choo Glitter iPad Case, $495, 3. Juicy Couture Synched to the Stars Ear Buds, $47, 4. Henri Bendel Snake iPhone Cover, $68, 5. Why Did You Wear That: Soak It In

By |August 25th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

A month or so ago, I had the pleasure of staying at the Napa River Inn and while the entire place was quite magical, one of my favorite parts was the beautiful claw foot bathtub. To be honest, the only thing better than soaking all your troubles away in a beautiful big tub with fizzy bath salts is doing so with a big fizzy glass of sparkling wine. While I couldn’t document said activities on WhyDid without getting a stern email from my father, I couldn’t pass up the chance to snap some photos of this beautiful (and my dream) bathroom.

Lace pants and a silky top were perfectly sexy and sophisticated for a romantic Saturday night dinner in Napa (not so much for a bath). Accessorized with shiny metallic sandals and my go to bangles for just the right amount of sparkle.

1. Leyendecker Chopper Blouse, $231, 2. Love Moschino Black Cropped Lace Trousers, $376.20, 3. MAC Lipstick in Russian Red, $14.50, 4. Alex & Ani Set of 7 Gold Dimpled Bangles, $74.99, 5. Jimmy Choo Buzz Platform Sandals, $628

That’s the only time Smitty has been anxious to hop in the tub, FYI.

Why Did You Eat That: Mamacita

By |August 25th, 2011|San Francisco (The Bay), Why Did You Eat That?|

I know I give San Francisco a bad rap, but I guess it’s not all bad. The do have delightful Mexican food, afterall (and I love some good Mexican food). A friend suggested we try out Mamacita in the Marina, so we obliged and were happy we did so. The place is a bit crowded on a weekend and you will probably have to wait if you don’t have a reservation. So, you’re probably going to want to go ahead and get the party started with a pitcher of pomegranate margaritas (made with pomegranate infused tequila) and a bit of the guacamole while you wait for a table. I’ve had a lot of good guacamole in my day, but never have I had any so creamy. I would love to know what they put in there to get that smooth consistency. So far, so good.

We actually didn’t have to wait as long as we’d thought and started things off with Tamales de Elote (sweet corn tamales) and Crudo de Atun (tuna tartar). Both were out. of. this. world. After gorging ourselves on appetizers , we each opted to try a different type of taco- Chuleta de Borrego (lamb), Callos de Mula (scallops), and Carnitas Cerditas (pulled pork). I would say I was the “loser” of the bunch with the pork tacos. They weren’t awful, but compared to the rest, they fell a bit flat. The word that kept coming up when testing out the other tacos was “smooth.” We were so happy with our meals that we had no room for dessert and I would absolutely head back here for my next taco fix.

So what does one wear when munching on Mexican in the Marina? This area is a bit “preppy” or maybe even “yuppy” so, most of the patrons were pretty conservatively dressed. But when’s the last time you felt the need to fit in? Keep it casual with a bit of a twist with a silky blouse, skinny jeans, and funky accessories. You’ll stand out without looking like a total outcast.

1. Ya Ya Fisher Nom De Plume Blouse, $69, 2. 7 For All Mankind Gwenevere Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans, $170, 3. Jimmy Choo Peep Toe Patent Platform Pump, $695, 4. House of Harlow Val Studded Clutch, $195, 5. Kendra Scott Nasha Necklace, $145

Bonita mamacita!
