Friday Frocks: Jump At the Chance

Technically not a frocks… because, well, they’re not dresses, jumpsuits are panted versions of the maxi dress. A jumpsuit can be both casual and comfortable as well as silky and sleek. Whether you opt for uptown or down, just fair warning: it’s going to be a struggle in the bathroom. Allow for extra time and be prepared for angry, full bladdered women to anxiously sigh while repeatedly interrupting your bathroom break with angry knocks as you try to free yourself from straps, belts, and other accoutrements. That aside, jumpsuits are kind of like wearing very stylish onesie pajamas out in public without attracting public scrutiny, plus you don’t need to bother shaving. Friday Frocks: The Perfect Coverup

Almost as important as that bikini is how you choose to transport yourself from Point A to your final destination. The coverup should be chicer than throwing on a pair of Soffe shorts and tank. Put a little pride in your poolside presence by picking out a coverup that could easily be mistaken for a frock. In my experience, poolside rose often leads to post beach cocktails and oysters and sometimes even a little bit of table dancing… but maybe that’s just me. Anyway, just make sure your coverup continues to be sexy, not soggy after a long day of fun on in the sun.

Since we’ve been on the topic… The last thing I feel like doing when I have a “friend in town” is squeezing myself into a dress tight enough to cut off all blood circulation and then shoving my poor undeserving toes into shoes that could serve as a form of ancient torture. Whether you’re feeling the bloat like me or you just want to indulge in dessert at dinner, the babydoll dress is the answer to all of our problems. Flowy and romantic, it is feminine enough not to be frumpy. While you wont’ be able to see the outline of your organs, you’ll still look pretty. Why Did You Wear That: Shiver Me Timbers

This past weekend I had the pleasure of going to see the fourth installment of a movie that I’d never seen the first three installments of- The Pirates of the Caribbean. (This is what love does to you – you’ve been warned). Anyway, while I sat in the theater trying not to vomit from my 3-D induced headache, I decided to try and make rum punch out of rotten coconuts. While the plot could have (and very well may have) been written by a fifth grader and mermaids were ruined for me forever, I couldn’t help but be inspired by the costumes, accessories, and hair. There’s a reason pirates are seen as sexy afterall. Head scarves, Flowing blouses, intricate embroidery, and enough accessories to sink a ship complete a scoundrel’s wardrobe.

By the way: five things pirates do better than you:

Accessorize
Get booty
Smokey eye
Sword fight
Hide libations in their wooden limbs.
