Would You Wednesday: Is White Alright?

By |August 25th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

Several brides have recently decked their wedding parties out in white (Kate, Kate, Kim). I’ve been a fan of this look for quite some time, but it seems to be shocking to some, however, this is nothing new in British culture. It is said that traditionally, the bridesmaids and other attendants wore white so as to “confuse” and ward off evil spirits. Alright, well, that’s a little ridiculous, but there’s no denying it– an all white wedding party looks incredibly fresh and chic. So what about your wedding guests?

When the first wedding photos from Kim’s wedding emerged, there was much buzz regarding Lindsay Lohan in a sexy white Jenny Packham gown. I thought to myself, “Go figure. It’s Lindsay Lohan.” Thankfully, it was soon released that said wedding had a “black and white” dress code, so Lindsay wasn’t being her typically sloppy self. Phew! There’s one thing Kim K and I can agree on. I love a good dress code. That’s all we’ve got though. Anyway, what I am really wondering about is whether or not you think wearing white to a wedding other than your own is a major fashion faux pas. Thoughts?

Here comes the bridesmaid!

Setting the Mood: California Dreaming

By |July 11th, 2011|Setting the Mood|

Coming from New York, Los Angeles never really grew on me.  Tried as I did, I just couldn’t get into it.  Not even the perfectly placed palm trees or toned tanned skin could sway me.  I just didn’t jive with the City of Angels.

That is, until I moved up the coast to San Francisco.  Isn’t it funny how one thing can make you appreciate another?  Needless to say, after yet another freezing cold (not kidding- it’s 40 something degrees today) grey Monday, I can’t help but yearn for sunshine and convertibles.  I would even tolerate the bebe clad girls of Hollywood and Affliction t-shirted douchebags of yore for just one sun filled afternoon and a reason to slip on my Oliver Peoples.

But alas, I must endure the city by the bay for just a little while longer…

SAG 2011: Ladies Brought Their A-Game

By |January 31st, 2011|Red Carpet Recap|

Last night the brightest and most beautiful joined together to celebrate the 2011 Screen Actor’s Guild Awards.  I was tuned in and ready to scream at my TV screen as I watched the red carpet arrivals, but surprisingly, there was not much to be angry about (um, except for you Jane Lynch… wtf?).  All I can conclude from this is that these sexy starlets must be reading WhyDid.

Great Whites:

Let me be perfectly clear… I am not, by any means, saying that I love all of these dresses. I am merely pointing out how dead on I was with white being the new black.  While Winona looks like a crazy runaway bride, Natalie was absolutely breathtaking (not to mention she finally heeded my advice about embracing her baby bump).  The ladies in white looked like real life angels on the red carpet.

Hote Hues:

Nothing makes me happier than seeing young hot Hollywood embracing color.   From juicy tangerine shades, to shocking pinks, to spring’s hottest stripes, these ladies nailed it.  They took these saturated shades on with a vengeance.

Under the Sea:

From deep navy to patterned hues of green and blue, these ladies put the Little Mermaid to shame.  Each dress encompassed a different feeling, but all embraced beautiful ocean shades and flattered the ladies who dared to wear them.

Subtle Shades:

If you know anything about WhyDid, you know that I love shades that are slightly off white– bonus if they include a bit of shimmer.  Each of these lovely ladies embraced a bit of both.  I can’t help but wonder if the girls of Glee didn’t plan to look equally as stunning in these subtle hues.

While I was looking forward to some red carpet calamities, I’m now actually looking forward to the red carpet of the Academy Awards.

Monday Mashup: Red Carpet Repeat

By |January 17th, 2011|Monday Mashup|

So, before I announce who I found fantastic and who made me cry “foul!”, I decided to recap the rest of the red carpet from the Golden Globes.  Um… I can’t help but notice… there were a lot of duplications in the wardrobe department.  Whoops! Perhaps the stylists in Hollywood need to communicate more.  Having a twin on the red carpet might be every starlet’s worst nightmare, but seeing double gives us much more to compare come Monday.  While I have my own opinions on who rocked the look best, I’m going to go ahead and let you- my usually fashionably elite- readers decide. Now, behold the beauties that were the Golden Globes:

A Case of the Ex:

Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham vs. Scarlett Johansson in Elie Saab

Moody Nudes:

Carrie Underwood in Badgley Mischka vs. Dianna Agron in J. Mendel

Pretty in Pink:

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta vs. Megan Fox in Armani Prive

Is White Right?

Jennifer Love Hewitt in Romona Keveza vs. Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

Mean Green:

Angelina Jolie in Versace vs. Mila Kunis in Vera Wang

Well Red:

January Jones in Versace vs. Sofia Vegara in Vera Wang

It’s a Sherbert:

Emma Stone in Calvin Klein Collection vs. Claire Danes also in Calvin Klein Collection

Blue for You:

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier vs. Jenna Ushkowitz in Rebecca Taylor vs. Amy Adams in Marchesa

Why Did You Wear That: This Week’s Top 5 Looks

By |December 4th, 2010|Celebrity Style|

I struggled a bit this week trying to round up the best of the best in Hollywood. Probably has a lot to do with the overwhelming trend of black lace LBD’s. Everyone from Taylor Swift to Kylie Minogue was spotted in one. So, I finally found five lovely ladies deserving of this week’s best dressed list.

  1. Carrie Underwood in Jenny Packham for the CMA Artists of the Year Celebration. I wasn’t surprised I liked this look as soon as I saw it was Jenny Packham.
  2. Blake Lively at Footwear News Achievement Awards wearing Prabal Gurung and Christian Louboutin shoes (of course). Does she ever look bad?
  3. Reese Witherspoon in a Dolce & Gabbana dress and Jimmy Choo shoes while revealing her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Looking as American as apple pie.
  4. Fergie wearing a hot pink D&G blazer and Helmut Lang leather pants at the launch of Avon Voices.  Hey, at least her outfit is better behaved than her husband…
  5. Most improved award goes to Katy Perry wearing Georges Chakra with Brian Atwood heels at the Grammy Nominations Concert.  Yay! Katie is wearing her grown up outfit!
