Beauty Buzz: Star Spangled Beauty

By |July 2nd, 2013|Beauty Buzz|

american flag makeupAlright, so you can’t even begin to stomach strapping on a star studded tank top or holiday color coordinated outfit.  That’s fine.  Just don’t be a totally Sally Suckpants refusing to play along whatsoever.  Incorporate a little bit of your American pride this Fourth of July by wearing the colors of our flag on your face (and nails).  Navy liner rimming your lids, cherry red lips, and a slick white manicure will have people believing Lenny Kravitz wrote American Woman for you- and why shouldn’t they?

Setting the Mood: God Bless…

By |July 1st, 2013|Setting the Mood|

fourth of july fashionAt times I may complain that ol’ US of A has gone down the sh…. I feel blessed to live in a country where what I say, do, wear, and think can’t really be censored… well, for the meantime, at least.  I believe Congress is working on that.  Sure there are Kardashians and fast food chains, but for the most part, the United States of America is what so many people dream of, work for, and aspire to be.  Perhaps we should remember where we came from and attempt to become model citizens of the great states of America…again.  Let’s make Abe and George proud.  Bake that apple pie, put on your best red, white, and blue, and celebrate… we’re Americans, ya’ll.

Setting the Mood: There Will Be Fireworks

By |July 2nd, 2012|Setting the Mood|

fireworks flags happy 4thEver pick up the newspaper…. who am I kidding, who reads newspapers.  Ever look at your Twitter newsfeed and after scanning the headlines think to yourself, “Dang it, I’m pretty psyched to be an American.”?  Yeah, I think that sometimes too.  Other times, I’m ready to flee the country, but today isn’t going to be one of those days.  Today we are going to celebrate and channel all that is fabulous about the good ol’ U S of A… and find ways to wear it.  That’s right, we are doing all things stars, stripes, blue, red, and white.

celebrities wearing flagsBack around Memorial Day, the trend of sporting patriotic style made its debut and seems that since then, being proud to be an American only became that much more on trend.  Well, as it turns out, this week we commemorate our great country’s independence and I really can’t think of a better time to get your patriotism on.

Why Did You Eat That: Accessorize Your Meal

By |July 4th, 2011|Recipes, Why Did You Eat That?|

We get it. The Fourth of July is all about the grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, but just like any good outfit, your plate also needs accessories.  Enter the party dip and holiday cocktail.

A real crowd pleaser, queso, is sure to be a hit (except for all your lactose intolerant pals). For some reason it’s impossibly difficult to find any decent queso in CA (ironic?).  So, I took matters into my own hands and started making it at home.

I shouldn’t really have to explain this… but I will.

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz. Velveeta cheese (sliced into 1 inch cubes)
  • 1 can (10 oz) of Rotel

Directions:

  • Melt cheese and Rotel in a pot. Serve with tortilla chips.

Finally, something we can thank Texas for.

I love when I receive emails like this (from my dear friend, Dev):

Watermelon Martinis

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups watermelon cubes (rind and seeds removed- duh)
  • 3/4 cup lemon vodka……  this is does NOT sound like enough….
  • 6 Tbsp lime juice
  • 3 Tbsp cointreau or Triple Sec
  • 3 Tbsp sugar

Directions:

  1. Blend together with approximately 3-6 ice cubes. Blend until slushy…

or perhaps you would just like to blend the watermelon up and mix in the ingredients for a martini.

“Id like to invite you to consider” whipping these gems up for the July 4th weekend. I feel they would be a hit any party.

Not only are these drinks gems, but so is dear, sweet Dev for sending this recipe.

Hope you have a happy, fully accessorized, Fourth of July.
